Beloved Sayyidi Shaykh Nurjan Mirahmadi’s words about the heart as a doorway to Divine reality open a profound window into the spiritual journey of the seeker. The Shaykh teaches that the heart of the believer is the House of Allah ﷻ, as mentioned in the hadith qudsi: “Qalb al-mu’min baytur rabb” (“The heart of the believer is the House of the Lord”). This means that the heart is unlike any other creation—it is uniquely designed to receive, contain, and reflect Divine realities.

While the brain is finite and bound by logic, time, and space, the heart possesses infinite capacity. The Shaykh explains that if we focus only on the intellect, we become limited by the constraints of material thinking. The brain is meant to serve the heart, not to lead it. When the heart is illuminated through contemplation (tafakkur), meditation, and spiritual practices, it becomes the true center of consciousness. The heart then sends its Divine guidance and energy to the brain, which must become obedient to the heart’s spiritual command.

Contemplation and tafakkur are essential for awakening the heart’s potential. By meditating, reciting salawat, and seeking knowledge that glorifies Allah ﷻ and the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the heart’s “brain” is activated. This opens the seeker to realities beyond time and space, allowing them to witness spiritual truths, receive inspiration, and connect to the infinite ocean of Divine Presence. The brain, on its own, can only process what is seen and measured; the heart, however, is a doorway to the unseen, the infinite, and the miraculous.

The Shaykh reminds us that nothing is impossible for the one whose heart is open to Allah ﷻ. The only real limitations are those imposed by the mind. Through spiritual discipline, humility, and sincere connection to the Shaykh, the seeker learns to say “La” (no) to the head and “illAllah” (only Allah) to the heart, in line with the zikr “La ilaha illAllah.” This is the path to true spiritual maturity and the realization of one’s highest purpose.

Their attacks are subtle, multidimensional, and often occur through the six directions—above, below, front, back, right, and left—representing the totality of our existence. These energies aim to lower our spiritual vibration, darken our senses, and distance us from our true spiritual potential.

The Heart: The Divine Gateway

Allah ﷻ declares in the Qur’an, “Wa laqad karamna Bani Adam” (17:70), meaning, “We have certainly honored the children of Adam.” This honor is not merely physical, but spiritual—the heart is the true doorway to Divine realities. Shaykh Nurjan explains that whoever occupies the heart controls the entire being. The heart is a throne for Divine light, and all spiritual practices in the Naqshbandi path are designed to purify and fortify the heart, making it a vessel for angelic energy and Divine presence. The brain, on the other hand, is often a source of limitation, filled with doubts, fears, and memories that shaitan (Satan) manipulates to keep us shackled to negativity.

Negative Energies and Their Influence

Every day, like a bus, we pick up “passengers”—negative energies from our environment, interactions, and even technology. These energies can enter through our five senses, overwhelming our spiritual state and lowering our vibration. Shaykh Nurjan emphasizes that these energies are especially potent in our era, where faith is diminished and external distractions abound. Devices and artificial creations can deplete our energy fields, while natural creations (such as fruits) carry Divine qudra (power) that can strengthen and shield us. The unseen forces attack our senses and try to occupy the heart, but through spiritual practices, we can push them out and invite angelic light within.

Practical Steps for Protection and Elevation

Keep the company of the pious and attend associations of remembrance (zikr), where angelic energy is abundant and negativity is pushed away.
Engage in regular meditation and contemplation (tafakkur), focusing on the heart and seeking Divine light to enter and purify it.
Guard your senses by abstaining from negative sights, sounds, and speech, and fill your heart and mind with positive, sacred energy.
Stay connected to your Shaykh and follow his guidance, as this connection is a shield and a source of continual spiritual support.

The profound spiritual danger that Shaykh Nurjan Mirahmadi (Q) has repeatedly addressed: the danger of labeling hadith as “Da’eef” (weak), is a disrespectful manners, especially when it concerns the blessed Sunnah of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. The Shaykh (Q) teaches that the foundation of our path is adab (manners). If our manners are lacking, even the most correct knowledge becomes a poison, as it is delivered without the fragrance of love and respect for the Prophet ﷺ.

Shaykh Nurjan (Q) warns that in these times, many people use their intellect to question or diminish the value of traditions simply because someone labeled a narration as “weak.” However, the Sahaba (Companions) never questioned the Prophet ﷺ when He ﷺ spoke or acted. Their love was so immense that they would never let even His ﷺ's blessed saliva touch the ground, let alone ignore His ﷺ's words. If the Prophet ﷺ did something, the Companions would rush to act on it out of love and reverence, not debate its validity. The Shaykh (Q) reminds us that if you hear a teaching or a Sunnah of the Prophet ﷺ, your heart should tremble with the desire to act upon it, not to search for a reason to dismiss it.

He (Q) further explains that using the mind to judge the Sunnah or to argue about the status of a hadith is a sign of spiritual disease. This is not the adab of the Sahaba or the Awliya. The real danger lies in the arrogance of thinking our intellect can judge what the Prophet ﷺ brought. Shaykh Nurjan (Q) says: “If anyone learned anything from all our teachings, it is that if one word is in the wrong direction to the respect of Prophet ﷺ, you have no connection with Allah (AJ) at all. Because Allah (AJ) is based on manners.” Shaytan’s trick is to infiltrate the hearts of believers, making them question and come against their own Prophet ﷺ, thus severing their spiritual connection and blessing.

Practical guidance: When you hear a Sunnah or a hadith, especially from the lips of a true Shaykh (Q), receive it with love and humility. Do not let your nafs (ego) or intellect become a barrier. Instead, strive to act on it, or at the very least, hold it with deep respect in your heart. This is the path of the lovers, the path of safety, and the path of immense blessing.

May Allah ﷻ fill your heart with love and adab for Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ, and grant you the wisdom to act with humility and sincerity. May your journey always be guided by the fragrance of the Prophet’s ﷺ mercy and the light of true adab.

The phrase "dunya is a prison" is a profound teaching in the Sufi tradition, beautifully explained by Shaykh Nurjan Mirahmadi. The material world (dunya) is designed to entrap, distract, and ultimately destroy the spiritual aspirations of the seeker. The dunya, by its very nature, is not meant to comfort or heal us; rather, it is a place of testing and tribulation. Our true reality is not of this world, but we are sent here as ambassadors of the heavens, tested in our sincerity and love for Allah ﷻ and His beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

The love of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is the key that frees us from the prison of dunya. The heart of the Prophet ﷺ is with all those who are lovers (‘ashiqeen) of his reality. As the Prophet ﷺ said, “You will be with whom you love” (Muslim 7520). When our hearts are filled with his love, we are drawn to his Muhammadan reality—like a magnet guiding us ever closer to Divine presence. This love becomes a cave of refuge, an oasis in the desert of worldly hardship. Within this spiritual cave, the mercy and protection of Allah ﷻ descends, shielding us from the harms and delusions of dunya.

Practically, this means that as we give up our attachments to worldly things—our time, wealth, and egoic desires—Allah ﷻ replaces that emptiness with the love of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ. The more we empty our hearts of dunya, the more it is filled with Divine love and light. This exchange is not a loss, but a supreme gain, for nothing is ever wasted in Allah’s way. The Prophet’s ﷺ love guides, calibrates, and protects us, helping us to endure the trials of this world with patience and dignity, just as Sayyidina Yusuf (AS) chose the prison over the temptations of dunya, preferring hardship for Allah’s sake over ease in disobedience (Qur’an 12:33).

May Allah ﷻ grant you a heart overflowing with the love of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ, and may that love be your key to freedom from every worldly prison. May your journey be blessed with light, patience, and nearness to the Divine.
