I blinked and it's somehow already May! Here's an update thought vomit about my thoughts on the future of this channel.
My goal for the rest of the year is to post 5-6 videos per month at least, and for May it'll be a "spring cleaning" of many old projects I never got the chance to complete, including bringing back the "Indie Dev Spotlight" series that I want to do monthly from now on (it was supposed to be last month, but I've gotten busy lately).
I also want to bring this channel the videos you want and the growth I know it deserves (pardon how 'bullsh*t market speaky' that sounds). When I go about making videos, I have always chosen topics I want to cover, and while that won't change much, I am going to be incorporating what I know you guys (and the general VN audience) want to see for my future videos.
My goal for this channel has always been to share my love of visual novels and help niche games gain popularity - but that also can't really happen if I am niche myself. I have actively avoiding making Top 10 VN/character tierlists, reviews of the most popular VNs, and generally overdone topic discussions, in favour of video ideas that I find actually interesting or unique, such as the tier list of "the worst VN heroines" I made around 4 years ago. From now on I'm not going to run away from these types of videos, with the immediate goal of audience growth and the end goal of having an audience I can actually promote neat indie VNs to - wouldn't it be neat to be able to promote an indie visual novel/game on my channel and make an indie devs entire day? That's what I want to see, even if it takes many years to grow an audience of that size (let's be honest, I'll be reading VNs til I'm an old man probably).
I am not blind to the fact that my most popular videos are either videos with a underlying story line or drama videos, and when looking at my recent videos I can't help but feel stagnation in the quality of specifically my recent visual novel review videos - I guess you could call that a "skill issue" regarding my writing, but it's more like I can't fit all the edit quicks/style that I want to in a traditional review format. From now on I am going to be primarily focusing on my experiences with VNs/games with the undertone of a review rather than the opposite, because I feel it fits my editing style better.
With Needy Streamer Overload as an example, I'd heavily edit and condense my experience playing it (doing a couple of runs) while giving my thoughts here and there and a small review at the end. I plan to do this for Needy Streamer Overload and Magical Princess this month, and depending on people's interest I'll adjust from there. I am not stopping doing traditional reviews entirely however, because there are some I'd still love to do and I know many of you want to see those as well, but I think the variety will be nice.
All that to say I'll keep doing what I'm doing. Thanks if you read this and I appreciate your continued support. <3
Guess I'll go to the gym now since some commenter recently called me fat 🫡
A video should be coming later today (~9 hours from this post give or take). I have about 5 scripts done, and have mostly been sitting on them while I've been working on my personal health and work.
And - admittedly - in pretty much all of my free time, I have been playing Noctuary (might be the best thing I read/played this year - still not finished it though).
Once things even out, I hope to post at least one video a week. I might start streaming the indie games I play for the future indie VN spotlights I do (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZdYH... like this one) if people want to keep seeing that, but we'll see.
The second most viewed video I've now done this year - my most recent one, about a DRPG, of all things - has indicated to me how I should approach video creation and video topics in the future. I.E. more storytelling and not always VN videos.
90% of my "game time" is still reading visual novels, and that'll be reflected in my uploads, but people seem to be open to anime-adjacent games in general, and I will be considering that for future videos. This channel used to be a general review channel before it pivoted to visual novels (I did reviews on Borderlands and Minecraft Dungeons, now privated because they suck lol), and frankly I wouldn't mind approaching slightly broadening my horizon. But at the end of the day, I am still a weeb, so it's not like that''ll ever change.
Anyway, videos resume tomorrow. I've been working on writing the script for my Last Defense Academy review so long and I'm still not done, so I'm gonna do some short videos until I'm finished.
Reviews I hope to do for the rest of this month: - Landmine Princess (interesting stylized dating sim) - Dere Quartet (AI VN...) - The NOexistenceN of you AND me (Chinese VN about tulpas and philosophy) - Girls! Girls! Girls!? (femboys) - Country Siblings (sibling dating sim)
Hopefully we'll get that LDA review done eventually, but I'd rather do it right (and once Shadowverse: Beyond Worlds comes out the progress will probably slow down for a week until I'm bored of that, so c'est la vie).
Hello all, I hope you've been liking the content. Once I started The Hundred Line I sorta got busy, but I want to keep pushing at least weekly content.
Making a Madoka Magica fan game video soon, amongst others - the VNs in this fandom are both insane and incredible and might be worth a look out. Below is a picture of the thumbnail which you can't see the entirety of it but I promise you the Madoka games are the most ridiculous I have ever read.
For anyone interested, I started a new gameplay/gacha related channel here: youtube.com/@ItsBrucester and want to keep my video essays on this channel in general. I chose to do this because the last poll I did was not conclusive about what kind of content I should make, so I'd rather try to stay in VN territory than be a nuisance.
Please recommend me things, or gameplay things that might be shown @ItsBrucester , and I'd love to comply.
Happy 27th birthday to me, happy 5th birthday day to this channel on focusing on VNs, and happy near 10 years of me doing Youtube. Time flies and I love you all, even if I only made videos for 20 people for 7 years of my Youtuber life.
Based on the last poll, I am gonna stretch out my reach a bit, but we will always love visual novels. Also, I have fate/stay night in my library and I can't retire from VN reviews until I review that.
Are you guys more interested in visual novel content, or CONTENT I make. To be absolutely honest with you all, I haven't read a visual novel since August (mostly reading manga) and I am SUPER into a gacha game right now.
So I pass the baton to you guys before I start the content train again, can I make videos on anime adjacent things (MiSide, manga, anime, etc while not abandoning VNs) or do you want a VN review tomorrow xd

To the beautiful people out there, I need to ask a question to settle a debate with a friend: Is Danganronpa a visual novel?
