Hey everyone!

Many of you are probably wondering why I have not uploaded in a while. The short answer is: burn out.

I'm not here to complain about my job, I love cubing and creating videos, which is why I've been able to keep going for 6 years and never run out of things I want to share with you guys. But as you can imagine, doing this for 6 years nonstop is exhausting. With a job like Youtube, it can be hard to actually stop thinking about my job and fully relax, so I've taken a much needed break from it.

I didn't expect to take 2 months off, but I guess that's what I needed to feel like I'm ready to give it my all again. I'm sorry I have let some of you down by not saying anything and disappearing.

Hey guys! I want to share an important memory that stuck with me since the beginning of my journey on Youtube.

Some of you may remember, when I first uploaded videos, I never showed my face. And when I did show my face, a lot of you were really surprised to find out that I was Chinese.

I mostly grew up in Canada, and my family is from China. But they still did a good job teaching me English, and all about western culture, so that I could fit in and make friends with my school mates. I had a bit of an accent, but I cared so much about fitting in that I trained it out of myself. And now, when I read a Chinese cube name to you guys, I google translate it first to know how to read it.

When I was young, I went too far in "correcting" myself to match the culture around me, when there was nothing wrong with the culture I came from. Because of that, now I'm so un-Chinese that I sometimes find it difficult to relate to people who are Chinese.

My grandma lived with me as well, but she never learned English, so she was the only person in my life who was really trying to keep me rooted in Chinese culture. I love my grandma, but I remember sometimes having issues with her because of the way she did things, and because of the gaps in how we communicated, and the differences in how we understood the world. I wish I had done a better job trying to understand her, and embrace what her culture and perspective could offer me. Instead, I tried so hard to keep myself western.

My friend Daniel is working on a children's book, called "Why is Grandma so Weird?", that will show children the value in connecting with the culture that they came from.

ALSO I am not being paid to make this post, and I usually try not to promote things unrelated to cubing, but this feels important to me. So check it out, and support the project if you believe in it! I don't live with my grandma anymore, but I still drive out to visit her every week. Family is important!

How easy/hard has it been to learn to solve it? Did you expect that?
And for the experienced cubers, what is an important piece of advice you wish you knew when you were first learning to solve the cube?
