In this weeks video I discover the surprising history of Oban Beach, once the hub of the Atlantic seaplane fleet during World War II. Known as RAF Oban, this coastal base in Scotland played a crucial role in the Battle of the Atlantic, launching flying boats and seaplanes that patrolled against enemy submarines and protected vital shipping routes. Today, Oban is a picturesque seaside town, but during WWII it was a bustling military stronghold with pilots, crews, and aircraft stationed along its shores. In this video, we uncover the hidden wartime history of Oban, exploring how these beaches became a key part of Scotland’s aviation heritage.

This weeks video sees me getting up at 3:30am and a 1.5 hour drive brought me to Auchmithie Beach on Scotland’s east coast to capture a sunrise I’ll never forget. Using long exposures, I smoothed the waves into soft mist and watched the colours transform the seascape. I also explored the old harbour, the dramatic sea stack known as “The Rock”, and a natural sea arch, each adding to the magic of the morning. The reward was unforgettable.
