Life on an Off-Grid Wilderness Island
Welcome to My Wild Holm. We’re Ryan and Melodi, and in 2022 we bought a 62-acre island on a remote lake in the Canadian wilderness.
Since then, we’ve been building an off-grid homestead from the ground up, one project, one mistake, and one hard-earned lesson at a time.
We’re not trying to disappear from the modern world completely. We’re focused on building a life that brings together wilderness freedom, practical self-reliance, solar power, internet access with as many of the modern comforts that will make this place livable for the long haul.
Follow along as we turn a raw wilderness island into an off-grid home, with all the work, weather, wildlife, setbacks, systems and everyday learning that comes along with it.

Over the years, our Thursday-night livestreams have grown into something special of their own—a place where we can slow down, visit with all of you, answer questions, share ideas and information, and spend time together.
So we’ve created My Wild Holm — Open House.
Think of it as another room in the same home. The main channel is where we share the journey. Open House is where we sit down and talk about it together.
Our Thursday-night livestreams will now have a home of their own, along with relaxed conversations, behind-the-scenes stories, questions and answers, and a few other things we’ve been wanting to try.

Good morning to you all! We are picking up Pepper the Kubota today and we also have the worm farm in our possession... They've moved into their condo from the shipping box and have already migrated down deep into their new home so all is looking well without one casualty as far as we can tell. This will be a good thing for our island (compost for better soil and worms for bait). An all around win-win!! We are sorry to have to CANCEL our livestream this week but please make sure you go in and check out our last episode. We appreciate you soooo much! #mywildholm #wormfarm #vermiculture
