Most motorcycle ankle injuries don’t happen because of speed.
They happen because the ankle is allowed to twist, collapse, or take force it was never built to handle.
Sneakers offer essentially no ankle support. No structure. No protection against rotation or crush forces.
Work boots are better than sneakers — they’re stiffer and cover the ankle — but they’re still not designed for impact, torsion, or sliding on pavement.
Motorcycle boots are built for managing force. They limit ankle rotation, add crush resistance, and spread impact away from the joint.
You don’t need race boots for a coffee run.
But riding in sneakers is gambling with an injury that can permanently change how you walk.
I started on a 50cc Yamaha Zuma scooter (not shown). My first big bike was a BMW G310R. I moved on to a Ducati Monster 937 and now a Ducati Streetfighter V4S. What should I get next?
In general, I recommend starting on smaller, lighter bikes to get the hang of controlling a motorcycle.

Wear boots. Every ride.
