One morning, Mulla Nasruddin was fixing a small hole in his wall when his neighbor rushed over and said,
“Nasruddin! I need your donkey. It’s very urgent!”
Nasruddin replied calmly,
“I’m sorry, my friend. The donkey is not here today.”
Just as he said that the donkey brayed loudly from inside the stable.
The neighbor crossed his arms and shouted,
“Nasruddin! You liar! Your donkey is right there!”
Nasruddin smiled and replied,
“My dear neighbor, if you trust the donkey’s voice more than mine,
then why did you come to ask me in the first place?”
The neighbor stood speechless, realizing his foolishness.
Moral:

ایک صبح ملا نصرالدین دیوار میں چھوٹا سا سوراخ ٹھیک کر رہے تھے کہ پڑوسی بھاگتا ہوا آیا اور بولا:
“نصرالدین! مجھے آپ کا گدھا چاہیے، بہت ضروری کام ہے!”
نصرالدین نے سکون سے جواب دیا:
“معاف کیجیے، میرا گدھا آج یہاں نہیں ہے۔”
یہ کہتے ہی اصطبل کے اندر سے گدھا زور سے رینکنے لگا۔
پڑوسی نے ہاتھ باندھ کر غصے سے کہا:
“نصرالدین! آپ جھوٹ بول رہے ہیں! گدھا تو یہی ہے!”
نصرالدین نے مسکرا کر کہا:
“پیارے پڑوسی، اگر تمہیں گدھے کی آواز مجھ سے زیادہ سچی لگتی ہے،
تو پھر مجھ سے پوچھنے کیوں آئے تھے؟”
پڑوسی شرمندہ ہو کر خاموش ہوگیا۔
سبق:

Nasruddin smiled and said, “Really? Then let me test your honesty.”
He handed the merchant a small box and said, “Inside this box is a priceless treasure. Guard it carefully and do not open it until I return.”
The merchant agreed. But greed began to whisper in his ear.
“What if the treasure is gold? Jewels? Something worth millions?”
Unable to resist, he opened the box—
and found nothing but a note that said:
“If you cannot resist your own greed, how can you blame others?”
Nasruddin returned, laughed gently, and said,
“Greed makes even the rich feel poor.”

ایک دن ایک لالچی تاجر نے ملا نصرالدین سے شکایت کی،
“لوگ ہمیشہ مجھے دھوکا دینے کی کوشش کرتے ہیں!”
نصرالدین مسکرائے اور بولے:
“واقعی؟ تو پھر میں تمہاری امانت داری پر تھوڑا امتحان لیتا ہوں۔”
انہوں نے تاجر کو ایک چھوٹا سا ڈبہ دیا اور کہا:
“اس میں ایک قیمتی خزانہ ہے۔ اس کی حفاظت کرنا اور جب تک میں واپس نہ آؤں، اسے کھولنا نہیں۔”
تاجر نے وعد کر لیا، مگر لالچ جاگ اٹھا۔
“پتہ نہیں اس میں سونا ہو… جواہرات ہوں… شاید لاکھوں کا خزانہ ہو!”
وہ برداشت نہ کر سکا اور ڈبہ کھول لیا—
اندر صرف ایک پرچی تھی، جس پر لکھا تھا:
“اگر تم اپنی ہی لالچ پر قابو نہیں پا سکتے، تو دوسروں کو کیسے الزام دو گے؟”
