Auburn Calloway hijacked Federal Express Flight 705 in an attempt to collect insurance money, but despite sustaining serious injuries, the crew stopped him, landed safely in Memphis, and he was arrested.
Raimundo Nonato hijacked VASP Flight 375, driven by anger over Brazil’s economic deterioration and planning to carry out a terrorist attack, but through the captain’s unbelievable response he was barely subdued, and the aircraft landed safely at Santa Genoveva Int'l Airport.
Kim Sang-tae, after reading articles about the 1969 hijacking of a Korean Air YS-11 and foolishly deciding to defect to North Korea, boarded a Korean Air Lines Fokker F-27 flying from Sokcho to Gimpo Int'l Airport. He was shot dead, but a trainee pilot seated behind the cockpit sacrificed his life, and the aircraft made an emergency landing on the Gangwon coast, allowing all other passengers to survive.
These three incidents all represent the bitter defeat of the hijackers and miracles brought about by the flight crews.
