At Cabin Creek, West Virginia, these gatling gun bunkers still exist. Yes, my Popaw, Charley O'Neal, lived through such days. 1912 Martial Law was on the creek and coal miners were unarmed. This was forced labor on another level of terror. Right here in America. These men eventually led the largest armed uprising other than the Civil War, aka, the Battle for Blair Mountain. This was an organized fight for human rights and dignity. God bless our coal miners.

My Grandfather, Earl O'Neal, born 1919 walked 7 miles off Cabin Creek, West Virginia to carry groceries back from the A&P for other coal mining families. This was something the coal companies hated.

His father Charley (1894-1977) always chose cash, becoming a role model to other men to do the same. Charley was often punished by coal operators for asking to be paid in cash. He was put in wet, small holes, digging coal under adversity. They never broke his will and his son learned how to be a good man.

Grandfather said the Carnation canned milk was 2 for 10 cents at the A&P Grocery OR 11 cent for one can at the company store. His forearms used to look like Popeye's.... He said he carried many a family's groceries if they chose cash for pay instead of scrip. This is one way miners took back their power. #wvminewars #motherjones #1u #jeanabrown #oraltruths #westvirginia

Pictured is my grandfather holding Aunt Carol, his second child. Look at those arms! My hero!💯💓

Hello all, I want to wish you all happy holidays. In researching my latest story, I needed a death certificate which had to be acquired in person in WV. With that it became a mess, no record of GGrandfather (maternal) and they finally found him on microfilm. I'm headed back to WV this week, to do further research for Basham's Taxi and know I appreciate you all. There are a few more stories in me so please be patient, hug each other, and stay faithful in all things. Love Jeana.

Friends, I had a setback creating Bashams' Taxi Service. It simply has to do with the DMV in WV and trying to find out the "rest of the story" as Paul Harvey used to say. It is taking time to track down who took ownership of the vehicles after they were confiscated during martial law. I want to continue to give you the very best information as I am able to develop the oral stories out. Hang in there! Lastly, I just created a Patreon page,

I hope you will all become members! I appreciate and love you all!
