How It Works highlight of the day - Mater's Junkyard Jamboree
One of the more mechanically complex and one of my most cited videos, Mater's Junkyard Jamboree is a custom whip/demolition derby ride from Zamperla, maker of many flat rides. If you've been to an amusement park in the last 20 years you'd ridden one of their rides.
Featuring multiple turntables, the very mechanical ride grasps ride vehicles using a gear like setup and an eye shaped wedge in a slot. When it reaches a hand off point it's pushed off to the next table over and over. The ride vehicles also whip riders from left to right using a gas damper. While the concept of whip/demolition derby combined is new the rides they're comprised of/inspired by are from over 100 years ago. Google "Cuddle Up Ride".

Today's How It Works highlight is on Cosmic Rewind, one of the biggest new additions in the last few years. Originally slated to be themed to a planetarium themed space adventure (ala space mountain, but to other planets) Cosmic Rewind took the place of the Universe of Energy, a large 30m long ride and show presentation. The new coaster primarily takes place in a massive show building built behind and across the street from the original building (now used for the queue and stations) launching riders backwards and uphill into a spinning cosmic adventure.
