Taking your favourite (and hated) media and giving it some analytical context, especially horror stuff... I like making horror stuff. You probably have some questions about the accent.
Unfortunately THE COTTAGE has been hit with a copyright claim and blocked in multiple countries. I disputed it (Fair Use) but it was rejected. If you still wanna see it, it’s available ad-free on my Patreon.
YouTube unjustifiably removed my Glendale Archives video for allegedly violating Community Guidelines. Let me explain…
Initially, the video was flagged as age-restricted, which means the video basically stops earning revenue and viewership. It’s a death sentence for the video.
I appealed and it was rejected, so I contacted Team YouTube to review it. Coincidentally, at the time I followed up, the video was suddenly removed for apparent “child safety”.
It seems the offending clip was a one second clip of two kids playing with toy guys late into a near 19 minute video (YouTube never clarified the exact reason - they never do).
This triggered a Community Strike warning in which I had three options: blur/edit the clip and have it reviewed; take a policy training questionnaire; or file a written appeal. I chose to blur the clip because nothing else in the video goes against their guidelines. It was still rejected without any transparent reason.
YouTube basically refused to reconsider their own error/lack of communication. I did the patronising policy training and I have to avoid getting another within 90 days or I get a Channel Strike, thus a one week suspension (3 strikes and you’re out).
For YEARS, YouTube has had a fundamentally broken moderation (and copyright) system that can randomly punish creators without reason or recourse. It a one-way transaction, even if it is a real person re-reviewing what the machine decided. How can creators follow these guidelines in good faith when YouTube fails to communicate and help us work within the system?
I’ve been doing this full-time almost a decade and I’m always grateful for my audience’s support to sustain it this long. Yet I also like to be open about how complex and messy the business and logistics side of making silly internet videos ultimately is.
My video on The Glendale Archives was removed for apparently breaking Community Guidelines because it features a one second clip of 2 kids playing with toy guns late into the near 19 minute video about a fictional YouTube series.
I’ve blurred the offending clip and awaiting review. Sorry for the inconvenience.
FACES OF DEATH (2026) plays it painfully safe as a meta commentary on our online desensitisation that severely lacks the transgressive edge of its source material. Censorship and content moderation is a ripe concept for a modern reimagining of an allusive and controversial mondo film but the story devolves into a generic serial killer remaking art without a relevant point.
HOPE is Na Hong-jin‘s first film in 10 years since the horror masterpiece The Wailing. It is a bonkers action sci-fi that never takes its foot off the pedal while traversing a bumpy, bloody road.
It leaves you to piece together the context from in medias res worldbuilding, with a brilliantly subversive ending that will inevitably alienate anyone expecting answers to its utter chaos.
Zach Cregger goes 3 for 3 with RESIDENT EVIL (2026) — a The Thing-esque fusion of survival horror games that celebrates the emotional rollercoaster of escalating dread. Funny, frantic and faithfully adapted in essence, if admittedly I wished for a bit more T-virus fanfare.
Hey, I’m on my honeymoon, hence the lack of videos this month. But don’t fret! There are 6 videos in post and more in the scripting phase, so expect a regular schedule from October.
I’m completely out of the loop on the INSIDIOUS series (only fully saw the first and Red Door), so my expectations were almost nonexistent. Hoyever… OUT OF THE FURTHER is a bit of campy fun that’s consistent with the original, if lacking anything remotely scary. 6 movies in you know what to expect but there’s a modestly touching story at the heart of it reminiscent of Poltergeist and Nightmare on Elm Street.

EDIT: YouTube still REJECTED the edit.
