Welcome to MOWI, the home of Mowi — an independent music project focused primarily on original songs exploring alternative rock, dark atmospheres, indie textures and cinematic emotion.

Here you’ll find mostly original music, along with occasional collaborations and selected covers when a song deserves a new voice. The sound blends spacious guitars with delay and reverb, deep bass lines, hypnotic drums, immersive synths and expressive baritone male vocals, moving between dark and moody rock, emotional indie, acoustic and experimental moments.

MOWI

I’m in a different phase of my life. I’ve fallen in love with the concept and culture of minimalism, especially the Japanese approach. I’ve been trying for years, but now I’m taking it seriously. I’m making a big effort to distance myself from this consumerist lifestyle and to stop accumulating things. Basically: few items, and everything in its place.

And you might wonder… why am I telling you all this. Well, first, talking only about music bores me, and you know I took a break from YouTube. Even though I’ve uploaded a couple of weekend videos, I haven’t really come back yet — they were things I had already recorded. But even in music I’ve become minimalist, and I’m trying to mentally disconnect from all the music and videos I’ve created and uploaded over the years.

Many days I want to go back to uploading three songs a week, replying to all your wonderful comments, and visiting your channels… but right now, it just doesn’t come out of me. I think that once I organize things — or rather, once I leave the disorder behind — I’ll be back with you. Until then, forgive me if I’m not very active.

Three examples: for eating, I have four bowls, just one set of cutlery, chopsticks, and a single glass — I donated the rest. As for clothes, I kept four T‑shirts, a couple of shirts, a couple of jackets, one pair of dress shoes and one pair of sneakers. Five bags of clothes donated for whoever needs them. No more books, CDs, or random items around the house — everything given to charity.

Basically, when something comes in, something else goes out, but only what’s necessary (danshari). And ma, the empty space that gives meaning to what exists. Don’t think I’ve gone crazy — I’m just trying to improve my life. Less is more!!

MOWI

Well friends, I want to share what I’ve decided to do with my music.

This break from YouTube has really cleared my mind, and now I can see much more clearly how I want to use my time. I’m no longer a 20‑year‑old kid, and I’m looking for different things in my musical life.

You’ve seen – and endured – many versions of MOWI: from the purest acoustic sound to the darkest one, passing through pop, EDM and alternative rock… thank you all so much. Talking with you has been the only thing I’ve truly missed during this time away.

But musically, there’s something I’ve been missing even more: what I’ve been doing since I was 12 years old – studying music and diving deep into learning methods. Since October 2021, when I uploaded my first song, I haven’t really done that. Now I’m going back to finding time where there is none, to improve as a bass player, something I’ve neglected with all these YouTube productions.

My musical life has always been spent between rehearsal rooms and stages – and luckily, many of them. Recordings too. And since I decided I no longer wanted to carry drum kits around and give everything on stage, I’ve been learning a thousand ways to record my music and my covers, especially since opening my YouTube channel. My channel shows 770 videos (ufffff), plus many more set to private, and today 1,442 incredible and fantastic subscribers. Not huge numbers, but for me it’s been wonderful. Personally, I think I deserved more from YouTube, but I know many of us feel the same.

This is NOT a goodbye, because I’ll keep uploading songs – probably once a week – especially an acoustic project that will end up becoming an album in about a month. But I can’t stay as active as before, because I need to go back to studying music, and I’m not someone who plays for just an hour and calls it a day.

I’d like to express something, which I’ll explain much better in Saturday’s video, because through music I express myself better.

– I can spend 25 hours a day in the studio.
– I can spend 26 hours a day editing video.
– A billion concerts, on very big stages and very small ones.
– Album recordings.
– Music competitions.
– Playing drums since I was 12.
– Studying music since I was 13.
– Half a lifetime in rehearsal rooms, reading music or practicing with bands.
– My passion is electric bass and electric, acoustic guitar or piano — maybe a surprise.
– I have a baritone range, but I feel comfortable as a tenor and sometimes as a bass.
– Sometimes I record better, sometimes worse; sometimes I rely on the studio and the usual producer tricks, other times I just open the mic and record.
– Pushing my brain to create versions different from the originals; I’m not a copycat, nor do I want to be.
–I respect that, but MOWI doesn’t just pick up a guitar, turn on their phone, and record a song — that life is long gone, and I don’t like repeating myself.
– Multitrack recordings in the style of The Beatles.
– About 5 years working for free on YouTube, with my different channels.
– Use of almost all the recording software out there.
– Lately I only use GarageBand and CapCut.
– MIDI recordings.
– Instrument isolation.
– Some AI tricks for mixing. Some people tell me… “You use AI.” Let me tell you something… better not, I won’t.
– A thousand collaborations.
– A thousand acoustic-and-voice recordings.
– Expert in SEO and channel configuration.
– Ahhh respect, but this is not a Karaoke channel.
Etc, etc, etc..........

I do whatever I want with music, especially my own, and I don’t need anyone to tell me how I should record my music. I’ll do it however I want to achieve what I want, which is basically to move people with the music I make, and try to be original. And to see how, from the moment I write a song with bass or acoustic guitar, invent the lyrics, record it in the studio, edit the videos, and publish the video, it becomes a very long, long, long journey......And I do this purely out of my love for music. And if I release a lot of music, it’s because I’ve worked hard creating everything I offer for free — you do it too ;)

Friend, don’t tell me how to record or in what way to record. I don’t tell you how to do it either.

My dear friends, tomorrow I’m starting a few days off — that’s why I haven’t been able to visit your channels, and I miss it. I’m still here, but free for a few days starting tomorrow, ok? …thank you all. Ah.....Tomorrow I have a fantastic track from our friend Harriet b, and starting next week I’ll have something a bit darker and guitar-driven, in my style ❤️
