AI and Games
Greetings from Gamescom! It's been a crazy few days as I presented a talk at Devcom on Monday, and then meetings every day with games studios on how the work I do in training and consultancy can help them out. Plus chats with our sponsors of the @AIandGamesConference as we get ready to run our 2025 event in November.
Also I want to give a shout-out to all of the game devs who I bumped into who are a fan of what we do here on @AIandGames. It's always great to see the impact this little YouTube channel can have on the industry.
Sadly I'm leaving today having only played one game. It's the reality of coming to Gamescom to do business. I walked past the booths of stuff like Resident Evil, Metroid Prime 4 and Hollow Knight in between meetings. But the queues were crazy long. Maybe next year!

After a few years politely not asking for your support, I'm back running a subscriber drive for 2025 - with 20% off for annual memberships until October 1st.
I'll be publishing a YouTube video soon, but we dug into our plans over on the newsletter this week.
We want to be making more videos, publishing more stories, interviewing more developers, and we need your help to make that happen.
Check it out at:

Back with another issue of the AI and Games newsletter, and this week it’s all about Nvidia’s attempt to get an AI-powered hint system patented in the UK. It looks like things didn’t work out for them, and I explain why

What started as a newsletter issue reflecting on my predictions for 2025 - and how horribly right I was - turned into a larger conversation of the one thing I failed to predict. How game storefronts have failed to mitigate and prevent the influx of AI-laden shovelware. It's a real mess, and only getting worse.

This weeks newsletter over on AIandGames.com is a summary of the talks I saw at the @GameAISchool over in Malmo (Sweden) last month, including work from Massive Entertainment, EA's SEED, Rovio, Tencent, and more. Thanks again to the organisers for having me present (both as a speaker and panel moderator) and fingers crossed I'll make it back next year.

With the standalone DLC for Robocop: Rogue City launching tomorrow, I figured let's jump back into the game (which I only finished streaming earlier this year) and check it out! See you Thursday!

I'm finally home long enough to consider streaming again (been attending a lot of events recently). So I'll be returning to my playthrough of Aliens: Dark Descent tomorrow over on my second channel @AIandGamesPlus. See you there!

In this week's edition of the AI and Games newsletter, I talk about how games are being dragged into controversy due to their adoption of AI-generated assets. This past month alone both The Alters and Jurassic World Evolution 3 have received significant backlash on social media as a result. We dig into how this comes to be, highlight that I warned this would happen years ago, and how critically it's a problem the industry made for itself.

A big thank you for checking out our shiny new Alien: Isolation Retrospective. You just broke the record for most views of a new video in its first 24 hours on @AIandGames - a record which was set back in 2020 for my video on, you guessed it, Alien: Isolation.

After weeks of reviews, tweaks and adjustments the Alien: Isolation Retrospective is almost ready.
I watched the (near final) version from start to finish today, and we just have some final edits to make, and to get the all-important signoff from Sega and Disney.
Not long now!
