Honoured to be invited to AIIMS as faculty for the Direct Anterior Approach (DAA) Hip Replacement course.

Had the opportunity to demonstrate DAA hip replacement on a cadaver at one of the hands-on stations and also moderated a scientific session—a truly enriching academic experience.

Standing in the same corridors of AIIMS brought back memories. I stood here years ago as a PG aspirant and appeared for the AIIMS entrance examination three times in 2004.
After many years, to return to the same institution—this time as a hip specialist and invited faculty—was deeply humbling and emotional. Life truly comes full circle.

It was wonderful to meet old friends and make new ones, and to have long, meaningful conversations about life, orthopaedics, evolving surgical philosophies, the growth of DAA in India, and global trends in hip arthroplasty.

Icing on the cake was meeting the Director of AIIMS in his chamber and having a very pleasant interaction—a simple, humble, and gracious gentleman.

My sincere thanks to Dr Vikrant and the Department of Orthopaedics, AIIMS, for organizing such a wonderful program and for the kind invitation and opportunity.

Bangalore Knee Conference 2025What began as a small idea three years ago transformed into a dream come true this year, with the third edition of the Bangalore Knee Conference 2025, conceptualised and crafted by me as the Organising Chairperson.
I was truly honored to bring together some of the finest stalwarts of Orthopaedics from across the country on one platform, delivering 16 live/relive surgeries witnessed by 300 +delegates. Months of dedication, planning, and hard work from me and my wonderful team culminated in an event we will all remember with pride.
My heartfelt gratitude to my team members, colleagues, faculty, delegates, event managers, hotel and technical staff—every single person who played a role in turning this dream into a grand success.

Today, I had the opportunity to use RECLAIM, a DePuy revision hip stem, for the very first time.

What struck me most during the procedure was how thoughtfully designed the stem is. The flat distal end ensured there was no anterior cortex impingement, making insertion smooth and controlled. I also found that it provided both rotational and axial stability, which is critical in revision settings. Overall, it was a stem that was easy to insert while still giving confidence in fixation.

Adopting new technology is never just about the implant — it’s about trust, learning, and commitment to providing better outcomes for our patients. This first experience with RECLAIM has been a step forward in that journey, and I look forward to building on it further.

A short but highly valuable visit to the European Hip Centre / Dr. Vandeputte to witness and assist in Direct Anterior Approach (DAA) total hip replacements.
In just one working day, from 8 AM to 5 PM, in a single operating room, we observed 8 total hip replacementsperformed using the DAA technique—smoothly, systematically, and without any sense of rush. No chaos, no loud voices, no cutting corners—just a regular day with extraordinary precision.
A highlight of the visit was meeting and interacting with Dr. Mahesh Kulkarni from Pune, a renowned surgeon who also joined the observership.
This marks my third visit to learn DAA:
* The first was in 2016 with Dr. Michel Nogler in Innsbruck. At that time, we lacked the dedicated instruments needed to continue DAA back home.
* The second was in 2022 in Herentals with Dr. Mike, combining DAA with arthroscopy—again, a valuable experience, but I couldn’t implement it immediately.
* Then in October 2024, something clicked. One fine day, instead of the posterior approach, I decided to try DAA—it took 90 minutes longer than usual, but that moment reignited my interest. Since then, I've been selectively performing DAA whenever the indication is ideal.
This latest visit has further deepened my understanding and will undoubtedly help refine my skills. As they say, learning never stops.
