Mario Kart Ride Universal Studios Japan | SuperNintendo World

Mario Kart: Koopa’s Challenge is the headline attraction in Super Nintendo World. The best way to describe this is to imagine you’re plopped right into a Mario Kart race with a mixture of AR (augmented reality) and over-the-top physical sets that deliver a unique experience.

You’ll race other guests through iconic Mario Kart courses, toss shells, spin out of control, and shed a tear, knowing that your childhood has come to life.

Without a doubt in my mind, every person visiting Super Nintendo World wants to experience Mario Kart.

Fun Fact: Bowser is known as Koopa in Japan, hence the name “Koopa’s Challenge.”

Hi Japan

USJ Donkey Kong Country - Super Nintendo World, Universal Studios Japan!

The Universal Studios Japan theme park in Osaka has opened the world's first attraction area based on Nintendo Co.'s popular Donkey Kong game series, seeking to attract more overseas as well as domestic visitors.

The Donkey Kong Country area, which opened Wednesday, expands by 70 percent the park's existing Super Nintendo World area, featuring augmented reality attractions based on iconic characters such as Mario.

For fans of the Donkey Kong Country video games series, the setting should be a satisfying re-creation of a world that originated with the 16-bit Super Nintendo Entertainment System (Super Famicom in Japan) from the early 1990s.

Much like the neighboring area themed on the Super Mario series, the attention to detail in Donkey Kong Country is impressive. From the music — you’ll be hard-pressed to leave without getting “DK Island Swing” stuck in your head — to the decorative crates and barrels that are a staple of the series right up to the giant Golden Temple at the center of the area, USJ’s set designers hit all the right notes here.

In and around the temple is where the main attraction lies: Mine Cart Madness, a faithful re-creation of the signature mine cart levels in the Donkey Kong series. The ride, which features single cars that seat four riders, starts with passengers getting shot out of a comically oversized barrel while suspended above the track, creating the illusion that you’re leaping off the rails — a creative way to pay homage to the source material.

Donkey Kong fans will spot several characters from the series as they travel through the Golden Temple. There are a couple of steeper drops but this is still very much a roller-coaster fit for families: The drops and turns of Mine Cart Madness are unlikely to get the heart of a true roller-coaster enthusiast racing, but it offers enough thrills to satisfy the young and old.

Hi Japan

😃 NEW video! https://youtu.be/g7Dhx2MhkeE
Matsumoto Castle (松本城, Matsumotojō) is one of the most complete and beautiful among Japan's original castles, i.e. the castles whose keeps have survived the post-feudal ages intact. It was built on the plains rather than on a hill or mountain. Matsumoto Castle is unique for having both a secondary donjon and a turret adjoined to its main keep. The castle structures, in combination with their characteristic black wainscoting, give off an air of grandeur and poise.

Matsumotojo's main castle keep and its smaller, second donjon were built from 1592 to 1614. Both these structures were well-fortified as peace was not yet fully achieved at the time. In 1635, when military threats had ceased, a third, barely defended turret and another for moon viewing were added to the castle.

The wooden interior of Matsumoto Castle provides an authentic experience unlike that felt at many other castles rebuilt of ferro-concrete. Interesting features of the castle include steep wooden stairs, openings to drop stones onto invaders, openings for archers, as well as an observation deck at the top floor of the main keep with nice views over the surrounding city.
