Confidence is the key to speaking English.

Never apologise for your English level, or speak negatively about your English ability.

Be proud of your current level and feel excited about building on what you currently have.

If you are confident with your current ability this will allow you to take more risks and make mistakes. Which will ultimately improve your speaking ability!

Be confident in yourself 🙌😀

So phrasal verbs are challenging, aren't they?

Do you ever feel that they are too difficult to learn and impossible to remember when and where to use them?
Actually, that's a natural feeling, I wouldn't worry about it.

Let's take the phrasal verb 'PICK UP' as our example for today. I'm sure you know the most common meanings of this phrasal verb, which is to lift something up from a surface or to collect something or someone from a place. These two are possibly the most popular scenarios that this phrasal verb is used in.

However, if you've only learnt them for these contexts then you are missing out on how to use it in at least another 5 situations. What if I told you the it could be used when you want to describe sales or trends to increase, grow or improve? That's just one other way to use it.

"In the first half of the year sales were very slow but they picked up in May and have continued to improve,"

Make sure you are not just learning the meanings of these phrases, you need to learn them in contextual situations. Why? Well, that's because you'll remember when and where to use them easier, it'll feel a bit more natural for you to use.

My last video covered this and shows 5 ways to use the phrasal verb 'PICK UP'.

Happy learning!

Maybe you have noticed, maybe you haven't ........ Anyway, I changed the name of the channel.

Why? What was wrong with 'English lingo'? Well, nothing was wrong with it, I actually liked the name, however, I wanted to make it a little more personal and wanted to connect with people on a more personal level.

I hope you don't mind the change and I want to thank all of you for your continued support.

I've got some cool videos coming up soon and I promise that I will be a lot more consistent in the coming weeks/months.

Also, if you're interested in learning more business phrasal verbs, I'm running a workshop on Saturday May 3rd, now is the early bird price, it'll go up in a week, limited spaces available. Here's the link: buy.stripe.com/8wM9EH6ncdmA0h214u

If not, no worries at all.

See you all very soon in new video.

If you feel your English is not good, you're probably lacking in confidence.

So, where do you get confidence from?
Well, I can certainly tell you that you aren't going to get confidence from a textbook. It's just not possible. It doesn't matter how many textbooks you read or study they aren't going to give you confidence in speaking English.
Think about it.........when have you ever seen someone using their textbook when they are talking to someone?

They only way you are going to feel confident in speaking English is if you practice! That's the way you build your confidence because you are making mistakes and adjusting in a natural environment.

When learning Japanese, I'm far from good at it btw, I hated learning from textbooks, so I would just go out and try and learn natural phrases in daily situations. Did I make mistakes? Ohhhhhhh plenty. Was it embarrassing? Yeah, of course. However, it was the best way to get comfortable with making mistakes, eventually you don't worry so much.

Just to clarify, making mistakes is great if you are adjusting and improving those mistakes. It's a waste of time if you don't improve on those mistakes.

Go out and try, it could be face to face communication, on socials etc. Just try.

Hope that helps!
