DREAMS
Anna Dudyk (Анни Дудик) is a Ukrainian little girl. In April 2024, she and her father took a happy photo together in Lviv (Ukraine). She didn't know that was the last photo they took together. Her father, Oleksiy Dudyk "Lexus" (Олексій Дудик «Лексус»), a soldier, never came back. Anna was five years old.
Anna prays every night to see her father in her dreams and for an angel to look after him in heaven.
The painting describes the meeting of Anna and her father in a dream, with an angel protecting them. Anna is happy to see her father and to be in his loving arms again. They are wearing their traditional clothes. It is a mixture of feelings in his father, and their protector.
In September 2025, Anna started her first grade. A fellow soldier from her hometown brigade, Roman Rodin, and veteran Petro Buryak held her hand and took her to school.
Anna is now 6 years old. She continues her life, grows up, and will celebrate more birthdays with her mother and friends, but she will never have a chance to see her dad again.
Anna's story is one of the many stories about children suffering from wars, not only in Ukraine but also everywhere else.
Thank you Teresa Fusco , my beloved friend, for sharing with me the story of Anna, and for giving me suggestions to brainstorm and finish this painting! The painting has been to the US, UK, and will finally settle in Ukraine, thanks to Teresa, David Elley, and his friend.
