The Lecturer Who Said I Would Never Have a Distinction
Part 1
I will never forget the day one of my HND Physics Lab Technicians looked me straight in the eye and said:
“You will never have a distinction in this department. Physics is not for distinction candidates. I will follow you to the end.”
Yes! to my face.
I was stunned. I didn’t steal, cheat, or disrespect him. My only “crime” was organizing tutorials for my coursemates and students, tutorials that I used to make students pass exams effortlessly, to survive, pay my rent, and afford my school fees because nobody was supporting me. It looked like I was trying to prove too much or trying to be what I shouldn’t be and that became a threat to this man.
As if his words were not enough, this same Lab Technologist went ahead and gave me 0/40 in a practical exam we hadn’t even written yet.
You read that right.
Zero.
Over.
Forty.
Then he boldly pinned it to the notice board in his office to humiliate me in front of everyone who walked in there.
People begged on my behalf. My classmates but he refused to listen to anyone.
This man was determined to pull me down.
I even went to him privately. I explained:
"Sir, I finished my ND in 2012. I couldn’t proceed to HND in 2013 with my mates because I had no support. It took me till 2016 to come back. I teach students just to survive and help others."
He nodded like he heard me…
But did what was already in his heart.
From then on, he did everything possible to make sure I never succeeded. In every exam, I was separated from the crowd and made to sit alone. It felt like punishment.
Like humiliation.
Students feared him.
Lecturers wouldn’t speak against him.
Nobody challenged his wickedness.
I wasn’t even sure he had a Master’s degree, he was mostly a lab technologist with HND or maybe a PGD. But somehow, he had the power to frustrate students.
Even when he stopped teaching me in HND1, he still reached out to his colleagues and influenced my results negatively.
I remember after every practical session, I would write the report so well. I plotted my graphs perfectly. I used my brain. I helped many of my classmates do theirs and they would all score an A.
Me? I would see C.
I wanted to scream.
I wanted to give up.
I wanted to cry.
Some courses that everyone feared, I would score A or AB.
But that Lab Technologist course?
C. Always C.
It was all calculated.
But guess what?
I may not have gotten that Distinction in my HND…
But I didn’t let him win.
I graduated with an Upper Credit, and I promised myself that:
"While going for my PGD and Master's, I must come back and break every limitation. I must face the most difficult aspect of physics-Theoretical and Mathematical Physics and I must graduate with distinction."
That’s exactly what I did.
But I will leave that for Part 2.
Many students out there are victims of lecturers like this.
Some of you reading this today are still struggling because of a teacher who told you “you can’t.”
Some of you hate math or physics or chemistry because someone made you feel useless.
Now I want to hear your story:
Which teacher or lecturer made you almost give up?
💔 Which subject did they ruin for you?
Drop it in the comment section. Let your story be heard.
Anticipate PART 2
The comeback.
The distinction.
The victory.

I Failed Statistics Twice 😔
Let me tell you a story many people don’t know…
When I entered Year 1, I was full of excitement, big dreams, fresh energy.
But I made one mistake: I was unserious with Statistics.
I underestimated it.
I failed the course, not once, but twice.
Carry over became my reality.
I felt shame, fear, even regret.
I remember walking into the exam hall the second time, heart pounding, praying I’d just pass this time. But boom, another carry over.
That moment broke something in me, but it also ignited a fire.
I told myself: Alison, you no go carry this course again in your life!
I sat up.
I started learning Statistics from scratch, not to pass, but to understand.
I gave it the respect it deserved.
I studied it, practiced it, and over time… I became so good at it,
I started teaching others.
Fast forward to today
I’ve trained students who are now making A’s in that same course that once defeated me.
That’s why when students fail, I understand.
I’ve been there. I carry the scar. And now, I carry the solution.
I didn’t become a tutor because I was born brilliant.
I became a tutor because I was broken by failure, but I chose to rise.
Whether it’s Math, Statistics, Chemistry, or Physics
I now teach these subjects, and I teach them in relatable Pidgin English so that no matter your background, you can understand.
You too can rise. You too can pass.
You just need the right guide and I’m here for you.
📚💪
Let’s turn your story around, just like I turned mine.
Drop a ❤️ if you’ve ever failed a subject and came back stronger.
And tag someone who needs this message today.

Discipline. Precision. Resilience.
Not every part of me shows up with a whiteboard or a computer screen. Some roots run deeper. The orientation I received has shaped how I think, how I speak, how I respond, even how I see life.
In a world full of noise, structure teaches you to be still.
In a world full of pressure, training teaches you to stand.
Grateful for the journey so far.
And may God protect everyone in service, those standing for peace, order, and sacrifice.

Maybe no one will chat with me on this but I really need to talk to someone 😩
One principle in quantum mechanics that really stands out to me is the No-Cloning Theorem.
In classical computing, you can copy information freely, files, messages, even backup entire systems.
But in the quantum world, it’s different:
You can’t perfectly copy an unknown quantum state.
That’s wild! At first, I thought maybe it was just a technical limitation. But no, it’s a fundamental law.
If you try to clone a qubit in an unknown state, quantum mechanics says “No.”
I’m still thinking about how this connects to quantum cryptography and why it’s so important for secure communication.
If you’ve taught or worked with this principle before, how do you normally explain the idea to people coming from a classical mindset?
As always, I’m documenting my learning journey while remaining open to fully funded PhD opportunities in quantum computing and theoretical physics.

From N500 and Buns… to Distinctions.
(Please read to the end. This might be the reminder you need today.)
In 2010, I gained admission into the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede.
I wasn’t the smartest in class. I wasn’t even close.
But I moved with three friends who were.
They were students who spoke about formulas, concepts, and exam questions while walking to class or eating lunch.
I may not have read like them, but listening made me wiser.
That’s how I started growing by walking with the wise.
If you think you’re slow academically, attach yourself to those who are ahead. You’ll start catching up without even realizing it.
But wisdom wasn’t my only challenge.
Money was. Survival was. Eating was.
I played bass guitar in a church that paid me ₦500 per service.
Whether it was Sunday or midweek service, it was always ₦500.
₦500 that could buy me a plate of eba and soup for that day.
₦500 that they didn’t always give.
Sometimes they’d delay it. Sometimes it’d come short.
Sometimes I would survive on buns… and pure water.
I couldn’t afford textbooks.
I couldn’t afford practical manuals.
I couldn’t even afford food most days.
It affected my results. But I never gave up.
After ND in 2012, I went for IT in 2013.
When others returned for HND, I stayed back. I couldn’t afford it.
But instead of hiding, I came back to school… to teach.
I organized tutorials for ND and HND students.
Yes, I hadn’t even done my HND, but I read, taught, and delivered.
Students thought I was a graduate already.
Some thought I’d gone for NYSC.
This was my life in 2013, 2014, and 2015.
Until 2016…
My pastor’s wife looked at me and asked,
Are you waiting for NYSC or work? Or have you graduated?”
That was the moment I broke down and told her everything.
She was stunned. And moved.
She told her husband and she encouraged me to pick the HND form, write the Post UTME and when it is successful as she knew it would, they will loan me the #10,000 to pay for my acceptance fee.
That was how I returned.
But my family thought I was still in school all along.
When I told my mom the truth, it broke her.
She began comparing me with others:
“Your mates have gone for service already… Some are working…”
But I looked her in the eye and said something she still remembers to this day:
It is not how far, but how well.
I finished my HND strongly. I was popular again, not for clothes or money, but because I taught my coursemates.
After that?
I did my PGD in Theoretical Physics and had a Distinction.
I did my Master’s in Theoretical Mathematical Physics and had a Distinction also.
And I’m still going.
I don’t share this story for praise.
I share it because I know someone reading this is about to give up.
Maybe you’re hungry. Maybe you’re broke.
Maybe your mates have “gone far.”
But I came to tell you:
Stay the course.
Keep pushing.
Attach yourself to growth.
And don’t give up.

10,000 Subscribers: A Story of Grace, Growth & Gratitude
I still remember when I uploaded my very first video… no fancy equipment or experience, just a passion for teaching and a burning desire to help someone understand math and science a little better.
I had no idea where this road would lead.
Sometimes only 5 people would watch. Other times, nobody would comment. But I kept going, not because it was easy, but because I believed that one day, it would matter to someone.
And today…
It matters to 10,000 of you.
10,000 people clicked “subscribe” because they saw value in what I do.
That humbles me.
Behind every number is a name. A student struggling with a concept. A parent looking for help for their child. A curious learner trying to make sense of a formula.
And somehow, in my little way, I became a part of your learning journey.
I want you to know this:
You didn’t just help me grow a channel. You helped me grow in confidence, in purpose, in impact.
So to every single subscriber…
To those who have liked, shared, and commented…
To those who watched quietly and kept coming back…
To those who believed in me when I barely believed in myself…
Thank you.
This 10,000 is not just a number. It’s a testimony. A reminder that when you stay faithful to the small beginnings, greater doors will open.
We’re just getting started.
Let’s keep learning. Let’s keep growing. Together.
With all my heart,
Instructor Alison ❤️

Why I Chose to Teach in Pidgin
People laugh when I say I teach Mathematics in Pidgin English.
But let me tell you something…
I didn’t grow up with British English in my house. I grew up hearing, “Abeg, make we solve am like this.”
So, when I see students struggling with Math, it’s not always because they are dull, it’s because the explanation is foreign. Complicated. Unreachable.
That’s why I started teaching in Pidgin.
Because education should meet people where they are.
Today, I’ve seen students who once feared Algebra now say, “This thing no hard like that.”
The language of learning is not always English. It’s clarity. It’s connection.
👉🏽 What’s one way you’re doing something different, even if it seems unpopular?

Lately, I’ve been diving into the world of quantum computing, not just out of curiosity but because it feels like one of the most exciting frontiers in modern physics.
One idea that keeps getting me is the concept of a qubit. Unlike a classical bit that is either 0 or 1, a qubit can be in both states at once, this is called superposition.
It’s like flipping a coin and instead of landing on heads or tails, it somehow stays in both positions… until you observe it. That’s wild. But it’s not just theory, this is how real quantum computers work.
I’m still exploring and learning, but I’ve developed a deep interest in this field and I’ll be sharing more thoughts as I try to understand how it all fits together, from superposition to entanglement to quantum gates.
At this point, I’m actively open to fully funded PhD opportunities related to quantum computing or theoretical physics. This is a path I’d love to pursue further through structured research and collaboration.
If you’re a professor, researcher, or part of a team working on anything in this area, I’d really appreciate a conversation. Also, if you’re into quantum computing or just curious like me, how do you usually explain what a qubit is?
Let’s connect.
