Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has officially announced the suspension of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), marking a significant escalation in Tehran's standoff with the West. According to Press TV, the move follows what Pezeshkian described as "destructive" behavior by IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.

The suspension comes after the Iranian parliament voted on June 25 in favor of a bill to end cooperation with the the United Nation watchdog. The measure was prompted by Israel’s June 13 airstrike, targeting nuclear-related infrastructure, followed by U.S. strikes. In response, Iranian lawmakers argued that continued engagement with the IAEA was untenable under such hostile conditions.

The Guardian Council, a powerful oversight body, ratified the bill the next day, declaring it consistent with Islamic law and the Iranian Constitution. With the council’s approval, the legislation is now enforceable, effectively halting Iran’s obligations under its IAEA monitoring framework.

The Houthis claim their hypersonic missile, named Palestine 2 has stealth technology, a range of 2,150 kilometers, high maneuverability and can travel up to speeds of Mach 16.

Two main reasons may explain the Israel’s failure to intercept the missile. The first is that the missile was launched in a ‘flattened’ ballistic trajectory, possibly from an unexpected direction.

As a result, Israeli or U.S. detection systems in Saudi Arabia may not have identified it in time, leading to its late discovery and insufficient time for interceptors to operate.

The second, that many Israeli defence experts believe is that Iran has developed a maneuverable warhead and passed it on to Houthis. Such a warhead separates from the missile during the final third of its trajectory and maneuvers mid-flight—executing pre-programmed course changes—to hit its designated target.

American-made M4 rifles have emerged as a significant concern in Kashmir's security landscape, with recent recoveries highlighting their increasing presence in militant operations. On April 15, 2025, security forces recovered M4 rifles and 65 rounds of ammunition following a gunfight in Kishtwar, Jammu & Kashmir. This discovery adds to a pattern of M4 carbine recoveries in the region since 2017.

Security experts trace these weapons to the cache left behind by U.S. forces during their withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, though their presence in Kashmir predates this event. The sophisticated weapon has become particularly concerning due to its effectiveness in jungle warfare and mountainous terrain operations.

The M4 carbine's technical specifications make it a formidable weapon in guerrilla warfare scenarios. Weighing less than 3 kg, this assault rifle can fire up to 900 rounds per minute and effectively engage targets at ranges up to 600 meters. Its compatibility with various attachments, including telescopic sights and night vision devices, makes it particularly effective for operations in challenging terrain and low-light conditions.

Law enforcement sources indicate that militant groups typically operate in small units of three to four members, with at least one member carrying an M4 carbine. The weapon's presence was also noted in the Pahalgam attack, demonstrating its growing use in militant operations.

The proliferation of these weapons has broader regional implications. Pakistan has raised concerns at the UN about U.S. weapons reaching various non-state actors, including Baloch insurgents and TTP groups. The weapon's superiority over the commonly used AK-47, particularly when fitted with underbarrel weapons and optical attachments, has made it a preferred choice for militant operations in wooded and mountainous areas.

On April 28, a dramatic incident unfolded aboard the USS Harry S. Truman when a U.S. Navy F/A-18 Super Hornet rolled off the flight deck and plunged into the #RedSea. The jet was being maneuvered via towing tractor when the aircraft carrier abruptly swerved — a defensive zigzag maneuver used to evade potential missile threats, reportedly from Houthi rebel forces. Both the sailor operating the towing vehicle and the crew member in the cockpit leapt to safety just moments before the fighter and tug fell into the sea. This marks the second Super Hornet lost from the Truman in six months, underlining the risks faced by carrier-based operations in conflict zones like the Middle East.

Despite the accident, the F/A-18 Super Hornet remains a cornerstone of U.S. naval air power. Designed for high-performance multirole operations, it features twin GE F414-GE-400 engines, a maximum speed of Mach 1.8, and a combat radius of 390 nautical miles. Built for aircraft carrier deployment, it includes folding wings, reinforced landing gear, and a tailhook.

The jet excels in both air-to-air and air-to-ground missions, making it a vital force multiplier. Its AN/APG-79 AESA radar ensures superior detection and targeting, while it boasts a heavier weapons load than many contemporary fighters. The two-seat configuration allows a Weapons Systems Officer (WSO) to handle complex missions and systems.

Compared to 5th-generation fighters like the F-35, the Super Hornet remains cost-effective, easier to maintain, and highly adaptable, with an open architecture ready for future tech upgrades. Proven in thousands of combat sorties, its legacy is reliability, versatility, and combat readiness.
