Hi everyone, Henry! Quick Update on Community Posts 📢
I'll be continuing posting here for major announcements and big news, but YouTube Community Posts don't integrate with any social media management tools (not even Zapier, sad 😔), which makes daily updates here pretty manual and inconsistent.
For more frequent updates and frequent news, follow us on:
🐘 Mastodon: social.lol/@techlore
🦋 Bluesky: bsky.app/profile/techlore.tech
🐦 Twitter/X: twitter.com/techloreinc

You'll still see important updates here, just being transparent about why we'll be more active elsewhere for day-to-day stuff. Thanks for understanding! 🙏

Logitech is bricking $100 smart home buttons on October 15th, turning devices into e-waste. Your "compensation" for this planned obsolescence? A 15% off coupon (with exclusions) that expires in 6 months.
LESSONS FOR EVERYONE:
✅ Buy smart devices that work locally
✅ Avoid cloud-only products from companies with short attention spans
✅ Demand open standards and local control
✅ Vote with your wallet - don't reward this
Reminder: Logitech also killed Harmony remotes in 2021.

VICTORY: Synology just backed down on their restrictive drive policy!
After massive community backlash, Synology will now allow non-verified third-party drives on 2025 Plus, Value, and J-series NAS models with DSM 7.3. Some backstory: Synology wanted enterprise margins on prosumer gear, so they locked NAS devices to "validated" drives and spammed DANGER warnings if you used standard drives.
But there's a catch: This only affects NEW 2025 models. Older devices are still locked down, and enterprise xs+ models keep the restrictions.
Keep that energy. Consumer pressure works 🔥

Texas is trying to destroy app privacy for everyone. Starting 2026: Texas law requires age verification for all app downloads. Want to check the weather? Hand over "sensitive, personally identifiable information."
➡️ Apple: "We are concerned that SB2420 impacts the privacy of users by requiring the collection of sensitive, personally identifiable information to download any app, even if a user simply wants to check the weather or sports scores."
➡️ Google: "A weather app doesn't need to know if a user is a kid."
What you can do:
✅ Use a VPN to appear outside these states
✅ Contact your reps!!
✅ Support orgs fighting these laws (EFF, ACLU)
✅ Understand: "protecting kids" is often code for mass surveillance
✅ Push both Apple & Google to allow/keep 3rd-party app installations!

Microsoft is at it AGAIN, removing more workarounds that let you install Windows 11 without a Microsoft account. The latest W11 test build kills the "start ms-cxh:localonly" command that users discovered after MS blocked "bypassnro."
Microsoft's excuse? These workarounds "inadvertently skip critical setup screens" and cause config issues. Translation: They want to force you to connect to the internet and create a Microsoft account so they can collect your data and lock you into their ecosystem.
What can you do?
✅ Switch to Linux (it's never been easier)
✅ Not even Apple requires an account on macOS
✅ Create a custom Windows 11 ISO using third-party tools like Rufus, which can pre-configure local account support

🚨 BREAKING: Chat Control BLOCKED in EU! 🎉
Germany just refused to back the EU's mass surveillance "Chat Control" regulation after public pressure! This blocks the required majority in the EU Council and derails next week's planned vote. NICE JOB EVERYONE! 💪
But the fight isn't over. Chat Control proponents won't give up easily. We must keep the pressure on. Freedom is only as valuable as our willingness to fight for it. Stay vigilant. Stay loud.
