Here's what messes with me: In real life, we tell people to comply with criminals. But we also celebrate those who stand up to them. We say "don't be a hero" but we admire heroes.

So I'm genuinely asking: When someone chooses to be brave in the face of violence, and violence wins... how do we honor their courage without questioning their choice?

Because Sarah's question—"What are you going to do, shoot us?"—wasn't stupid. It was the question of someone who'd decided fear wasn't going to control her anymore.

Even if it killed her.
