Lecarla (Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire, United Kingdom)
Lecarla were a five-piece alternative/melodic rock band who emerged from Milton Keynes and became a familiar name on the UK unsigned circuit. Built around strong live shows rather than hype cycles, they gained attention through touring, the kind of band you heard about because someone said “you need to see them live.”
Frontwoman Lizzy Dent gave the band a clear identity and stage presence that press and fans consistently picked up on. Lecarla focused on gigging local MK venues and wider UK shows, building a reputation the old-school way. Interviews and features in alternative/indie press put them on radars beyond their hometown without major-label backing. They were a textbook example of how bands in the late-2000s/early-2010s used YouTube, social media, and grassroots touring to grow.
Members:
• Lizzy Dent (Lead Vocals)
• Joe Alfano (Lead Guitar)
• Hannah Whitmarsh (Rhythm Guitar)
• Nikki Brightman (Bass)
• Steve North (Drums)
Legacy:
Lecarla are remembered as part of Milton Keynes’ active rock ecosystem during a time when local scenes relied heavily on live rooms and community support. They helped reinforce the visibility of female-fronted rock acts on the regional circuit and showed how far commitment to touring and performance could take an unsigned band.

A+ Dropouts

A+ Dropouts (Huntington Beach, California, United States)
A+ Dropouts were a pop-punk/pop-rock band that emerged around 2009. What set them apart immediately was their age: the band formed while the members were still in school, turning teenage perspective and raw ambition into their calling card. Fronted by Cheska Zaide (lead vocals, guitar, primary songwriter), A+ Dropouts combined upbeat pop-punk energy with accessible pop hooks and an earnest, youthful voice.
Strong live reputation: known for energetic, confident performances despite their young age. Festival & regional exposure: appeared at festivals and well-known Southern California venues, including major OC stages.
Members:
• Cheska Zaide — lead vocals, guitar, songwriter (core and most visible member).
• Rotating lineup — guitars, bass, and drums shifted over time, a common reality for young touring bands as members grew up and moved on.
A+ Dropouts became a recognizable example of a DIY teenage band done right: They showed that young musicians from a local scene could reach festival stages and national attention without major-label backing. Their success helped normalize the idea of teenagers touring regionally while still in school. The project served as a launchpad most notably for Cheska Zaide, who continued pursuing music beyond the band.
Artists they have shared the stage with include national acts such as Public Enemy, Cage the Elephant, Sister Hazel, Forever the Sickest Kids, The Ready Set, A Rocket to the Moon, The Summer Set, Gloriana, P.O.D., and Brian "Head" Welch (formerly of Korn)
Legacy:
While A+ Dropouts didn’t evolve into a long-running mainstream act, their impact lives on as: A standout chapter in Orange County’s youth pop-punk history. Proof that timing, energy, and online visibility could propel a local teen band far beyond garage shows.

Kiss Corona

Kiss Corona (Nottingham, United Kingdom)
In the late 2000s and early 2010s, Nottingham had a thriving guitar-band underground, and Kiss Corona were right in the middle of it. A four-piece pop-punk/pop-rock band, they became known locally for sharp melodies, stacked vocal harmonies, and energetic live shows that fit perfectly into the UK’s then-booming alternative scene.
Members:
• Phil (Vocals & Guitar)
• Steve (Vocals & Bass)
• Luke (Lead Guitar)
• Alex (Drums)
Together, they delivered polished, chorus-heavy songs that drew comparisons to bands like You Me At Six and Kids In Glass Houses catchy, upbeat, and built for live rooms rather than bedrooms. Regularly played key Nottingham venues including Rock City and The Junction, establishing themselves as a dependable draw on the local circuit.
Supported touring acts (including Twenty Twenty), helping them reach audiences beyond their immediate fanbase. Received strong local press coverage and were named Kerrang! Magazine local heroes in 2010, a notable badge of recognition for a regional band at the time.
Legacy:
Today, Kiss Corona stand as a snapshot of a specific moment in UK alternative music, the MySpace-to-Kerrang! era, when regional scenes mattered and bands grew through shows, word of mouth, and community support. For Nottingham gig-goers of that time, they remain a familiar and fondly remembered name.

Sources North
Link to the release:
youtube.com/playlist?list=PLq...
Sources North (Montreal, Quebec, Canada)
Sources North were a indie band active during the late 2000s, emerging squarely from the MySpace era. Unsigned and self-driven, the band operated in a time when online profiles doubled as press kits, show flyers, and community hubs and their presence captures that moment perfectly.
Members:
• Audrey Benoualid (Vocals)
• Laurence Mauricio (Guitar)
• Ben Cardilli (Vocals & Sequencing)
Live Members:
• Matt Bernstein (Drums)
• Alex Boisselle (Bass)
Sources North pulled from a wide palette of influences, including Thrice, The Postal Service, Dredg, Iron & Wine, Metric, M83, Justice, and The Fall of Troy. The result was likely an intersection of indie rock, electronic textures, and experimental pop/rock, shaped by both emotional songwriting and atmospheric production.
Their own tongue-in-cheek description: “Sounds like: long walks on broken glass.”
Based in Montreal, a city known for its fertile indie and experimental music scene. Active primarily around 2009–2010, as indicated by MySpace activity
Built an audience organically, amassing thousands of profile views and friends. Fully unsigned, relying on grassroots promotion and live shows.
Legacy:
Sources North never crossed into mainstream press or major industry databases, but that’s part of their story. They represent the hundreds of serious, creative bands who shaped local scenes and online music culture before streaming platforms took over. Their digital footprint now stands as a snapshot of a formative era when discovery happened through profile pages, comment sections, and word of mouth.
Sources North are a reminder that musical legacy isn’t only about fame or charts. Sometimes it’s about presence, participation, and place being part of a living scene, contributing sound and energy to a city, and leaving behind a trace of a time when indie music lived online in a very different way.

Burnham

Burnham (Arlington, Vermont, United States)
Burnham was an American pop/rock band made up of three brothers who turned family jam sessions into a nationally recognized career. What sets them apart isn’t just their age at breakthrough, but the fact that they grew up playing together developing real chemistry long before labels and showcases entered the picture.
Members:
• Forrest Emerson Burnham (Lead vocals, rhythm guitar, keyboards)
The band’s frontman and unmistakable voice. Charismatic, confident, and emotionally direct, Forrest became the focal point once it was clear the band needed a singer and never looked back.
• Alex Burnham (Lead guitar, backing vocals)
Often described as the band’s “riff-meister,” Alex anchors Burnham’s sound with melodic guitar work and classic rock instincts.
• Andre Burnham (Bass, keyboards, backing vocals)
The organizer and musical director of the group. Andre frequently handled rehearsals, arrangements, and lyrical structure, balancing creativity with discipline.
• David Wearn (Drummer during live performances)
From Living Room to Label. Burnham’s story starts in Arlington, Vermont, where the brothers converted their family living room into a jam space and played for hours every day. Music was already part of their DNA:
Their mother studied opera at UCLA.
Their father regularly shared his rock record collection with them.
They began learning instruments at a local music school, initially without a vocalist. When Forrest stepped up to the mic, everything clicked. Years of local shows and relentless practice led to connections with New York based producers. After a standout showcase in NYC, Island Def Jam executives signed the band on the spot reportedly unwilling to let them leave the room without a deal.
Their inspirations span The Beatles, Coldplay, Led Zeppelin, and modern pop-rock blending timeless songwriting with contemporary polish. Unlike many young acts, Burnham played their own instruments and co-wrote their material, giving their songs authenticity and cohesion.
Signed to Island Def Jam while still teenagers. Opened for Justin Bieber on the My World Tour, performing for massive audiences early in their career. Earned recognition in major songwriting competitions. Collaborated with high-profile producers and songwriters across pop and rock.
Legacy:
Burnham’s legacy lies in showing how far organic beginnings can go. From living-room rehearsals to major tours, they embody the idea that great bands are built over time, not overnight or, as the band themselves once hinted
"Make music that lasts, and reach as many people as possible."

Juneau
Link to the release:

Juneau (Madison, Wisconsin, United States)
Juneau was a pop-rock band that captured the spirit of the local indie scene with catchy melodies, polished songwriting, and energetic live shows. Active during the mid-to-late 2000s, the band blended accessible pop hooks with rock sensibilities, aiming squarely at songs that connected instantly with audiences.
Members:
• Chris Aalid (Vocals, Guitar)
• Chris Castrova (Guitar)
• Joey McGuire (Bass, Vocals)
• Dylan Jordee (Drums)
Three of the members Aalid, McGuire, and Jordee previously played together in another Madison band, Good News First. When that project ended, they regrouped with Castrova to form Juneau, starting fresh with a more pop-leaning, melodic direction.
You can find Good News First on my channel here:
youtube.com/post/UgkxHHJrn_J-oZPbp340PQAxVAz_aVahG…
Juneau’s music sat comfortably between pop and rock, driven by strong choruses, clean guitar work, and a tight rhythm section. Their influences were often cited as ranging from Goo Goo Dolls to U2, with traces of their earlier band experience shaping a sound that was upbeat, emotional, and crowd-friendly. Rather than chasing trends, Juneau focused on writing songs that worked both live and on record, catchy without being disposable.
Juneau was very much a local-scene band, thriving through live performances, college-town energy, and grassroots promotion. They played shows around Madison and nearby areas, building a following through word of mouth and DIY promotion rather than mainstream exposure.
Legacy:
Juneau never aimed to be a massive national act and that’s part of their story. They represent a moment in Madison’s music history when bands formed organically, played relentlessly, and left behind a genuine footprint in their local community. Juneau may not be a household name, but for those who caught them live or followed the Madison scene at the time, they remain a memorable chapter worth revisiting.

The Canvas System
Link to the release:
youtube.com/playlist?list=PLq...
The Canvas System (Bristol, United Kingdom)
Active primarily in the late 2000s. Emerging during a fertile period for UK emo and pop-punk, writing emotionally driven songs, touring locally, and building a following through live shows rather than industry backing. Musically, the band blended emo, alternative rock, and pop-punk, drawing comparisons to acts like Paramore, Alanis Morissette, Flyleaf, and The Smashing Pumpkins.
They fit neatly into the mid-2000s UK underground scene, especially in the South West, where they became known as a promising local act with a strong live presence.
Members:
• Tara Davies (Vocals)
• David Heaton (Guitar)
• Phil Iwanuik (Guitar)
• Hannah Spencer (Bass)
• Will Sealey (Drums)
Legacy:
Today, The Canvas System are best remembered as a “lost band” of the 2000s. Much of their online presence has vanished, recordings are scattered, and official pages are long gone. What remains are fan memories and discussions from people still trying to track their music down years later. That scarcity has given the band a cult-favorite status, a reminder of how many genuinely good bands existed just before streaming preserved everything. The Canvas System represent a moment in time when music lived in venues, forums, burned CDs, and word-of-mouth.
The Canvas System didn’t need mainstream success to leave an impression. They stand as a snapshot of a passionate, pre-algorithm music scene, and for those who remember them, or discover them now, they remain proof that great bands don’t always get the archive they deserve.....until now ;-)

Great Big Planes

youtube.com/playlist?list=PLq...
Great Big Planes (Toms River, New Jersey, Unites States)
Great Big Planes were a late-2000s acoustic/alternative rock band from Toms River, NJ, active during the height of the MySpace era. They weren’t a flash-in-the-pan local act, they were a working band, built around constant shows, regional touring, and sharing stages with some of the biggest names in the pop-rock/scene world of the time.
Members: (At their core, Great Big Planes were a three-piece)
• Josh Moran
• Patrick Campion
• Chad Sabo
Great Big Planes balanced acoustic intimacy with rock dynamics. Their songs were rooted in personal, melodic songwriting but designed to work just as well on full band bills as on acoustic showcases. That flexibility made them a natural fit for the touring circuit they lived on. Active touring band during roughly 2008–2011, particularly across the East Coast. Shared stages with nationally recognized scene acts, including The Maine, Boys Like Girls, and Never Shout Never. Festival and roadshow appearances, including MySpace-era multi-band events and Bamboozle-adjacent shows
Legacy:
Not every band’s legacy is measured in chart positions. Great Big Planes represent: the hustle of late-2000s independent bands, the importance of regional touring circuits and a time when MySpace pages, burned CDs, and packed opening slots were how careers were built. If you were there, you remember them. If you weren’t, Great Big Planes are worth discovering, as a piece of New Jersey’s modern music history.

Chasing Morgan (Baltimore, Maryland, United States)
Coming from Bel Air in Harford County, the band quickly became known for high-energy live shows, tight hooks, and the kind of scrappy work ethic that defined the early-2010s East Coast pop-punk wave. Chasing Morgan leaned into melodic pop-punk with anthemic choruses and a strong live-first mentality. Reviews and fan recollections consistently highlight their shows as loud, physical, and personal, crowd interaction, stage dives, and a frontman who wasn’t afraid to jump into the pit or pick up a bass mid-set if needed. They built their reputation as a live band before anything else.
A major chapter of the band’s story is their connection to the Vans Warped Tour. Chasing Morgan earned spots on Warped Tour dates (including Maryland stops) and also spent time on the road as a Warped Tour catering band, a grind-heavy but respected path that gave unsigned bands real touring experience and daily exposure. That Warped connection remains one of the most recognizable parts of their legacy and is often how fans first remember them.
Members:
• Mark Weider (Lead vocals)
• Darin Reagan (Guitar)
• Jimmy Parris (Bass)
• Hunter Long (Guitar)
• Brady Molinaro (Drums)
Like many active touring bands, Chasing Morgan went through several lineup changes over the years. The most consistently cited members include:
Within the Maryland/Baltimore pop-punk scene, Chasing Morgan became a familiar name, playing local venues, festivals, and sharing bills with other regional acts. They were part of the broader 2010s pop-punk resurgence, bridging basement shows and small clubs with larger festival stages. After slowing down in the mid-to-late 2010s, the band’s footprint remained: archived live footage, social posts, Bandcamp listeners, and fans who still associate them with Warped summers, packed floors, and that era of the scene.
Legacy:
A Maryland pop-punk band that worked their way from local shows to Warped Tour fields, left a strong live reputation, and remains a nostalgic favorite for fans of the era.
