Okay so... dystopian fantasy.
It's one of those genres where you've probably read it... loved it... and had absolutely no idea what to call it.
It's got the grit of a dystopian world but is completely immersed in magical abilities... and the people in charge have figured out how to use all of it against society.
Your heroes can't just take the villain down... they have to change the mind of an entire world.
And I know you're thinking it sounds a little like dark fantasy... but it's not. Though some might share a few tropes.
Dark fantasy is more into the horror. Dystopian fantasy is about the rebellion... just with cool superpowers. 🖤
And very frankly my dystopian fantasy books are always coated in hope!
Sooo... which one are you? 👇
🏹 Here for the rebellion
🔥 Give me the chosen one
🌹 I need romance AND stakes
📚 Just found my new favorite genre
🖤 I write this genre too

Dystopian fantasy lovers... consider this your sign to add a new no-spice series to your TBR! 📖✨

I wrote my main character because I’ve always been obsessed with Katniss, Tris, and Mare. There is just something about that "girl against the world" energy that gets me every time. 🏹

If you love books like The Hunger Games and the elemental powers of books like Red Queen, but you’ve been searching for a clean slow-burn romance that actually simmers over an entire series then...

The Ember Crown series is for you.

Rising Ember is the first book in this Upper YA dystopian fantasy series, and it’s packed with:

Enemies-to-allies-to-lovers (my absolute favorite)

🔥Deadly trials 🗡️
🔥Courtly intrigue and backstabbing 👑
🔥Rebels who are just as dangerous as the evil king
🔥In this world, trust is a luxury.

I always promise: No-spice, No-Gore, and No-profanity.

Just a story you can get lost in.

Comment SPARK to add this no-spice dystopian fantasy book to your TBR today!

✨️ If you’re a fantasy reader looking for a collection of no-spice fairy tales, then I have a mission for you!

The Five Golden Names charity anthology is set to release on April 14th!

All proceeds will be given to reading and literacy programs.

The authors participating in this collection of over twenty different short fairy tale stories inspired by a name generator are looking for ARC readers.

What do ARC readers do?

✨️You’ll receive a copy of the book in the coming weeks for F R E E
✨️Once you’re done with your adventures, you can leave a review on April 14th.

All these fantasy stories are clean - No-spice, No-gore, and No-Profanity.

🌊 My story contribution, The Last Coral, is a dystopian twist on The Fisherman and His Wife tale where:

🏴‍☠️ the fisherman is a fake pirate prince (like a Pirates of the Caribbean story)
👑the wife is his greedy, power-hungry father (like President Snow)
🪄the fish is actually a fisherwoman who can wield a powerful coral that commands the sea (with a Cinderella twist).

If you want to join the ARC Team Comment “CORAL” to get the link!

💰📚 Being a reader on a budget doesn't mean you can't support your favorite fantasy authors.

Let's face it, fantasy books are long and cost more money than other genres. So what's a bookworm to do?

1) Join ARC and Street Teams

Joining the teams of your favorite authors has added bonuses like:
Getting to know the author
Learning the inspiration behind the worlds
Bonus stories that enrich your understanding
Reading the book or seeing the art before anyone else.
And more.

But if you're like me... a slow reader... or you don't have the time.

2) You can join Kindle Unlimited.

Every page you read pays the author a little less than half a penny. You'll have access to read as many books as you can read in their catalog. You can borrow up to ten books at a time.

3) But if you can't afford the monthly cost, check out books from the library.

Or if the book is not there, ask them to get it for you. Authors get that way paid, too.

4) Comment. Share. Repost.

Helping other readers discover our books on social media is super helpful. Having readers in the comments of our posts reminds us why we write. We really appreciate every comment. Trust me, you should hear how excited authors get when readers message them or tag them.

Let's support some authors today. Tag your favorites in the comments. 👇

Nothing better than a dystopian fantasy book with all your favorite tropes...

If you’re new here, hi! I’m Sara Wright. 👑

I prefer facts over small talk, dogs over most things, and I’m on a mission to prove that dystopian stories can be high-stakes without the spice or the gore.

Just because there’s no gore doesn't mean there aren't
high-stakes survival moments.

My readers know... characters ij my books don't always survive... 👀

But I’m an even bigger fan of sci-fi and fantasy stories that leave you feeling hopeful at the end.

And...

No-spice doesn't mean there’s no romantic tension. I love the banter of a good slow-burn enemies-to-lovers romance arc..

I just like to focus my stories on the longing rather than the other stuff.

Whether I’m writing elemental rebellions in The Ember Crown, YA dystopian fantasy series or space-faring tree portal adventures in The Progenitor Chronicles, you can always count on finding these tropes in my novels.

👉I’d love to get to know you, too. Which of these tropes is a must-read for you? Let me know in the comments! 👇

If you found this helpful, like, comment, and share it with a writer friend who needs this 💛
I’m a part-time dystopian fantasy author with a busy life… so yes, word count matters… but it’s not everything.

I work a full-time job with flexible hours.
I help care for my father-in-law with Parkinson’s.
Most of my writing happens at night, when the house is quiet and everyone else is asleep. It’s honestly the only time I have to myself.

At one point in my career, I lived by daily word counts. My hyper-focused, overachieving side loved it. Gold stars all around.

But it also stressed me out.
So I stopped focusing on daily word counts and started focusing on one scene per writing session.
My scenes usually land between 1k–3k words, which means I average about 5k–18k words a week. At that pace, my rough drafts reach novel length in about one to two months (editing not included).

Letting go of strict word-count goals helped me immerse myself in the story instead of feeling like I failed for not hitting a number. I’m no longer forcing progress, and my creative flow is better for it.
Don’t get me wrong… if tracking word count works for you, keep going. It just didn’t work for me.
If you’re writing around real life and wondering if you’re “doing enough”… you are.

Do you track word count, scenes, or something else entirely? Let me know in the comments 👇

Nothing better than a fantasy set in a galaxy far, far away…

Yes, I wrote a utopian society where people live for centuries and have superpowers.

They really had it together… until an evil, corrupt being escaped.

Now she’s the only one who can save them... or bring the universe to its knees.

Xendara has two destinies, and whatever she chooses will shape everyone’s future.

And yes, I added:

✅️Space travel & portal jumping
✅️Time travel & superpowers
✅️Talking plants
✅️An overprotective love interest
✅️Villain redemption arcs

Because I really wrote the epic, clean fantasy story I wanted to read…

And it all started with a Time Crystal that ended up in the wrong hands.

So here’s the vibe of Rising Ember, if you’re wondering whether it’s for you:

It’s the first book in my YA dystopian fantasy series, The Ember Crown. The story follows a girl trying to survive inside a system that’s stacked against her from the start: one where power is dangerous, obedience is expected, and pushing back comes with consequences.

You’ll find:
– fast-paced action and high stakes
– a strong, stubborn heroine who doesn’t give up easily
– big, messy choices with no perfect answers
– a clean, slow-burn romance that builds quietly in the background

There’s tension and darkness, but it’s not grim for the sake of it. The focus is on resilience, survival, and what it costs to fight back.

If that sounds like your kind of dystopian story, you’ll feel right at home here.
