Formerly Hetman Mapping. History told through maps.

Note that all videos pre-2024 made heavy use of Wikipedia and had very poor source standards, following none of Chicago, APA or MLA. These videos are (for now) the standard among video mapping source quality but on the absolute are poorly sourced and thus very difficult to verify. Videos from 2024 onwards use APA7 (and from around 2025 onwards, Chicago) with very transparent source lists that make verification easy and which make no use of Wikipedia whatsoever. These videos can be treated as authoritative.

My next video will be on the Samorian state (Wassoulou Empire).

Based on the results of last week's poll, I have made the music from my video, "Our Story Begins" by Kevin MacLeod (Slowed), public. I have also made another piece public, this being some Circassian music which was deleted from YouTube years ago, public.

Otherwise, my next video will be on the Caliphate of Hamdallaye (Hamdullahi).

For my latest video, I used a slowed version of music which cannot be found anywhere else online. I plan on releasing the music and adding a link to it in my Umarian Empire video. I do not know if I leave the video unlisted or make it public, so I ask you.

In the end, my next project will not be East Africa WW1, but rather the Umarian Empire (Tukulor Empire), a Fulani jihad state of 19th century Mali.

For my next project, I will be making a sci-fi mapping video, so more akin to the alternative history videos I released on my channel prior to 2022. After that, I plan on resuming work on my WW1 East Africa video, as I have the research done and frames up until May 1915 done. In the meantime, I strongly suggest watching this video by my friend @SheepAtlas on South West Africa during WW1. Along with the well-made map and informative infobox, I like his excellent and neatly-organized source document. His work makes a grand video on WW1 in Africa one step closer to reality, so do make sure to subscribe to him.

My latest video, covering the Lobi resistance to French, British and Samorian rule (more generally, to colonialism) has been released. This video was made as part of the Untold Black History II collaboration, which aims to showcase the more obscure aspects of black/African history as part of Black History Month. A link to the project can be found in the infobox of the video while I will add a pinned comment later in the day when I wake up.

Hello again. Last month I switched my profile picture. I plan on creating a smaller file in the future more sited for a channel icon. When I first switched to my old profile picture my intention was to buy the telescope in the picture. As I never did, I wanted to switch to something more related to maps.

As for my next video, it will be on the Oyo Empire and it's successor states. I also have made some progress on the Ivory Coast by dividing that video into more manageable parts, the first of which will be on the Lobi resistance to colonialism.

While I work on the Ivory Coast at a glacial pace, here's a project on Burundi and Rwanda in World War I. The initial goal was to do Burundi, Rwanda and Tanzania (or, the East Africa Campaign) but enough details in the first two countries emerged to justify splitting the project into two videos.

My next project will be on World War I in Benin and Togo. It will begin some months before the war itself and have an emphasis on relating anti colonial rebellions throughout 1914-18 to the First World War

I've put my Ivory Coast project on hold for now to instead work on some smaller projects. The first of which, Mali and Burkina Faso in World War I, is shown below. I will also change this channel's name when that video releases, the new name is in the image below.
