This is our bipolar disorder. Our experiences. Our bipolar community. Here at Our Bipolar, we redefine bipolar disorder through personal stories and community.
Welcome in! I’m Jess Curtis, wife, mom, editor, and bipolar advocate.
I’ve had 27 years of experience living with bipolar: mania, psychosis, depression, hypomania, mixed episodes, and yes, stability (the holy grail!). I talk about all of it to give a fuller picture of life with bipolar.
This channel strives to break stigma, offer support, and promote better understanding of bipolar disorder.

Our Bipolar
Sometimes we get so bogged down with bipolar disorder that we forget to enjoy life.
There are times that we deal with mania, hypomania, mixed episodes, and depression, but there are also times of stability. Some of us even enjoy episodes like hypomania.
We are dynamic individuals who have experienced things that most people can only dream about while they sleep. To be fair, those dreams are sometimes nightmares.
Most of us are far more empathetic than the average person based on everything we’ve been through. I’ve seen studies showing that we have great intelligence and creativity, among other attributes.
Bipolar can’t keep me down all the time. Maybe sometimes, but I always come back to myself.
I’m going to enjoy life whenever I can. As much as I can. As often as I can.

Selena. Halsey. Mariah. Demi. Even Kanye. They all have bipolar disorder and are extremely talented and famous.
I didn’t get that version of bipolar. I minored in art in college, but I’m no van Gogh. My 10-year-old daughter draws better than me.
I’m pretty average in terms of creativity and talent. And you know what? That’s fine with me.
I couldn’t handle a life in the limelight. The stress would give me even more bipolar episodes. No thank you ma’am.
I’ll take my simple life any day. 💁🏻♀️

Obviously it’s not quite that simple, but sleep is medicine for bipolar disorder.
Along with actual bipolar meds, sleep can be the difference between no symptoms at all and full-blown mania with psychosis.
I got a good night’s sleep and needed it. Taking the win.

I made this because it's how I feel about my YT video that I posted today.
With bipolar, sometimes we have symptoms, sometimes we don't, and sometimes we're not sure.
Every single person I know who has bipolar is deeply multifaceted and dynamic.
It's not because they're hypomanic. It's who they are.

Important❗️ I’m a bit unhinged in this video, but I can be unhinged and NOT manic.
People with bipolar contain multitudes, just like neurotypicals.
Sometimes it’s just a bad day. But sometimes a bad day means bipolar symptoms are coming or even already here. 😬
If you’ve ever questioned whether you’re about to have bipolar symptoms while struggling through a hard time, I hope you can relate.
And if you don’t have bipolar, this is what life with the illness can be like even when stable.
