I wanted to capture her bright and radiant energy through bold texture and warm colors. I loved her younger pictures when her hair was curly and full of volume.
Painting the frame was new for me but I feel it adds an interesting touch and allows the paint to extend beyond the canvas and trespass the wooden barriers of the frame.
A beautiful thing in making portraits is seeing what stands out for the artist in their interpretation. A memorable feature of Yousra that I was keen to highlight is surely her smile!
I was feeling hesitant about how to approach this perfume. I did not want to overwhelm it with paint yet cover it with my dense and textured strokes.
I overcame my doubt by starting with a simple pattern. Blue felt right to complement the iconic poppy flower of this perfume and allow to shine through.
I added poppy flowers little by little, starting from the back of the perfume diligently. Their illustrative, pop art details and green strokes for leaves allow the initial print to remain visible and recognizable.
