The Colt Single Action Army, the most legendary revolver, was adopted by the U.S. Army and favored by lawmen, frontiersmen, cowboys, bounty hunters, outlaws and many others.
One of the acquisitions late this year was a Colt SAA model 1873 in 45 Colt. Earlier this year, I found an amazing U.S. Cavalry Colt 1873 in original condition but this one I picked up later was blued by its previous owner. It’s a dark blackish blue, with ivory grips. Though this one was not US marked, I still couldn’t pass on it because the serial dates to 1878. I got some black powder 45 Colt, so you’ll definitely see some range time with this one.

This could be the most underrated surplus pistol here in 2025 going into 2026. Here is the Spanish STAR Model 30M I got from Centerfire Systems. It is a double action, single action all steel pistol with a double stack 15 rd magazine, chambered in 9mm. This pistol and variants were known to have served with Spanish police, Spanish armed forces, and with a few other countries. It is an evolution of the STAR Model 28 and stems from requirements outlined in the U.S. XM9 trials. It’s not known for much use in movies or video games though it did find its way into a couple of episodes of Miami Vice. Many of them are now coming into the US as surplus and in my opinion, I think these are at a great bargain for the quality and features.

The US military held the XM9 trials during the mid 1980s to select a new standard service sidearm, which would relace the M1911A1. The two best performing pistols were the Beretta 92FS and the SIG P226. The US Army chose the Beretta 92 over the P226 but only because it was cheaper. The P226 would be tested and chosen by the elite US Navy SEALS as their primary sidearm. Many other elite units and police forces around the globe chose the SIG P226. This pistol, though not as well known as the Beretta M9, was one of the best pistols of the 1990s and continues to serve with various police and military units today.
When I saw that Royal Tiger imports had the surplus batch of German made P226 pistols, I knew I had to get one and provide a review. Here’s my overall review video —>SIG P226 From Royal Tiger Imports Unboxing and Range Test

Vetterli Carbine
Have you ever played the game Hunt Showdown?
well check out this Vetterli Carbine!
The back story of this carbine: My friend Will @Gunpowder_Acres Had a Vetterli rifle that was busted up. He n knew he had to save it so he came up with a plan. He meticulously crafted this carbine from the rifle, giving it a new life. We took it to the range and had a blast shooting water jugs.

An incredible recent acquisition, a Colt Special Model 1861 “Signature Series” rifle.
The Springfield Model 1861 was the U.S. government’s standard infantry rifle, but with overwhelming demand, the War Department contracted other manufacturers to make rifles.
Colt, along with some sub contractors, produced around 100,000 “Colt Special Model 1861” rifled muskets. Though it may look exactly like a Springfield 1861, the parts are not interchangeable.
From 1994-1997, Colt released the Special Model 1861 “Signature Series” reproduction of the rifle. This was part of their “Signature Series” line, which aimed to recreate historic Colt firearms. The Special Model 1861 reproductions were made in Italy and look exactly like the originals except for a few features. One such feature is the presence of a laser engraved signature of Samuel Colt on the bottom of the trigger guard. Some re-enactors use these rifles and some go as far as removing the signature and altering it to look exactly like an original (de-farbing).
I got this rifle from an estate a few months ago and it’s a great addition to the small black powder portion of my collection. Looking forward to fire it at the range soon.

50 Cal Percussion Target Rifle 💥
A gunsmith and fellow weapons enthusiast passed away not too long ago and had a vast amount of military surplus in his estate. To help the family, many of these things were being offered to people who knew him. One of the things I got from the estate was a custom bull barrel percussion cap target rifle in 50 cal ball. My friend Will helped out with the scope mounting and test firing at his range.
A target rifle similar to this would have been used by some designated sharpshooters during the American Civil War by both sides. They were very uncommon though.

One of the most admired aspects of the Steyr M1912 is its intimidating and striking appearance. It is a beast of a pistol from the early 20th century. This one is chambered in the original 9x23mm Steyr cartridge. Though the cartridge did not survive into the modern era like the 9x19mm, its role in both World Wars shows it still has a very rich history. The aesthetics, mechanics, and legacy of this Austrian classic is why it is a very collectible WW1 era pistol.

A few weeks ago, while I was on my way to Waxhaw, NC for a Revolutionary War Reenactment, I decided to stop at a Cabelas/ Bass pro. I was surprised that they had this Civil War era Smith Carbine!
Over 30,000 or so Smith Carbines were produced for the Union during the American Civil War, making it fourth most issued carbine. The first 10,000 or so produced (1861-1862) have standard sling swivels and are known as an “artillery model”, though all of these were issued to Cavalry. The “Cavalry models” have a sling bar and ring on the left side of the receiver. The one that I got has the sling swivels indicating it was an early production model.
So needless to say, it was tempting. I already knew some things about the Smith Carbine, and I had recently been shooting a lot of black powder rifles. I also remember seeing some recent videos of fellow enthusiasts on Instagram firing theirs. So after reviewing and analyzing it, I thought it to be a good deal and it is now in the collection.

Spectators were thrilled this weekend with the sights and sounds of American Revolution musket fire at the Battle of Charlotte Reenactment.
The Battle of Charlotte was a last minute reenactment this year at the Museum of the Waxhaws. Planning took place only a few months out but various reenactor groups came together to make it happen. One reenactor group depicted in some of the photos is Kingsbury’s Artillery/ Locke’s Militia.
Shown are only a few shots of the event but it was a huge success. There were demonstrations, food, battle reenactments and so much history to learn.
Many battles and skirmishes were fought in the Carolinas during the Revolutionary War. It’s events like these that bring us back to a time period where we can get a feel for how our ancestors lived and survived.
