FATAL FRAME II: Crimson Butterfly is widely considered one of the greatest survival horror games ever made — a masterpiece of Japanese horror that has haunted players since 2003. No guns. No action hero. Just twin sisters Mio and Mayu Amakura, an ancient cursed village, and a single camera that can do what no weapon can: capture the impossible.


And at 7 pm EST, March 11th, 2026, it has been completely remade from the ground up by Team Ninja for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.


We're not talking a remaster. We're talking a full remake — rebuilt graphics, reworked gameplay, an overhauled over-the-shoulder camera that makes every ghost encounter feel terrifyingly personal, brand new side stories, brand new locations, and even a brand new ending.


The series' signature system — repelling wraiths by photographing them with the Camera Obscura — returns, allowing for a richer use of the camera in both exploration and combat. And in a heartbreaking new touch, players can now hold hands with Mayu, allowing you to feel the sisters' bond more deeply throughout the story.

New locations include the Umbral Mound, an ominous burial site hidden within dense bamboo groves, and the candlelit hall of Eikado Temple, with its pair of twin statues tied together by sacred cords.
