The Zafarnama: A Testament of Moral Victory
The Zafarnama, literally translating to "Epistle of Victory" (Jitt da Khat), is a historic letter written in Persian verse by Guru Gobind Singh Ji to the Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.

Despite military losses at the Battle of Chamkaur, the Guru declares a profound moral and spiritual victory. He boldly rebukes Aurangzeb for his broken oaths, lack of true faith, and tyranny. A central message of the letter is that resorting to arms is justified only when all other peaceful avenues have failed.

The letter also serves as a stern warning, informing the Emperor that the foundations for his defeat in Punjab were already laid. This powerful document reportedly caused Aurangzeb immense distress, contributing to his demise, and stands today as a timeless symbol of the unwavering Sikh spirit against injustice.

ਜ਼ਫ਼ਰਨਾਮਾ, ਜਿਸਦਾ ਸ਼ਬਦੀ ਅਰਥ "ਜਿੱਤ ਦਾ ਖ਼ਤ" ਹੈ, ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਮੁਗਲ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਔਰੰਗਜ਼ੇਬ ਨੂੰ ਫ਼ਾਰਸੀ ਕਵਿਤਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਇੱਕ ਇਤਿਹਾਸਕ ਪੱਤਰ ਹੈ।

ਚਮਕੌਰ ਦੀ ਜੰਗ ਵਿੱਚ ਫੌਜੀ ਨੁਕਸਾਨ ਹੋਣ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ, ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਇਸਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਵੱਡੀ ਨੈਤਿਕ ਅਤੇ ਰੂਹਾਨੀ ਜਿੱਤ ਐਲਾਨਿਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਔਰੰਗਜ਼ੇਬ ਨੂੰ ਉਸਦੀਆਂ ਤੋੜੀਆਂ ਹੋਈਆਂ ਕਸਮਾਂ, ਸੱਚੇ ਧਰਮ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਿਸ਼ਵਾਸ ਦੀ ਘਾਟ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ੁਲਮਾਂ ਲਈ ਬੇਬਾਕੀ ਨਾਲ ਫਿਟਕਾਰ ਪਾਈ। ਇਸ ਪੱਤਰ ਦਾ ਮੁੱਖ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ ਇਹ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਹਥਿਆਰ ਚੁੱਕਣੇ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਉਦੋਂ ਹੀ ਜਾਇਜ਼ ਹਨ ਜਦੋਂ ਸ਼ਾਂਤੀ ਦੇ ਬਾਕੀ ਸਾਰੇ ਰਸਤੇ ਬੰਦ ਹੋ ਜਾਣ।

ਇਹ ਪੱਤਰ ਇੱਕ ਸਖ਼ਤ ਚੇਤਵਨੀ ਵਜੋਂ ਵੀ ਕੰਮ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਾਦਸ਼ਾਹ ਨੂੰ ਦੱਸਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਕਿ ਪੰਜਾਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਉਸਦੀ ਹਾਰ ਦੀ ਨੀਂਹ ਰੱਖੀ ਜਾ ਚੁੱਕੀ ਹੈ। ਕਿਹਾ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਕਿ ਇਸ ਸ਼ਕਤੀਸ਼ਾਲੀ ਦਸਤਾਵੇਜ਼ ਨੇ ਔਰੰਗਜ਼ੇਬ ਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਮਾਨਸਿਕ ਪੀੜਾ ਦਿੱਤੀ, ਜੋ ਉਸਦੀ ਮੌਤ ਦਾ ਕਾਰਨ ਬਣੀ। ਅੱਜ ਇਹ ਜ਼ੁਲਮ ਦੇ ਖਿਲਾਫ਼ ਸਿੱਖਾਂ ਦੇ ਅਡੋਲ ਹੌਸਲੇ ਦਾ ਇੱਕ ਸਦੀਵੀ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਕ ਹੈ।

On this deeply historical day of 10 Poh, we remember the beginning of a supreme sacrifice.
Today marks the first night Mata Gujri Ji and the very young Chote Sahibzade—Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji—spent imprisoned in the chilling 'Thanda Burj' (Cold Tower) in Sirhind.
Held captive by the Governor Wazir Khan, they were forced to endure the biting winter winds in an open tower without any warm clothes or shelter. Despite the freezing physical conditions, their spiritual strength and resilience remained unwavering.

Let us bow our heads in remembrance of their immense courage.

ਅੱਜ ਉਹ ਪਹਿਲੀ ਰਾਤ ਹੈ ਜਦੋਂ ਮਾਤਾ ਗੁਜਰੀ ਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਛੋਟੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਜ਼ਾਦੇ - ਬਾਬਾ ਜ਼ੋਰਾਵਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਬਾ ਫਤਹਿ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ - ਨੇ ਸਰਹਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਠੰਡੇ ਬੁਰਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੈਦ ਕੱਟੀ ਸੀ।
ਸੂਬਾ ਵਜ਼ੀਰ ਖਾਨ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕੈਦ ਕੀਤੇ ਗਏ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਬਿਨਾਂ ਗਰਮ ਕੱਪੜਿਆਂ ਜਾਂ ਆਸਰੇ ਦੇ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹੇ ਬੁਰਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੜਾਕੇ ਦੀ ਠੰਢ ਅਤੇ ਤੇਜ਼ ਹਵਾਵਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਹਿਣ ਲਈ ਮਜਬੂਰ ਕੀਤਾ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।

ਸਰੀਰਕ ਤੌਰ 'ਤੇ ਜਮਾ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਹਾਲਾਤਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਰੂਹਾਨੀ ਤਾਕਤ ਅਤੇ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਤਾ ਅਟੱਲ ਰਹੀ।

ਆਓ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਅਦੁੱਤੀ ਹਿੰਮਤ ਨੂੰ ਯਾਦ ਕਰਦਿਆਂ ਸੀਸ ਝੁਕਾਈਏ।

The Last Shaheed of Chamkaur Saheb Battle: The Forgotten Story of Bibi Harsharan Kaur Ji ⚔️🔥

On this day, 10 Poh, after the Battle of Chamkaur had ended, silence fell over the battlefield. While Guru Gobind Singh Ji and the Panj Pyare had left the Garhi, the sacred bodies of the Vadae Sahibzaade and over 40 Singhs lay uncovered under the open sky.

Driven by an immense love for the Guru and a sister’s duty, she could not bear the thought of her brothers rightfully denied their last rites. Under the cover of darkness, risking everything, she gathered the bodies of the Shaheeds. She built a funeral pyre and performed the Antim Sanskar (last rites) for the Elder Sahibzaade and the fallen warriors, reciting Kirtan Sohila in the dead of night.
When the Mughal soldiers spotted the flames, they captured her. For her act of defiance and devotion, she was thrown into the very pyre she had lit.
She attained martyrdom alongside her brothers, becoming the final Shaheed of the Battle of Chamkaur. Her story is rarely told, but her courage is immortal.

Bibi Harsharan Kaur Ji proved that the spirit of the Khalsa runs equally in the veins of its daughters.

Let us ensure no Sikh forgets her name.

ਅੱਜ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ, ੧੦ ਪੋਹ ਨੂੰ, ਜਦੋਂ ਚਮਕੌਰ ਦੀ ਜੰਗ ਖਤਮ ਹੋ ਗਈ ਸੀ, ਜੰਗ ਦੇ ਮੈਦਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਹਰ ਪਾਸੇ ਚੁੱਪ ਛਾ ਗਈ ਸੀ। ਜਦੋਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਪੰਜ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਗੜ੍ਹੀ ਛੱਡ ਗਏ ਸਨ, ਤਾਂ ਵੱਡੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਜ਼ਾਦਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ੪੦ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਸਿੰਘਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਸਰੀਰ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹੇ ਅਸਮਾਨ ਹੇਠ ਪਏ ਸਨ।

ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਲਈ ਅਥਾਹ ਪਿਆਰ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਭੈਣ ਦੇ ਫਰਜ਼ ਤੋਂ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਿਤ ਹੋ ਕੇ, ਬੀਬੀ ਹਰਸ਼ਰਨ ਕੌਰ ਜੀ ਇਹ ਬਰਦਾਸ਼ਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਕਰ ਸਕੇ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਵੀਰਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤਿਮ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਨਾ ਹੋਵੇ। ਹਨੇਰੇ ਦੀ ਆੜ ਵਿੱਚ, ਸਭ ਕੁਝ ਦਾਅ 'ਤੇ ਲਗਾ ਕੇ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦਾਂ ਦੇ ਪਵਿੱਤਰ ਸਰੀਰ ਇਕੱਠੇ ਕੀਤੇ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਚਿਖਾ ਤਿਆਰ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਵੱਡੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਜ਼ਾਦਿਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਸਿੰਘਾਂ ਦਾ ਅੰਤਿਮ ਸੰਸਕਾਰ ਕੀਤਾ, ਅਤੇ ਅੱਧੀ ਰਾਤ ਦੇ ਸੰਨਾਟੇ ਵਿੱਚ 'ਕੀਰਤਨ ਸੋਹਿਲਾ' ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦਾ ਪਾਠ ਕੀਤਾ।
ਜਦੋਂ ਮੁਗਲ ਸਿਪਾਹੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਅੱਗ ਦੀਆਂ ਲਪਟਾਂ ਦੇਖੀਆਂ, ਤਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਬੀਬੀ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਫੜ ਲਿਆ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਲੇਰੀ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਪ੍ਰਤੀ ਸ਼ਰਧਾ ਬਦਲੇ, ਜ਼ਾਲਮਾਂ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਉਸੇ ਚਿਖਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੁੱਟ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਜੋ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪ ਜਗਾਈ ਸੀ।

ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਵੀਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਨਾਲ ਸ਼ਹੀਦੀ ਪਾ ਗਏ ਅਤੇ ਚਮਕੌਰ ਦੀ ਜੰਗ ਦੇ ਆਖਰੀ ਸ਼ਹੀਦ ਬਣ ਗਏ। ਭਾਵੇਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਕਹਾਣੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਘੱਟ ਸੁਣਾਈ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਦਲੇਰੀ ਅਮਰ ਹੈ।

ਬੀਬੀ ਹਰਸ਼ਰਨ ਕੌਰ ਜੀ ਨੇ ਸਾਬਤ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ ਖਾਲਸੇ ਦਾ ਜਜ਼ਬਾ ਕੌਮ ਦੀਆਂ ਧੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਰਗਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੀ ਬਰਾਬਰ ਦੌੜਦਾ ਹੈ।

ਆਓ ਇਹ ਯਕੀਨੀ ਬਣਾਈਏ ਕਿ ਕੋਈ ਵੀ ਸਿੱਖ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਨਾ ਭੁੱਲੇ।

ਖਾਲਸੇ ਦੀ ਇਸ ਬਹਾਦਰ ਧੀ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਰਧਾਂਜਲੀ ਦੇਣ ਲਈ ਇਸ ਪੋਸਟ ਨੂੰ ਵੱਧ ਤੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਸ਼ੇਅਰ ਕਰੋ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਰੂ ਤੋਂ ਵਿਛੋੜੇ ਤੋਂ ਇਲਾਵਾ ਹੋਰ ਕਿਸੇ ਚੀਜ਼ ਦਾ ਡਰ ਨਹੀਂ ਸੀ। 🙏🏽

9 Poh: The Day of Betrayal and Arrest.

The Arrest of Mata Gujri Ji & The Chotte Sahibzade.

On this day, 9 Poh (approx. 23 Dec), a tragic turn of events took place in Sikh history. Due to the betrayal of their cook, Gangu, Mata Gujri Ji and the younger sons of Guru Gobind Singh Ji—Baba Zorawar Singh Ji and Baba Fateh Singh Ji—were arrested. They were kept in captivity in Morinda before being moved to the cold tower (Thanda Burj) in Sirhind.

Those innocent souls were chained ⛓️‍💥🔗 and taken via Morinda to Sirhind, marking the beginning of the Saka Sirhind.
Despite the chains, their spirits remained high. Dhan Mata Gujri Ji, Dhan Chote Sahibzade. 🙇‍♂️

Let us remember their resilience and sacrifice today. 🙏

ਅੱਜ ਦੇ ਦਿਨ, ੯ ਪੋਹ (ਲਗਭਗ 23 ਦਸੰਬਰ) ਨੂੰ ਸਿੱਖ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਵਿੱਚ ਇੱਕ ਬਹੁਤ ਹੀ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਘਟਨਾ ਵਾਪਰੀ। ਰਸੋਈਏ ਗੰਗੂ ਦੀ ਧੋਖੇਬਾਜ਼ੀ ਕਾਰਨ, ਮਾਤਾ ਗੁਜਰੀ ਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦੇ ਛੋਟੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਜ਼ਾਦਿਆਂ - ਬਾਬਾ ਜ਼ੋਰਾਵਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਅਤੇ ਬਾਬਾ ਫਤਿਹ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ - ਨੂੰ ਗ੍ਰਿਫ਼ਤਾਰ ਕਰ ਲਿਆ ਗਿਆ।

ਸਰਹਿੰਦ ਦੇ ਠੰਡੇ ਬੁਰਜ ਵਿੱਚ ਲਿਜਾਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੋਰਿੰਡਾ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੈਦ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ।
ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਾਸੂਮ ਜਿੰਦਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜ਼ੰਜੀਰਾਂ ⛓️‍💥🔗 ਵਿੱਚ ਜਕੜ ਕੇ ਮੋਰਿੰਡਾ ਰਸਤੇ ਸਰਹਿੰਦ ਲਿਜਾਇਆ ਗਿਆ, ਜੋ ਕਿ 'ਸਾਕਾ ਸਰਹਿੰਦ' ਦੀ ਸ਼ੁਰੂਆਤ ਸੀ।

ਬੇੜੀਆਂ ਅਤੇ ਜ਼ੰਜੀਰਾਂ ਦੇ ਬਾਵਜੂਦ, ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੌਸਲੇ ਬੁਲੰਦ ਸਨ। ਧੰਨ ਮਾਤਾ ਗੁਜਰੀ ਜੀ, ਧੰਨ ਛੋਟੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਜ਼ਾਦੇ। 🙇‍♂️

The Night of 9 Poh:

When a Sikh became the reflection of his Guru. ⚔️🙏


In the mud fortress of Chamkaur, amidst the heat of battle, a unique history was written. When the Panj Pyare ordered Guru Gobind Singh Ji to leave the fort to ensure the survival of the Khalsa Panth, the Guru bowed to their command.

But he did not leave quietly. He bestowed his own Dastar (turban), Royal Attire, and his Kalgi (plume) upon Bhai Sangat Singh Ji. Bhai Sangat Singh Ji bore such a striking resemblance to the Guru that he stayed behind as a decoy, misleading the Mughal forces and allowing the Guru to escape safely.

9 ਪੋਹ ਦੀ ਰਾਤ: ਜਦੋਂ ਇੱਕ ਸਿੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਰੂਪ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ। ⚔️🙏

ਚਮਕੌਰ ਦੀ ਕੱਚੀ ਗੜ੍ਹੀ ਵਿੱਚ, ਜੰਗ ਦੇ ਭੱਖਦੇ ਮਾਹੌਲ ਵਿੱਚ, ਇੱਕ ਅਨੋਖਾ ਇਤਿਹਾਸ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਗਿਆ। ਜਦੋਂ ਪੰਜ ਪਿਆਰਿਆਂ ਨੇ ਖਾਲਸਾ ਪੰਥ ਦੀ ਸਲਾਮਤੀ ਲਈ ਗੁਰੂ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਗੜ੍ਹੀ ਛੱਡਣ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਦਿੱਤਾ, ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਹੁਕਮ ਅੱਗੇ ਸੀਸ ਝੁਕਾਇਆ।

ਪਰ ਉਹ ਚੁੱਪ-ਚਾਪ ਨਹੀਂ ਗਏ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਦਸਤਾਰ, ਸ਼ਾਹੀ ਪੋਸ਼ਾਕ ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਕਲਗੀ ਭਾਈ ਸੰਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਨੂੰ ਬਖਸ਼ ਦਿੱਤੀ। ਭਾਈ ਸੰਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਦਾ ਮੁਹਾਂਦਰਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨਾਲ ਇੰਨਾ ਮਿਲਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲੇਖਾ ਪਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਗੜ੍ਹੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੀ ਰੁਕ ਗਏ, ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸੁਰੱਖਿਅਤ ਨਿਕਲ ਸਕਣ।

ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਨੇ ਦੁਸ਼ਮਣ ਨੂੰ ਲਲਕਾਰਿਆ: "ਹਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਪੀਰ ਜਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ, ਕੋਈ ਰੋਕ ਸਕਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਰੋਕ ਲਵੋ।"
ਪਿੱਛੇ ਭਾਈ ਸੰਗਤ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਸ਼ੇਰਾਂ ਵਾਂਗ ਲੜੇ ਅਤੇ ਸ਼ਹਾਦਤ ਪ੍ਰਾਪਤ ਕੀਤੀ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਸਾਬਤ ਕਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ ਕਿ ਇੱਕ ਸਿੱਖ ਸੱਚਮੁੱਚ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦਾ ਹੀ ਰੂਪ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ।
