Friday night on KEWL, we’re playing some of the best trigger hits from the last SNL.
A little bit of this, a little bit of that, and a whole lot of sounds that earned a second trip to the studio. If you were there live, you already know… if you missed it, now’s your chance to hear some of the standouts cleaned up and dropped into the Friday mix where they belong.

🎙️ Sunday Night Hang Out. Live Trigger Lab for the KEWL Sound Deck

This Sunday night we’re opening the studio doors and building new sounds for the KEWL Sound Deck, live.

No script.
No plan.
Just microphones, random objects, and a room full of curious sound explorers.

We’ll be experimenting with things like lid clicks, cardboard textures, plastic wrap, glue stick rubbing, and whatever other strange little noises we can find around the studio. Some sounds might end up becoming part of future KEWL broadcasts, and some might just exist for the moment, which honestly is half the fun.

If you enjoy ASMR, sounds for sleep, field recording, or just watching weird audio experiments happen in real time, this is your kind of Sunday night.

Bring your headphones, jump into the chat, and help guide the session. Sometimes the best triggers come from something someone in the chat suggests trying.

Think of it like a late-night radio station control room, except the listeners are sitting right there with the engineer while the sounds are being created.

So grab a comfortable chair, turn the lights down low, and come hang out while we build the next KEWL sounds together.

Tonight we’re opening something new around here, the KEWL Request Line.

You can now send in a recorded request for the show.

Just record yourself calmly saying your name and the sound, trigger, or relaxing moment you’d like to hear recreated. Take your time and keep it slow and laid back… like you’re calling a late-night radio station.

Recordings must be 90 seconds or less, and you can send them through the KEWL Request Line here:

From time to time we may also ask a question on the request line, things like your most relaxing experience, a favorite sound, or even something fun like a Valentine’s pickup line. Studio L7 ASMR

Tonight on KEWL we’re letting the tide handle the mixing board.

I’ve been sitting on some ocean recordings that deserved their night. Part of tonight’s sound comes from the shoreline in Kaanapali, Hawaii, where the waves roll in slow and steady like nature’s white-noise machine. The other half comes from the coast in Monterey, California, where the surf has a slightly deeper rhythm and that cool Pacific night air feeling.

I blended the two together and layered in a few traditional ASMR triggers along the way, some gentle tapping, light textures, and a couple quiet surprises that drift in and out like waves hitting the shore.

No rush.
No hype.
Just water, sound, and a calm place to sit for a while.

If you’re dealing with insomnia, winding down after a long day, or just want a peaceful background while you relax, tonight’s mix should do the trick.

Lights down, headphones on, and let the ocean take it from here.

Studio L7 ASMR

Alright, folks, a quick behind-the-scenes note from the studio tonight.

I am posting a one-off video this week, talking about something that comes up from time to time: sponsorships and brand deals.

Short version of the story, everything you see in my videos, from microphones to recorders to cameras, is gear I bought and use for real work. I’m a working photographer and sound nerd, so if a company paid me to talk about the gear I’m actively using, it wouldn’t exactly be an unbiased opinion, would it?

So here’s the standing rule around here:

No sponsored gear videos.
No “this microphone changed my life” sales pitch.

If I like something, I’ll just link it in the description so you can look it up yourself. I do get a small commission from that.

Now… coffee shops, cool places to stay, roadside diners, and interesting locations where we capture sounds? That’s a different animal. Those experiences might wander into the channel someday because they’re part of the adventure.

Anyway, I figured I’d be transparent about how I handle that side of things.

This is what the Hang Out looks like with the lights on. 👀🎛️

No mood lighting. No shadows. No “radio magic.” Just cables, foam, faders, and a suspicious amount of microphones pointed at one human.

When the studio lights come up, it’s less mysterious late-night broadcast booth… and more “organized chaos inside a padded box.” There’s the mixing board with all its tiny tensioned knobs. The iPads running chat and monitoring. The camera staring me down. Three mics like they’re waiting for a panel discussion that never happens.

And yes… the cup is still there. Always.

This is the real factor version of the Hang Out — the behind-the-sound version. The part you don’t always see when we’re in low light, letting the faders glide and the rain roll in.

It’s not glamorous. It’s not minimal. It’s not aesthetic Pinterest studio goals.

It’s functional. It’s layered. It’s lived in.

And honestly… I wouldn’t change it.
