Quetta Gladiators’ left-arm pacer Mohammad Amir disclosed his brief conversation with Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam during their sides’ Pakistan Super League (PSL) 9 clash on Sunday.

The incident occurred in the third over of Peshawar Zalmi’s run chase when Amir bowled a short-pitched delivery to Babar, who failed to get any bat on it and went to wicketkeeper Sarfaraz Ahmed.

Meanwhile, while speaking at the post-match press conference, Amir was asked to share his conversation with Babar after the steamy bouncer.

ā€œThe instance you highlighted was regarding the bouncer which he said that it went quickly and couldn’t understand,ā€ Amir replied to the question.

ā€œHe is a good player but my role has always been to pick wickets of the top batter,ā€ stated Amir.

Pakistan team management forcefully included former captain of the Pakistan Cricket Team,Ā Babar Azam, in the 5th T20 against New Zealand. Despite his reluctance to play, they included him in the playing XI for the match.
Babar Azam wanted to take a break from the fifth T20I match. Despite doubts about his fitness, the cricket star found himself forced into the playing eleven.

Babar wanted a young talent to snatch the spotlight with Pakistan already behind in the series. Yet, to his initial disappointment, the team management shoved him back into the playing eleven. New Zealand had won the first four T20Is and were looking for a whitewash.

In the match, Babar was visibly struggling with his injury and even dropped a catch. After being pushed to bat down the order, Babar Azam managed to contribute only 13 runs from 24 balls. He also didn’t field much. Remarkably, Pakistan won the match by 42 runs, bowling New Zealand out for 92 and avoiding a clean sweep in the series.

According to Cricket Pakistan’s report, Babar Azam mentioned that he was struggling with a groin injury, and that’s why he wouldn’t play in this final match at Christchurch. However, despite his condition, the team management decided to field him.

Sources close to Babar revealed that the injury was not as serious as it seemed, and Babar was willing to rest, especially considering Pakistan had already lost the series. Additionally, Babar had the idea of giving a chance to a young player in his place.

It’s worth mentioning that Mohammad Hafeez, the director of the Pakistan cricket team, had held the players entirely responsible for the defeats on the New Zealand tour. Hafeez stated that the players were not fully focused on their game, leading to their defeat.

In a post-match interview, Babar Azam however expressed his gratitude for the opportunity. He acknowledged the team management’s decision and emphasized the need for a collective effort to improve the team’s performance in future matches.

Babar Azam appeared to regain form in the New Zealand series becoming the highest run scorer for Pakistan. He scored 213 runs in five matches including three half-centuries. After receiving his NOC from PCB, Babar is currently in Bangladesh, participating in the BPL.
