💙 NEW TODAY: QUEEN CAMILLA CELEBRATES THE CHAMPIONS OF BRITISH RACING

Friends, there are royal appearances that feel ceremonial—and then there are moments when genuine passion shines through so naturally that it becomes impossible to miss.

Today, Queen Camilla attended Qatar British Champions Day at Ascot, the spectacular finale of Britain’s Flat racing season and the country’s richest race day, with £4.35 million in prize money.

Dressed in a beautiful royal-blue coat dress and navy hat, Camilla spent the afternoon celebrating the horses, jockeys and young riders who represent both the proud traditions and exciting future of British racing.

One particularly meaningful moment came when she met 24-year-old jockey Saffie Osborne, who made history last month by becoming the first female jockey ever to win one of Britain’s five Classic races.

Saffie rode Highwayman to victory in the 250th St Leger at Doncaster—breaking a barrier that had stood throughout the long history of British Classic racing. Today, she was introduced to the Queen alongside her father, former jump jockey and trainer Jamie Osborne.

Saffie described meeting Camilla as a real honour and said her grandmother would be overjoyed. She also spoke warmly about the Queen’s unmistakable love for British racing and how much her presence and support meant to everyone involved in the sport.

Camilla also met 14-year-old Camilla Froggatt, winner of the day’s pony race—a lovely recognition of a young rider who may only be beginning her own journey.

There is something special about seeing an experienced Queen acknowledge a history-making young woman and encourage another girl just starting out. One represented a barrier already broken; the other represented all the possibilities still ahead.

The day also brought a wonderfully unexpected royal prediction.

Queen Camilla selected Talk Of New York as the best-turned-out horse before the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes—and not long afterwards, that same horse charged to victory.

The Queen later presented the winning trophy to jockey William Buick, smiling as the horse she had admired before the race returned as its champion.

Camilla also shared a warm reunion with Zara Tindall. Their embrace, laughter and easy conversation reflected the genuine affection between two women who share a lifelong love of horses and equestrian sport.

🖤 A CENTURY OF REMEMBRANCE: PRINCESS ANNE HONOURS THE FALLEN

Friends, some royal moments should not pass without being remembered—not because they are glamorous, but because of the sacrifice and history they carry.

Yesterday, October 16, The Princess Royal attended the Centenary Dedication of the Guards Memorial at Horse Guards Parade in London, exactly 100 years after the historic monument was first unveiled in 1926.

Attending as Colonel of The Blues and Royals and Senior Colonel of the Household Division, Princess Anne received a Royal Salute and Guard of Honour before taking part in the solemn rededication of the restored memorial.

She laid a wreath alongside the Major General and representatives of the seven regiments of the Household Division, delivered an address and met serving Guards, cadets, veterans and Chelsea Pensioners.

Yet beyond the military precision, scarlet uniforms and ceremonial tradition was something profoundly human: remembrance.

The Guards Memorial was created to honour approximately 14,000 Guardsmen who lost their lives during the First World War, together with members of the Household Cavalry and supporting units who died while serving alongside the Guards Division in France and Belgium.

Following the Second World War, its dedication was extended to commemorate members of the Household Division who died during that conflict—and all those who have since given their lives in service to their country.

The five bronze soldiers standing silently against the Portland-stone memorial represent the Grenadier, Coldstream, Scots, Welsh and Irish Guards.

The memorial carries no individual names, yet those figures stand for thousands of lives: sons, husbands, fathers, brothers and friends whose futures ended so that others might have theirs.

One hundred years ago, the memorial was unveiled by Field Marshal Prince Arthur, Duke of Connaught, assisted by 100-year-old Crimean War veteran General Sir George Higginson. Thousands of serving soldiers and veterans gathered as Britain promised that those who had fallen would never be forgotten.

A century later, Princess Anne returned to that same sacred place to renew that promise.

Here at Whispers of the Crown, we believe these are among the most meaningful moments of royal service—the quiet acts of remembrance that preserve the stories of people who can no longer tell them for themselves.

Princess Anne has spent a lifetime honouring service, duty and sacrifice. Yesterday, as she carried that wreath toward the memorial, she became a bridge between the generation that built it and the generations now entrusted with protecting its meaning.

The wreath she carried was more than flowers.

It was gratitude.

It was remembrance.

It was a message carried across an entire century:

💚 NEW TODAY: THE PRINCESS OF WALES—HELPING CHILDREN GROW THROUGH NATURE

Friends, some royal work reaches far beyond the moment we see in a photograph. It begins quietly—with a belief, a purpose and the hope of creating something that may shape a child’s entire life.

Yesterday, The Princess of Wales visited Cornwall to learn more about the powerful role nature can play during the earliest and most important years of childhood. Today, she announced a meaningful new project from The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, with the Duchy of Cornwall as a founding partner.

The project will explore how nature-rich surroundings, together with loving and nurturing relationships, can help babies and young children develop the social and emotional skills they will carry throughout their lives.

Because childhood is not only preparation for the future. Childhood is where that future begins.

It is where a child first learns whether the world feels safe. It is where confidence begins to grow, relationships begin to form and the earliest foundations of emotional wellbeing are laid. The places in which children play, learn and feel loved can remain with them long after childhood has passed.

Speaking from the heart, Catherine reflected on the importance of spending time outdoors in today’s technology-driven world, saying that “spending quality time outdoors has never been more important.”

And the figures tell us why this work matters. New research commissioned by the Centre found that 84% of parents believe nature supports their child’s wellbeing and development—yet only 33% said their child spends time in nature every day.

Behind those numbers are families who want their children to experience more of the natural world but may not always have the time, opportunity or access. Catherine’s hope is that this practical research will help create supportive environments that make nature more accessible to babies, young children and families across the United Kingdom.

The Centre will bring together academics, early-years professionals, charities and environmental organisations to understand how this knowledge can be put into practice. Further details will be announced as the work develops.

💙 NEW TODAY: KING CHARLES AND QUEEN CAMILLA OPEN A NEW CHAPTER FOR WALES

Friends, some royal occasions are filled with ceremony, but beneath the uniforms, music and tradition lies something quieter and more meaningful: a country gathering to honour its past while placing its hopes in the future.

Today, King Charles and Queen Camilla travelled to Cardiff Bay for the Ceremonial Opening of the Seventh Senedd—the Welsh Parliament. It was the first time Charles had undertaken this historic duty as King, formally opening a new parliamentary term following the 2026 Senedd election.

Their arrival carried all the dignity of a national occasion. After reaching Cardiff by helicopter, Their Majesties were welcomed by a 21-gun Royal Salute fired at the Pierhead by 104 Regiment (Volunteer), Royal Artillery.

A Royal Navy Guard of Honour made up of 105 sailors greeted the King and Queen at the Senedd. Personnel from the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Welsh; 157 (Welsh) Regiment, Royal Logistic Corps; and the RAF’s King’s Colour Squadron formed a tri-service street-lining party, while the Central Band of the Royal Air Force provided the music.

History was present even in these opening moments: this was the first time the Royal Navy’s King’s Colour—a ceremonial White Ensign bearing the Sovereign’s Royal Cypher—had been paraded in Wales.

Inside the Senedd, the King and Queen were received by the Llywydd, Huw Irranca-Davies MS, and the First Minister of Wales, Rhun ap Iorwerth MS.

The ceremony was not only about government. It was shaped around the voices, heritage and creativity of Wales. The King viewed presentations celebrating talent and achievement from across the country before joining Members of the Senedd and invited guests in the Siambr, the debating chamber.

The Senedd’s ceremonial mace was carried into the building, accompanied by Welsh Youth Parliament members Ffiôn-Hâf Scott and Aryan Gupta. Later, when the mace was placed in its sconce, it formally signified that the Seventh Senedd had opened.

This new term carries particular significance. The Welsh Parliament has expanded from 60 to 96 Members, including many serving for the first time—96 people now entrusted with representing the voices, experiences and hopes of communities across Wales.

The King addressed the chamber alongside the Llywydd and the First Minister. He spoke warmly about the character of Wales and the strength found in its communities, relationships and sense of belonging. He reflected on the deep connection he has felt with Wales—its language, culture and landscape—for so much of his life.

He concluded in Welsh, offering his blessings for the work being undertaken for this very special land.

Welsh culture remained at the heart of the day. Mared Emry Pugh-Evans, Official Harpist to His Majesty The King, performed during the ceremony. There were also contributions from Côr Merched Plastaf, Arpe Dolce and the Wales YFC Choir.

Hanan Issa, the National Poet of Wales, shared a poem specially commissioned for the occasion, while Côr Merched Plastaf performed “O Gymru,” composed by Rhys Jones. In a chamber created for debate and decision-making, Wales was also heard through its poetry, music and language.

Yet one of the most touching moments connected today’s ceremony to a memory Wales will carry forever.

The King and Queen met members of the Jones family, descendants of Stephen Andrew, the caretaker at Pantglas Junior School who helped save children during the Aberfan disaster of 1966. Their meeting came just days before Wales marks the 60th anniversary of the tragedy—a solemn reminder that a nation’s future is built not by forgetting its pain, but by carrying the names, courage and stories of its people forward.

Queen Camilla also paid tribute to Wales through what she wore: a red wool-crepe coat by Fiona Clare, a coordinating red felt beret by Philip Treacy and a leek-shaped brooch honouring one of the country’s most recognisable national emblems.

Today was filled with salutes, uniforms and ancient ceremony—but its meaning reached far beyond tradition.

It was about service. It was about identity. It was about the responsibility of those chosen to speak for their communities. It was about young voices walking beside an ancient mace, Welsh music filling the chamber and a King expressing his affection for a country that has shaped so much of his life.

Friends, tonight at St James’s Palace, King Charles and Queen Camilla, accompanied by the Duchess of Gloucester, welcomed guests to a reception celebrating the Commonwealth diaspora.

The word “diaspora” can sound formal, but behind it are millions of human stories—people who have left one home and built another, carrying their culture, traditions, memories and hopes with them. They are parents raising children between two cultures, young people honouring where their families came from, and communities whose contributions can be found throughout British life.

Tonight’s reception placed those people and their stories at the heart of the Palace.

Among those welcomed by Their Majesties were Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Botchwey and Zeinab Badawi-Malik, President of SOAS University of London. The reception was held ahead of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, known as CHOGM, which will take place in Antigua and Barbuda from 1–4 November. Held every two years, CHOGM brings together leaders from the Commonwealth’s 56 independent and equal member nations, alongside representatives of business, civil society, women and young people, to discuss shared challenges and the future of the Commonwealth. As Head of the Commonwealth, King Charles will attend CHOGM accompanied by Queen Camilla. 💙 NEW TODAY: PRINCE WILLIAM MEETS AMOS BURSARY SCHOLARS AND ALUMNI

Friends, every young person deserves the chance to discover how far their talents can take them. But talent alone does not always open doors. Sometimes a young person also needs someone to guide them, encourage them and help them find the opportunities that may otherwise feel out of reach.

Today, Prince William met with scholars and alumni of The Amos Bursary during Black History Month. Founded in 2009 by Baroness Valerie Amos and Colleen Amos, the charity supports young people of African and Caribbean heritage who attend state schools, academies and colleges in London and the West Midlands. Its five-year programme begins in Year 12 and supports students as they move through university and toward their careers.

That support reaches beyond the classroom. Students can take part in seminars, workshops and conferences; receive mentoring and university guidance; and gain access to internships, career advice and professional networks. The programme is there to help them build not only skills, but confidence—the feeling that they have a place in rooms where decisions are made and futures take shape.

The bursary’s belief that talent is widespread, but opportunity is not says so much. Behind every opportunity is a young person who has worked hard, kept believing and dared to imagine more. And behind every young person who succeeds is often a community that chose to stand beside them.

Thank you, Prince William, for meeting with these scholars and alumni and helping shine a light on the work of the Amos Bursary. Every young person deserves to feel that their hopes are worth nurturing and that their future matters.

Some moments bring people together through a shared love of sport. Today, that moment unfolded on The Mall in London, where Prince William joined cricketing stars from the United Kingdom and India for a special Earthshot Prize event.

The informal game brought together England players Joe Root, Harry Brook, Danni Wyatt-Hodge and Nat Sciver-Brunt; Indian cricket figures Ajinkya Rahane and Sourav Ganguly; and West Indies legend Brian Lara. On a stretch of road so often associated with royal occasions, the players gathered around a cricket pitch with Buckingham Palace nearby.

Cricket has a special place in both the UK and India—a shared passion that can cross borders and bring people together. Today’s gathering looked ahead to another meeting in Mumbai: The Earthshot Prize’s 2026 events, with the Summit on November 16–17 and Awards Night on November 17.

Earthshot is focused on people and ideas working to protect and repair our planet. In that light, today’s game offered a cheerful glimpse of the connections that can help bring the world together around a hopeful cause.

For William, this was more than a day of cricket. The Earthshot Prize is a cause he founded to find and support solutions that can help repair our planet. As the Prize prepares to bring its 2026 events to Mumbai on November 16–17, today’s gathering offered a warm reminder that hopeful change can begin when people from different places come together around something they love.

The challenges facing our planet can feel enormous. Yet William’s work through Earthshot keeps attention on the people creating solutions—and on the possibility that progress is still within reach. Today, a simple game on The Mall brought that message into view in a joyful way: countries connected by cricket, and a shared hope for a better future.

Sometimes a powerful message does not need a grand speech. Sometimes it is found in a game, a gathering, and a Prince using the moment to bring people together around a cause that matters. 💙

💙 A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE IN ABERFAN: THE KING, QUEEN AND PRINCE WILLIAM TO MARK 60 YEARS

On Wednesday, 21 October, King Charles, Queen Camilla and the Prince of Wales are expected to visit Aberfan as the community remembers the 144 people who lost their lives in the disaster of 1966, including 116 children.

The day is expected to begin at the Aberfan Memorial Garden, built on the site of Pantglas Junior School. The King and Prince William are expected to lay wreaths, while Queen Camilla will place a posy. A moment of silence will offer space to remember those who never came home, and the families and neighbours whose lives were changed forever.

The royal family is also expected to meet survivors, bereaved relatives, members of the community and emergency workers who responded in the hours and days after the tragedy. Their memories carry the story of Aberfan beyond the date itself: the children and adults who were lost, the families left to grieve, and a village that has carried that sorrow across generations.

Prince William is expected to conclude the visit at Ynysowen Community Primary School, where he will unveil the Aberfan Memorial Tree, a new sculpture created in memory of those who died. The school stands as part of the community’s continuing life, where children learn and grow while the memory of Aberfan remains close.

The disaster happened at Pantglas Junior School, but its loss reached far beyond one building. It touched families throughout the village and left a mark on Wales and on people around the world. Sixty years later, Aberfan’s remembrance belongs to those who lived through it, those who carry their loved ones’ stories, and every generation that comes after them.

To the people of Aberfan and to every family still living with this loss: may you feel that the world remembers with you. May every life be honoured with tenderness, and may no one ever forget. 💙

💙 A MEANINGFUL DAY IN BELFAST WITH WILLIAM AND CATHERINE

Yesterday’s visit to Belfast was about more than three stops on a royal itinerary. At every place, William and Catherine met people whose work, service or personal experiences connected to one important idea: everyone deserves support, opportunity and a place where they can feel they belong.

Their first stop was The Commons on Ormeau Road, a former church being transformed into a community centre. William and Catherine met its directors, David and Jill Hines, and toured the building, where local groups had gathered. Among them were Flourish, which works with survivors of trafficking, and Sew-cial Circle, a handicrafts group bringing people together through creativity.

There was something especially moving about seeing a former place of worship become a space for connection and community. Belonging can grow through ordinary, human things: sitting together, making something with your hands, sharing experiences and knowing there is a place for you. The groups at The Commons are creating that kind of welcome.

The visit also brought William and Catherine together with the people behind Homewards’ New Employment Opportunities Network, known as NEON. They met employers, support organisations and young people connected with the initiative. Steven, a care leaver from Belfast, spoke with William about the support that can help young people leaving care move into work. Leaders from Homewards locations and major employers were also there to learn from Northern Ireland’s experience.

NEON is built around a simple but powerful belief: a young person should have a real opportunity to work, alongside the support that can help them succeed and feel secure in their role. A job can offer more than a paycheque. It can bring confidence, routine, connection and the feeling that a new path is possible. Homewards is working to make homelessness rare, brief and unrepeated—and that work begins by listening to people and understanding what might help before a crisis takes hold.

At PSNI headquarters, William and Catherine met officers as the Police Service of Northern Ireland marked the 25th anniversary of its formation. It was a chance to recognise those who serve their communities day after day, and to hear from the people carrying that responsibility. Stronger, safer communities are built through the commitment of many people who keep showing up for others.

Then came a very different, and rather lovely, stop at IKEA in Holywood Exchange. The couple met young people being supported into work, including Sophie Russell, who had found a job at IKEA through Homewards and had been working there for six months. Her story brought the purpose of NEON into focus: behind every initiative is a person taking a step toward confidence, stability and a future of their own.

And William and Catherine didn’t just observe the work happening at IKEA—they stepped behind the café tills and served customers. It was a lighter, joyful moment in the middle of a day with a serious purpose. Shoppers came in for a meal and found themselves being served by the Prince and Princess of Wales. Sometimes a warm, unexpected moment can make an important conversation feel close to home.

As they left The Commons, a huge crowd that had gathered to see them welcomed William and Catherine with handshakes, selfies and warm moments with families and children. People had waited in the rain, hoping for a few seconds with them. Those small encounters can mean so much: a smile, a kind exchange, a photograph to take home and remember. The crowd’s affection was another part of the day’s story—a reminder of the warmth with which the Prince and Princess are received in Northern Ireland.

Seeing Catherine join William for the first time at a Homewards-related event made the visit feel especially meaningful. Homewards has long been one of William’s personal missions, and yesterday they stood together, listening to young people, community groups, employers and officers. The day showed that preventing homelessness takes more than one organisation or one conversation. It takes communities willing to notice people, open doors and keep showing up.

A heartfelt day in Belfast—and a reminder that behind every statistic is a person who deserves to be seen, supported and given the chance to thrive. 💙

💙 HAPPY 91ST BIRTHDAY TO HRH THE DUKE OF KENT — A LIFETIME OF QUIET SERVICE

Some royal lives are accompanied by constant headlines. Others are defined by something quieter: duty faithfully carried, promises kept and service given without the need for applause.

Today, we celebrate the 91st birthday of His Royal Highness Prince Edward, Duke of Kent—a man whose life has been woven through nearly a century of British royal history.

Born on October 9, 1935, Prince Edward was only six years old when his father, Prince George, Duke of Kent, died in a wartime flying accident while on active service. The young prince inherited his father’s title and responsibilities long before he could fully understand the weight they would carry.

At 16, he walked solemnly behind the coffin of his uncle, King George VI. The following year, he attended the Coronation of his cousin, Queen Elizabeth II, where he knelt before the young Queen and pledged his loyalty. It was a promise he would honour throughout the entirety of her historic reign.

The Duke went on to serve his country in uniform, graduating from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and beginning a 21-year Army career with the Royal Scots Greys. His service took him to Hong Kong and Cyprus, where he commanded a squadron as part of the United Nations peacekeeping force. He later retired with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel and was eventually promoted to Field Marshal.

But military service was only one chapter of an extraordinary life of duty.

For more than five decades, the Duke supported organisations connected to remembrance, veterans, lifesaving, sport, music, international understanding and public service. He served for decades as President of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, helping preserve the memory of the men and women who gave their lives in conflict. He has also served as President of the RNLI since 1969, standing beside generations of volunteers dedicated to saving lives at sea.

To millions of tennis fans, he also became one of Wimbledon’s most familiar royal faces, presenting trophies and supporting the championships for more than half a century.

Behind the public duties was a devoted family man. The Duke shared 64 years of marriage with Katharine, Duchess of Kent, and together they raised three children. Her passing in 2025 marked the end of a remarkable partnership that had endured through decades of royal life and service.

He stood beside Queen Elizabeth II throughout her reign. He paid her homage at her Coronation, supported her at national occasions and later walked in procession at her funeral. Today, he continues to support King Charles III—the same Crown, the same commitment and the same quiet sense of duty.

He has lived through five reigns, witnessed enormous changes within Britain and the monarchy, and remained a steady presence through them all.

Even as advancing years have made every public appearance more demanding, the Duke has continued to show up—walking carefully, standing proudly and fulfilling his responsibilities with dignity.

His has never been the loudest voice in the Royal Family, but his service has spoken clearly for more than seven decades.

Happy 91st birthday to His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent—a soldier, a cousin, a father, a grandfather and one of the monarchy’s most faithful servants.
