MAJORITY OF AFGHANS RESETTLED FOLLOWING DATA LEAK *NOT FOUND* TO HAVE ASSISTED BRITISH FORCES
Contrary to many reports, the majority of Afghans relocated to our country following the data leak WERE NOT found to have assisted British forces. The scheme for those who did so was called ARAP. The vast majority (15,700 out of 18,800) affected by the data leak were ineligible.
When Afghans are rehoused in communities across Wales, the argument that they assisted British forces is often deployed. Yet in many cases, this is incredibly misleading.
The below is from the Rimmer Review, commissioned by the Government into the scandal. Not only did the Review find most affected could not prove they assisted British forces, it also found the leaked dataset is โunlikely to profoundly change the existing risk profile of individuals named on the datasetโ.
The scheme is estimated to cost taxpayers ยฃ7 billion. Many Afghans are, and set to be, housed in communities across Wales.
Itโs vital those communities are aware of these facts.
