By day, she has worked for over 17 years as a Quality Assurance Auditor in the Analytical Chemistry Department, a career that sharpens her eye for detail and precision. That same discipline translates into her art, where she has been drawing and painting since she could first pick up a brush.
Her work blends intuition with experimentation, exploring expressive forms through mixed media and painting. Silent Scream
Oil
13 x 19 in

This oil painting captures the raw, unfiltered intensity of human emotion at the breaking point. With bold, saturated hues and exaggerated features, the work becomes a visual scream—an embodiment of inner turmoil, release, and defiance. The open mouth is both vulnerable and powerful, symbolizing the struggle to be heard in a world that often silences expression. Through texture and color, I explore the tension between chaos and clarity, turning an intimate moment of anguish into a universal echo of resilience.

Title: "Velvet Reverie"
Created by: Alexia Cross
Medium: Oil
12x12 in canvas

Artist Statement:
This piece is a vivid exploration of theatricality, gender performance, and inner defiance. Using rich oil paint, I built up layers of electric reds, iridescent purples, and piercing greens to create a figure that feels both regal and surreal—caught mid-gesture, like a memory blurred by emotion. The intensity of the gaze and the shadows around the eyes suggest a watchful, intelligent, and transformative presence. Through bold textures and intuitive brushwork, I aimed to express a character who is unapologetically complex—both armor and vulnerability rendered in color. This work invites the viewer into a dreamscape where identity is adorned, not hidden.

Urban Sketch
Created by Alexia Cross
Medium: Ink

Artist Statement:
Ink, with its permanence and clarity, allowed me to emphasize both structure and spontaneity. Every stroke is deliberate, yet expressive—echoing the way cities constantly change yet remain rooted in identity. The energetic palette invites viewers to see beauty not only in the grand architecture but also in the voices painted on its walls.

Through this work, I want to celebrate the visual poetry of urban spaces and honor the way color and line can speak truth, provoke thought, and inspire change.

Refuse to Disappear
Created by: Alexia Cross
Oil on 9x 12 gessoed mixed media paper, graphite, digital lettering and accents.

Artist Statement

This piece explores the duality of identity and the inner conflict faced by individuals navigating a society that often distorts, fragments, or erases their humanity. By splitting the face in half—one side raw and earth-toned, the other vibrant and overlaid with abstract lines—I depict the tension between authenticity and imposed narratives. The blue backdrop, intersected with white bars, evokes confinement, echoing systems that entrap rather than uplift.

The handwritten text, “I don’t want to waste my time become another casualty of society,” is a declaration of resistance and urgency. It reflects a personal and collective cry not to be consumed by systems of oppression, poverty, and racial injustice. The emotional rawness of the paint, combined with collage-like elements and expressive typography, mirrors the chaos and hope that define the fight for self-preservation and freedom.

This work is a visual assertion of agency—a refusal to be silenced or diminished.
