Katherine Olson | Rose Waterhause

I am Katherine Olson — a survivor, a storyteller, and an artist. Out of captivity, I created the name Rose Waterhause — water for healing, gentleness, and renewal. From love, I was also given the name Phoenix Rose — fire for resilience, rebirth, and rising from the ashes. These names hold both sides of my story: water and fire, renewal and rebirth, gentleness and strength.

Even in captivity I carried a camera. Photography became resistance — small, stolen moments that kept my creative fire alive. Today every image is proof that life is more than survival, that beauty persists in both the vast and the intimate.

You can find my work under both Katherine Olson and Rose Waterhause.

From ashes to light, from captivity to creativity — through my lens, I rise. 🌹🔥📸

PRINT OF THE WEEK: Watcher at the Edge
From my Freedom Rising collection.

This image lives in the space between motion and stillness — a moment of alert presence, quiet awareness, and balance before flight.

It’s a reminder that not all power announces itself loudly.

Available as a fine-art print this week. Link to my Etsy shop in bio.

They said:

"Hurt people hurt people."

I answered:

Not all hurt people hurt people.
Some spend their lives making sure no one else
feels what they did.
Some break cycles.
Some build safe spaces.
Some turn pain into purpose.
Hurt people don't just hurt people.
Hurt people heal people too.

The last six weeks have been such an inspiration to me to continue to flourish as a photographer and to help others to find their way to a life they can truly enjoy.
