Two weeks ago, my best friend was diagnosed with an exceedingly rare central nervous system cancer, called PNET. It metastasized to her ovary and lymph nodes, and already progressed to Stage 3 at the time of discovery. There are no treatment roadmaps for this cancer subtype. I told her that she might be a celebrity at her hospital because she’s going to be recorded in medical history. Kristie responded, “Main character energy always!! 🤣” That’s my girl.

I created an emergency GoFundMe, and we raised almost 50%—maybe more by the time this is posted. I linked it below. Praise God for mobilizing his Church to pray for and support my precious friend!

However, these past 24 hrs have been unbelievably challenging for Kristie and Phil. Here’s the update from her husband:
- Kristie and I are so overwhelmed by all the support and love we’ve received. We had no idea the support was going to be to this extent and just genuinely amazed at the response.
- Kristie had to go back to the ER last night around 9PM. There was a lot of fluid build up that was causing pain where she couldn’t really walk but she was able to get antibiotics and will be getting a CT scan to better see what’s happening. We went to the ER at MD Anderson (our first appointment is in a few days) and they were able to see us so quickly which we are really grateful for.
- We toured an amazing apartment that we both loved and waiting for the last bits of our application to finalize and we’re hoping this is our home for our stint in Houston.

- For the perfect team of doctors at MD Anderson to be assembled for Kristie
- Supernatural grace during a time where we are both being stretched
- For her Chemotherapy to go well and to be able to start it soon
- More clarity and knowledge from the doctors on this very rare cancer

Hi, friends… I have devastating news: one of my best friends, Kristie Choi, has been diagnosed with an extremely rare and aggressive form of central nervous system cancer, called PNET. Kristie’s exact subtype is even more rare and severe, with less than 100 cases ever being recorded. It had already progressed to stage 3 at the time of discovery, which means that they have to get the best, most effective treatment ASAP because every minute counts. In the span of one weekend, we helped Kristie and her husband uproot their entire lives to move to Houston, where she’ll be receiving aggressive chemotherapy and radiation.

Her first time at the happiest place on Earth! ❤️ So grateful that we get to experience Disney through her eyes! 🥹 Some of these photos look so quintessentially *Disney* lol, like you’re looking at some kind of billboard. Sometimes I forget that our lives can appear flawless on social media, and others might get the wrong idea if they just take a glance. The truth is that we’re just coming out of a tough adjustment period as new parents. The switch from non-parent brain to parent brain flipped our world upside down. Amidst months of broken sleep, new identity crises, and general exhaustion, we just didn’t know how to FURTHER “die to ourselves,” as the Bible instructs, since we already felt dead inside 🤣. Any other parents feel this? Just trying to be real here! But truly, what saved us was our community. No matter what we were struggling with, someone was always able to step in to pull us out of the muck. It takes so much more than just two people to raise children without burning out. It truly, truly takes a village. We are so humbled by the beautiful people who showed up for us, and helped us walk into the new year as a stronger family unit. We love you guys! ❤️🙏🏼

We set up a little DIY baby shower this past weekend and it was the most meaningful time spent with loved ones! 🥹💕 To be honest, we didn’t know the depth of what it meant to have a “village” until I got pregnant. Our family and friends have truly gone above and beyond to show us their care, from dropping off weekly home-cooked meals to helping us clean the house and more. What an act of love! We will never take our community for granted. 🙏🏼 Harper is profoundly blessed with this strong, uplifting circle of loved ones! ❤️
