"A stranger is just a friend you haven't met yet."
Backstory:
I lost all of my work as a DJ on March 17, 2020 due to the pandemic and decided to sell off most of my belongings, move into my van, and travel the country learning about the life of others. Fast forward to today, I am grateful to be back DJ'ing full time but this channel remains.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy the videos 😊

Sometimes life just introduces you to the right people and you can't help but say yes to an invitation, not knowing what's going to happen next. That was the case for the latest video I posted.
The man in the middle, Andreas, is a professional photographer in Crete, Greece and while I was on the island DJing a wedding, he invited my wife and I to the village he grew up in. This very small traditional village felt like a movie set. You'd be walking past buildings that changed the course of history while watching a herd of sheep walk by.
Within the few days we were there, people knew our names and we knew theirs. Some would invite us into their home and others would want to know everything about you over a drink of raki. Conversations were done through a translator app, sometimes we'd get lucky and they'd know a little bit of English. Luckily, Andreas spent part of his adult life in New York and is fluent in both English and Greek. We had the best tour guide anyone could ever ask for and grateful for the time he spent with us.
Thank you, Embrosneros. You're a small village with a big heart. If any of you ever gets the chance to visit Crete, I hope you can make the time to visit this charming community :)

My real job is I'm an event DJ and I'm working on a brand audit of my company. It's where someone really marketing-savvy comes in and says do this, don't do that, yada yada. I'm asking for help with one the questions the brand auditor has for me: "Ask a stranger who has never engaged with your brand how they feel when on your website or social media pages? Who are you as a DJ to them? What seems to be your strengths? What do they see that sets you apart from other DJs?"
To those who I have never had the pleasure of working with, I would love it if you scanned my site and/or social media pages and tell me how it makes you feel. Heck, you may not even know it's what I do full time, so you'd be perfect to look through it!

At 18 years old, Dominik is the youngest commercial fisherman I’ve filmed and one of the hardest working guys I’ve met. During stone crab season, he wakes up around 3:30am, is on the water pulling 800-1,000 traps a day, gets home around 5-6pm, and will do this every day there is good weather from Oct. 15-April 30th. One day he hopes to captain his own boat.

This is me saying yesssss after getting word that my stone crab video can be released!! Goes live today at 4pm EST time.
My dream is that one day these videos only take a week to edit and publish cause I have so many ideas in the works and editing is really holding me back. And on top of that, it’s event season for me now and prepping and DJing events takes up a ton of time. Are you a social media manager or know someone that is or interested in being one? Let’s talk! www.scottcgerke.com/contact

For reasons beyond my control, I won't be able to publish the stone crab video now 😢
I'm sure I'll post some pics and vids that I'm able to share publicly, but for now, I gotta catch a flight to Chicago and quickly head over to the thrift store for some frozen tundra clothing. It's gonna be snowing on Halloween, woo hoo!

Got any questions about the stone crab fishing industry? Get them in before Sunday night and I’ll do my best to get your questions answered in the video!
PS: I used to carry three times as many cameras when I did these types of adventures and it was always a pain the 🍑. I’m trying to train my brain into thinking I don’t need soooo many cameras to make commercial fishing-type videos anymore. Please help keep me in check.
As for my attachments and other gear, we’ll keep this out of the frame. I’m not ready to part with those yet 😬

These pictures were taken during the last scene in my most recent video, which highlights the growing migrant crisis in Chicago. Allen, the newspaper vendor who is featured in the video, spends his shift next to a family of asylum seekers who are panhandling, while he’s there trying to make an honest living selling newspapers.
It’s a common occurrence for anyone who has a business set up near a busy sidewalk.
Thousands of asylum seekers have taken to the street asking for money and food while the city of Chicago is trying to figure out what to do. 18+ charter buses are coming in daily and winter is soon approaching. From what I’m seeing and reading, there doesn’t seem to any end in sight and plans to mitigate this situation don’t look convincing.
