I recently published an interactive blog post focusing on a fun and visual introduction to Git's underlying data model (the object database).

Git internals tend to be tricky, and many software engineers (myself included) don't really look inside the .git/ folder to figure out what Git is doing behind-the-scenes. This essay is also an effort to expand my horizons creatively beyond videos without losing the fun, visual learning style that ya'll have liked so much about my videos. Check it out, I love how it turned out.

The Super Smash Bros Melee decomp just hit 100% — big ups to everyone working on this project, including some of my buddies back on the west coast.

For those who don't know, this was a community initiative to reverse engineer the gamecube game into C, which opens up all kinds of cool things. Unfortunately that's most of what I know as an outsider who occasionally picks up a controller and mains jigglypuff every once and a while.

LearnGit.io v2.0 is now live (with free open access) and YouTube is the first to know! app.learngit.io/home/

I'll be making tweaks here and there over the next few days before writing up an official blog post and newsletter, but for now, feel free to start the first two modules (they're not free, no account needed)

This redesign way mainly aimed at making progress tracking easier: where you are and what comes next. So in addition to the updated design system, each lesson now has a clear Watch -> Explore -> Read pathway. Watch the video lesson, explore the concept with interactive step-by-step visualizations, then read the written documentation.

LearnGit doesn't have trial accounts so you'll need to join to see the redesign, but I'm working on opening up a few lessons for free so you can get a feel for the platform before deciding to join or not. Stay tuned for that hopefully next week.

Switching focus back to YouTube soon, but the last few weeks have been focused on redesigning LearnGit.io

The goal of this redesign was a structural reorganization to make it easier to track your progress: where you are and what comes next. Step-by-step visualizations are now also more prominent.

Here are some preliminary screenshots, as well as a screenshot of where LearnGit is at today, pre-redesign. I'm hoping to release next week.
