A Thousand Years of Silla History Travel Route, Enjoying the Sunset with Nature, Yeoju Pasa Fortress

This is a stone fortress built along the ridge of Pasa Mountain. It was first built during the reign of King Pasa, the 5th king of Silla, and it is said that during the Imjin War, the monk general Ui-eom gathered his monk army and rebuilt the fortress. It is a fortress where you can see the plains and hills along the upper reaches of the Namhan River at a glance.

It is 4~5m high and has a circumference of about 1,800m. The fortress walls were built relatively neatly, but the construction techniques differed depending on the period, so the part built during the Three Kingdoms Period and the part renovated during the Joseon Dynasty are clearly distinguished. Inside the fortress, there are two gate sites, one drainage ditch, a well site, and a long pole site. The castle walls are relatively well preserved, and at the site of the South Gate, an octagonal pillar-shaped foundation stone that appears to have been built during the Joseon Dynasty remains, and water still remains at the site of the well.


천년 신라의 역사 여행길, 자연과 함께 노을을 즐길 수 있는 여주 파사성

파사산의 능선을 따라 쌓은 석축산성이다. 신라 제5대 임금 파사왕 때 처음 쌓았고 임진왜란 때 승장(僧將) 의엄(義嚴)이 승군을 모아 성을 수축하였다고 전한다. 남한강 상류의 물줄기를 따라 펼쳐진 평야와 구릉을 한눈에 내다볼 수 있는 요새이다.

높이는 4~5m, 둘레는 1,800m 정도이다. 성벽은 비교적 정연하게 쌓았는데 시기별 축성기법이 달라 삼국시대에 축성된 부분과 조선시대에 개축된 부분이 확연하게 구별된다. 성내에는 성문터 2개소와 배수구 1개소, 우물터, 장대터 등이 남아 있다. 성벽은 비교적 잘 남아 있으며, 남문터에는 조선시대에 세운 것으로 보이는 팔각기둥 모양의 주춧돌이 남아 있고, 우물터에는 지금도 물이 고여 있다.

A thousand-year-old Silla temple full of legends of Wonhyo Daesa and nine dragons, Yeoju Sinreuksa

It is said that Wonhyo founded it during the reign of King Jinpyeong of Silla, but there is no solid evidence. It is famous as the place where Naong Hyegeun stayed in 1376 (the second year of King U’s reign) at the end of Goryeo. It is said to have been a large temple with over 200 rooms. In 1472 (the third year of King Seongjong’s reign), it was designated as Yeongneung Wonchal and called Boeunsa.

There are several theories about the origin of the name Sinreuksa. One is that “Mireuk (referring to Hyegeun) or Hyegeun stopped the dragon horse with a magical bridle,” and the other is that “During the reign of King Gojong of Goryeo, a dragon horse appeared in a village across the river and was so ferocious that people could not catch it. At that time, Indang Daesa stepped forward and grabbed the reins, and the horse became docile, so he subdued the horse with his divine power, and the temple was named Sinreuksa.”

And since the Goryeo Dynasty, it was also called Byeokjeol, which originated from the multi-story brick pagoda on the east platform within the temple grounds, which was built with bricks.


원효대사와 9마리 용의 전설이 가득한 천년 신라의 사찰, 여주 신륵사

신라 진평왕 때 원효가 창건하였다고 하나 확실한 근거는 없다. 고려 말인 1376년(우왕 2) 나옹 혜근이 머물렀던 곳으로 유명한데, 200여 칸에 달하는 대찰이었다고 하며, 1472년(조선 성종 3)에는 영릉 원찰로 삼아 보은사라고 불렀다.

신륵사로 부르게 된 유래는 몇 가지 설이 전해지고 있다. 그 하나는 “미륵(혜근을 가리킴)이, 또는 혜근이 신기한 굴레로 용마를 막았다”는 것이고, 다른 하나는 “고려 고종 때 건너마을에서 용마가 나타나, 걷잡을 수 없이 사나우므로 사람들이 붙잡을 수가 없었는데, 이 때 인당대사가 나서서 고삐를 잡자 말이 순해졌으므로, 신력으로 말을 제압하였다 하여 절 이름을 신륵사라고 했다”는 것이다.

그리고 고려 때부터 벽절이라 불려지기도 하였는데, 이는 경내의 동대 위에 있는 다층전탑을 벽돌로 쌓은 데서 유래한 것이다.

A traditional place to take a walk while taking a tour of Joseon history, Namhansanseong Fortress Wall Trail

It is generally known as a mountain fortress built to defend Hanyang, the capital city of Joseon, along with Bukhansanseong Fortress, but recent excavation results have confirmed that the fortress walls and building sites built in the mid-8th century were discovered, so it is presumed that it was the old site of Silla Jujangseong Fortress.

During the Joseon Dynasty, Namhansanseong Fortress was built around the main peak, Cheongnyangsan Mountain, which is 497.9m above sea level, with Yeonjubong Peak (467.6m) to the north, Mangwolbong Peak (502m) and Beolbong Peak (515m) to the east, and several peaks to the south. The outer side of the fortress wall is steep, while the inner side is gentle, making it advantageous for defense but difficult for enemies to approach. The three outer walls, including Bongamseong (蜂巖城), Hanbongseong (漢峰城), and Sinnamseong (新南城), and five outer walls were also connected to form a solid defensive network. There were many facilities and buildings inside the walls and the castle, but now, the east, west, and south gate towers, Jangdae (將臺), Dondae (墩臺), Bo (堡), Nu (壘), Ammun (壘), and wells, as well as the defense facilities, government offices, and military training facilities remain.

Namhansanseong was newly registered as a World Cultural Heritage at the UNESCO General Assembly held in Doha, Qatar in June 2014 due to its high recognition of historical and cultural value.


조선의 역사 여행, 산책하며 걷기 좋은 전통의 고장 남한산성 성벽길

일반적으로 북한산성(北漢山城)과 함께 조선의 도성인 한양의 방어를 위하여 쌓은 산성으로 알려져 있으나 최근 발굴조사 결과, 8세기 중반에 조성된 성벽과 건물터 등이 확인되어, 신라 주장성(晝長城)의 옛터였을 것으로 추정되고 있다.

조선시대 남한산성은 주봉인 해발 497.9m의 청량산을 중심으로 북쪽으로는 연주봉(467.6m), 동쪽으로는 망월봉(502m)과 벌봉(515m), 남쪽으로도 여러 봉우리를 연결하여 성벽을 쌓았다. 성벽의 바깥쪽은 경사가 급한데 비해 안쪽은 경사가 완만하여, 방어에 유리하면서도 적의 접근은 어려운 편이다. 봉암성(蜂巖城), 한봉성(漢峰城), 신남성(新南城) 등 3개의 외성과 5개의 옹성도 함께 연결되어 견고한 방어망을 구축하였다. 성벽과 성 안에는 많은 시설물과 건물이 있었지만, 지금은 동·서·남문루와 장대(將臺)·돈대(墩臺)·보(堡)·누(壘)·암문·우물 등의 방어 시설과 관청, 군사훈련 시설 등이 남아 있다.

남한산성의 역사·문화적 가치가 높게 인정되어 2014년 6월 카타르 도하에서 개최된 유네스코 총회에서 세계문화유산으로 신규 등재되었다.

A place full of affection filled with various old memories, Dongmyo Flea Market in Seoul

A market with about 600 stalls in front of Dongmyo in Seoul. It is the site of an old market that dates back to the Joseon Dynasty. There is a story that when Queen Jeongsun, wife of King Danjong, was expelled from the palace and her life became difficult, women created a market selling vegetables to help her. Because of this, there were many women who peddled and sold street vendors here at one time, so it was also called the Women’s Market and Janggeori.

Dongmyo Flea Market began to form as merchants gathered in earnest in the 1980s. In June 1983, when a large art collection shopping center was established in Janghanpyeong, many stores moved there, and secondhand stores naturally gathered here, leading to the current situation.

The products handled here range from antiques to used furniture, home appliances, watches, jewelry, pianos, cameras, various machines, old books, records, and tools, and there are over 1,000 stores. In particular, the current appearance was created when merchants from the Hwanghak-dong flea market, who lost their places of business due to the Cheonggyecheon restoration project from 2003 to 2005, flocked to the area.


다양한 옛 추억의 물품이 가득한 정이 넘치는 곳, 서울 동묘벼룩시장

서울 동묘 앞에 약 600여 개의 좌판이 모여 이룬 시장이다. 조선 시대부터 시작된 옛 장터 자리로 단종의 비 정순왕후(定順王后)가 궁궐에서 쫓겨나 생활이 곤궁해지자 여인들이 채소를 파는 시장을 만들어 정순왕후를 도왔다는 이야기가 전해진다. 때문에 한때는 이곳에서 행상과 노점을 하는 여인네들이 많아 여인시장이라고도 불리었고, 장거리(場巨里)라고도 하였다.

동묘 벼룩시장은 1980년대부터 본격적으로 상인들이 모이며 상권이 형성됐다. 1983년 6월 장한평에 고미술품 집단 상가가 조성되면서 많은 점포가 그곳으로 옮겨가자, 이 자리에 중고품 만물상들이 자연스럽게 모여들면서 현재에 이르고 있다.

이곳에서 취급하는 상품은 골동품을 비롯하여 중고 가구, 가전제품, 시계, 보석, 피아노, 카메라 및 각종 기계, 고서(古書), 레코드 판, 공구류에 이르기까지 다양하며 점포 수만도 1천여 개에 달한다. 특히 2003년~2005년 추진된 청계천 복원 공사로 장사할 터를 잃은 황학동 벼룩시장 상인들이 몰리면서 현재의 모습을 갖추었다.

유구천 1km 구간에 수국 약 22종, 20만송이를 심은 중부권 최대 수국 정원이다. 에나멜수국, 목수국 등 다양한 수국을 만나볼 수 있으며 포토존 곳곳에서 인생샷 촬영이 가능하다. 또한 능수벚나무, 작약, 수선화 등 계절 꽃이 4계절 내내 피어 있어 수국과 함께 관람이 가능하다.

During the Joseon Dynasty, the state-sanctioned market, Chilpae Market in the Seosomun area, and Baeogae Market in Baeogae near Heunginjimun were considered the three major markets in Seoul. Chilpae Market and Baeogae Market were greatly activated as private markets in connection with the development of commerce in the 18th century, linked to Nuwonjeom and Songpa Market around Hanyang.

With the opening of the port, Chinese and Japanese merchants quickly took over Seoul's commercial district, and after the Sino-Japanese War, Japanese merchants dominated Seoul's markets. In response, in 1905, Koreans pooled their capital and established Gwangjang Corporation based on the former Baeogae Market. Since then, Dongdaemun Market, operated by Gwangjang Corporation, has established itself as a representative market in Seoul along with Namdaemun Market during the Japanese colonial period.

After the Korean War, Dongdaemun Market grew as a market centered on relief supplies and US military supplies. In the early 1960s, as the size of Dongdaemun Market grew, the market was separated and changed into the current Gwangjang Market form. Gwangjang Market became active with lumber, relief goods, and food, and in 2010, it changed its name from Gwangjang Market to Jongno Gwangjang Market.

조선시대에는 국가에서 허가한 시전, 서소문 일대에 있던 칠패시장, 흥인지문 일대의 배오개에 있던 배오개시장이 서울의 3대 시장으로 꼽혔다. 칠패시장과 배오개시장은 18세기 상업의 발달과 맞물려 한양 주변의 누원점, 송파장 등과 연계해 민간 시장으로 크게 활성화되었다.

개항과 더불어 중국과 일본의 상인들이 재빠르게 서울의 상권을 장악했고, 청일전쟁 이후 일본 상인들이 서울의 시장을 지배했다. 이에 대응하기 위해 1905년 과거 배오개시장이 있던 곳을 근거지로 한국인들이 자본을 모아서 광장주식회사가 설립되었다. 그 이후 광장주식회사가 운영하는 동대문시장은 일제강점기 때 남대문시장과 함께 서울의 대표 시장으로 자리매김했다.

한국전쟁 이후 동대문시장은 구호물자와 미군 물자 중심으로 시장을 키웠다. 1960년대 초반 동대문시장의 규모가 커지면서 시장이 분리되었고 현재의 광장시장 형태로 바뀌었다. 광장시장은 포목과 구제 상품, 먹을거리 등을 중심으로 활성화되었고, 2010년에는 광장시장에서 종로 광장시장으로 이름을 바꾸었다.

Walking with Nature as Your Companion, Jaraseom Namdo Full of Beautiful Flower Gardens

Jaraseom, which was created in the Bukhangang River in 1943 when the Cheongpyeong Dam was built, is located about 800m away from Namiseom Island in a straight line. It was named ‘Jaraseom’ because it is overlooked by a ‘hill that looks like a jara.’ Jaraseom, which consists of four islands: Dongdo, Seodo, Jungdo, and Namdo, also has leisure and ecological park facilities. In the Seodo area where the auto camping site is located, there is a filming site for the drama [Iris], in Jungdo, there is an ecological cultural park with a lawn square over 100m in diameter, and at the western end of Jaraseom Camping Site, there is a natural ecological theme park called ‘Ihwawon (二和園)’. Jaraseom is famous for camping, but it is also known as the place where the Jaraseom International Jazz Festival, which has been held since 2004, is held.

The Jaraseom Flower Festa is a flower festival held every spring (May-June) and fall (September-October) on the southern island of Jaraseom. With the theme of “Flowers floating on the Bukhan River, blooming healing and happiness,” flower gardens are created by spring and fall theme, and performances, exhibitions, and experience programs, as well as local agricultural and specialty product sales booths and pet playgrounds, are operated.


자연과 함께 벗 삼아 걷는 자라섬 남도에 가득 찬 아름다운 꽃 정원

1943년 청평댐(淸平)이 건설되면서 북한강(北漢江)에 생긴 자라섬은 남이섬과 직선거리로 800m정도에 위치해 있다. ‘자라처럼 생긴 언덕’이 바라보고 있는 섬이라 하여 ‘자라섬’이라는 이름을 얻었다. 동도, 서도, 중도, 남도 등 4개 섬으로 이뤄진 자라섬에는 레저 및 생태공원 시설도 들어서고 있다. 오토캠핑장이 위치한 서도 일원에는 드라마 [아이리스] 촬영장이, 중도에는 지름 100m가 넘는 잔디광장을 갖춘 생태문화공원이, 자라섬캠핑장 서단에는 자연생태테마파크 ‘이화원(二和園)’이 조성되어 있다. 자라섬은 캠핑으로도 유명하지만 2004년부터 열리고 있는 자라섬국제재즈페스티벌이 열리는 곳으로도 알려져 있다.

자라섬 꽃 페스타는 매년 봄(5~6월), 가을(9~10월) 자라섬 남도에서 개최되는 꽃 축제이다. '북한강에 띄운 꽃, 피어나는 힐링과 행복'을 주제로 봄, 가을 테마별 꽃 정원이 조성되며 공연·전시·체험 프로그램과 지역 농특산물 판매부스, 반려동물 놀이터 등이 운영된다.

Anseong's hidden beauty, a great walk along the lake, Geumgwang Lake Park Du-jin Circular Trail, Susukjeong

Completed in September 1965, Geumgwang Lake is a [V] shaped valley lake that is popular for ice fishing and ice fishing in the winter. It is conveniently located next to the road, and both platform and coastal fishing are good. During the spring spawning season, large quantities of crucian carp are caught in the upper reaches of the aquatic plants. In the summer, the middle and lower reaches are more popular than the upper reaches, and it is easy to move to the point.

Anseong Geumgwang Lake is a place to enjoy fishing, but many people also visit for the purpose of a walk, as there is a well-constructed deck trail around the lake. Geumgwang Lake is the destination of the Gyeonggi Waterway Anseong Course 40, one of the Gyeonggi Circular Trails. The trail from Susukjeong to Cheongnokjeol and Hyesanjeong is called the Park Du-jin Literature Trail, so you can see the beautiful lake scenery and the history of literature.


안성의 숨어있는 비경, 호수 따라 산책하기 좋은 금광호수 박두진 둘레길, 수석정

1965년 9월에 준공된 금광호수는 [V] 자 계곡형 호수로서 물낚시와 얼음낚시가 잘 되어 겨울철 빙어 낚시터로 많이 찾는 곳이다. 도로에 인접해 교통이 편리하고, 좌대, 연안 낚시 모두 좋다. 봄철 산란기에는 최상류 수초 밭에서 떡붕어 월척이 대량으로 낚인다. 여름철에는 최상류보다는 중류와 하류에서 호황을 보이며 포인트 이동이 쉽다.

안성 금광호수는 낚시를 즐기러 오는 곳이긴 하지만 호수 주변으로 데크길도 잘 조성되어 있어 산책을 위한 목적으로 찾는 이들도 많다. 금광호수는 경기 둘레길 중 경기 물길 안성 40코스의 도착점으로, 수석정부터 청록뜰과 혜산정에 이르는 길은 박두진 문학길로 조성되어 있어 아름다운 호수의 풍경과 함께 문학사도 살펴볼 수 있다.
