Before the show, there is the review.
Polimoda's Undergraduate in Fashion Design students are in the middle of their collection reviews, one of the most demanding and defining moments of the final year. An experienced team of teachers and mentors meets with each student to examine their collection closely: the concept, the research, the construction, the direction. They ask the hard questions. They push the work further. And they do it with the kind of care that comes from genuine investment in what each student is trying to build.
This is what fashion education looks like from the inside.

At Polimoda, individual interests and practice are nurtured and refined as part of each student’s creative development.

Victor Brial, final-year Fashion Design student, reflects this through a body of work developed during his Shima Seiki scholarship in knitwear.
Originating from Réunion, an island defined by volcanic landscapes, his perspective is shaped by a strong sense of place that informs his creative approach.

His final-year project explores the idea of a traveller encountering the island as an immersive space. Through this condition, distance becomes a way of reframing perception and experience, influencing how he approaches design.
Within knitwear practice, this translates into a process where observation and lived experience inform material outcomes, positioning knitwear as a direct extension of environment and memory.

The Shima Seiki scholarship provides direct access to advanced knitwear environments, supporting technical development alongside academic practice.

Is Fashion Art?

Fashion occupies a unique position among creative disciplines. It can hold both function and cultural meaning at the same time.

Inspired by a visit to the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art during Copenhagen Fashion Week, fashion business student Aleksandra Popova examines how fashion relates to art, architecture, and cultural value.

From haute couture collections to the growing vintage archive market, garments often move across a spectrum between practical use and symbolic meaning.

The article proposes a framework for understanding fashion not as a choice between art and utility, but as a system capable of negotiating both.
