The reason Charlie's death is so impactful is because he was a young man whose sole purpose was to promote free speech and the word of God. He wasn't a politician or a news anchor; he held no real power other than that which was provided by the first amendment. He started in a time when many like him felt they could not say their thoughts out loud, and he inspired them to speak their minds by leading in the most peaceful way possible. No one had to listen. You could block his channels. You could walk past his events. Just as Charlie represented those who felt silenced, his murderer represents people too. He represents the intolerant left who become violent when their ideology is opposed, even through peaceful dialogue.
