Adan Manzano traveled to New Orleans to cover the Super Bowl. He was 27, a rising sports reporter, and a widowed father to a baby girl.

He never came home.

Hotel cameras showed Danette Colbert entering his room and leaving alone. Investigators later found Adan’s phone, card, and hotel room key in her home.

At trial, prosecutors presented evidence of a broader operation targeting men. The jury convicted Colbert of racketeering and negligent homicide, rather than murder or manslaughter.

Christa Pike was 18 years old when she tortured and killed 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer.
She carried a piece of Colleen’s skull back to the Job Corps Center, showed it to other students, and openly spoke about what she had done.
She later became the youngest woman sentenced to death in the United States during the modern death penalty era.
But Christa was also born with fetal alcohol-related brain damage. She endured severe abuse beginning in early childhood and lived with untreated bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder.
None of that makes her innocent.
It also does not erase what happened to Colleen.
After 30 years on Tennessee’s death row, Christa is scheduled to be executed on September 30, 2026.
