A few people we've had the pleasure of working with lately. Less than a year ago, I partnered up with a friend of mine and took to market portable cold plunge tubs and water chillers. It's been a pretty wild ride so far and when the time is right, I can't wait to sit down and share with you guys this journey I've been on as of late.

Sup creatives? Been a hot minute.
If you've watched my most recent upload and/or follow me on Instagram, you'll know that a little less than a year ago, I started a business taking to market portable cold plunges (e-commerce company, something that is totally new to me).
Of course, me being a videographer, I handle all of our content creation. This past couple of weeks, I've filmed the following cinematic athletic videos and will be doing a step-by-step of how I filmed every single niche of athlete based content:
- Body building
- Power lifting
- Basketball
- Football
- HITT cardio
- Ballet/dance
- Crossfit
- MMA fighting
- Boxing
- Yoga
Full breakdowns coming very soon! Let's get back to sharing some quality tutorial content.

Not gonna' lie, I stopped posting a ton of YouTube content because I felt my career was at a bit of a standstill in regards to learning new techniques etc in the industry. Why continue making filmmaking tutorials if it's the same old thing just regurgitated in a different environment?
I've always been about providing real and raw value on this channel and I'm not going to post if I don't think I can provide new and improved value. This past 6 months that I've stepped away from the platform, I've taken the time to learn and re-ground myself rather than getting thrown into the same old b.s loop of going through the motions. Things I will be touching on on this channel in 2024 that you may find valuable as a content creator / entrepreneur:
- Mistakes I made starting a video production company
- How to start a business in 2024
- How To DIT as a filmmaker (organizing files properly)
- How To create dailies on film sets
- How to create assemblies on film sets
- Ask for equity over money with video clients (start multiple businesses)
- How my portable ice bath business was evaluated at 7 figures in 1 year
- The power of videography to own multiple businesses
- Should you create educational filmmaking content as a filmmaking noob?
- How much can you REALISTICALLY make as a freelance videographer?
- My go-to lighting setup for interviews
- How to scale a business fast, what is required
- The secret to a sharp mind as a videographer
- What are you prime age years as a videographer (realistically)
- How many businesses I was a part of that didn't work out and why
- Do I still film free or discounted videos in 2024?
- How to stay ahead of AI taking over for filmmakers
- Why I might shut down my filmmaking business in the next 2 years

DO YOU NEED A FILM DEGREE TO TAP INTO THE INDUSTRY?!...
From my personal experience as of last week, I would say that a film degree will help you, but isn't absolutely necessary.
I just got home from a 2 week long feature film set. Totally out of my comfort zone, but I took the opportunity as a learning experience.
I was hired onto this feature film as a DIT. Essentially, I would make sure all video and audio files were backed up onto multiple drives and organized properly. I was also in charge of editing dailies (editing every clip shot each day into one timeline) and editing assembly's (rough cut of dialogue and scenes day to day and sent to the producer and director to double check the rough flow of each scene).
Being that this wasn't a MASSIVE budget feature film, but still a crew of at least a solid 30 industry professionals, I was thrown into the mix whether it be capturing drone shots on days we were on a time crunch or hopping on the dolly with an Arri Alexa to capture some Broll footage for the film.
I was also asked if I could be the editor for the entire film, which is super exciting.
Keep in mind, guys, I took on all of these roles on and off set with zero film degree or schooling. Hell, I actually am a university drop out, haha. Sure, I've been filming professional videos for upwards of 7 years now, full time... but that was more than enough for the producer of this feature film to have enough trust in my abilities to be thrown into the fire and execute on my tasks on and off set.
At the end of the day, this was an unbelievable learning experience and am spending the rest of March editing through this movie. Over time, your work will just speak for itself and the degree won't even be a question.
Once this movie edit is officially wrapped up, I will be creating a few tutorials on my DIT workflow on a film set along with my experience editing my first feature film.

Some of my favourite stills captured on our last content shoot for Kryo Therapy! Life has been pretty hectic as of late and once things slow down, I have a wack load of YouTube content I want to put out. As big of a hiatus as I've been on this past few months from this platform, it's almost a blessing as I've been learning loads about filmmaking and business in general that I want to chat about on the channel.
I'm one of the co-founders at Kryo where we took to market portable ice baths. I handle all of our visuals including video content, photos and digital ad content. We launched late November of 2023 and completely sold out of our first batch of product 1 month into the business. This helped fund our newest product, The Kryo Plunge which is a higher ticket cold plunge that comes with our custom one-off chiller unit that brings water temperatures in the portable tub down to 1 degree celsius (our tech makes us the coldest portable cold plunge in the world, currently).
Week to week, you can still find me filming freelance videos for retainer / one-off clients as well as dabbling in the film scene which I'm currently on a 2 week movie set as the DIT and will be taking on the edit for the entire month of March.
Lots on the go and it's unfortunately taken away every minute from producing YouTube content. Maybe I need to hire an editor for this channel, haha.
As always guys, I appreciate the ongoing support for sticking around. Can't wait to fill everybody in with new tutorial content in the near future.

I've been pretty absent from YouTube for the past little while here.. which sucks, because my goal for 2023 was to smash 100k subs.. which I didn't even come close. I think when it comes to YouTube, it's really easy, even for a channel like mine with 70,000 subscribers for creators to experience burnout when the content continues to flop in views even though I know my tutorials are super valuable as I apply everything I say in my tutorials onto my own sets and find success in those teachings. I know that YouTube isn't about 'views', but the burnout comes from not seeing growth. Often times, YouTube videos do take upwards of 6 months to gain any sort of real traction. So it's tough to gauge what content works and what doesn't.
Last night, I was hired out to film an event recap video of recording artist Pressa in my home base city, Regina, Saskatchewan.
It's been a minute since I've filmed any artist event recap show and I must say, the amount of love I received from people I've never met before along with local artists who were there networking was unbelievable. I couldn't have appreciated everyone who came up to chat with me more.
This low key sparked massive motivation for me to create YouTube content again. Specifically in the music video niche.
I've just felt this past year that music video tutorials are so saturated on YouTube that it's tough for creatives to take what one YouTuber says, while the other 100 YouTuber's are telling you to do things the complete opposite way. However, I guess it all comes down to putting your own personality into your content, showing the human side of you and sticking to that.
I'll continue to be a bit absent from this channel for a couple months as I bulk shoot, edit and schedule out weekly tutorials on the channel. I just can't stand being inconsistent on this channel anymore and want to drip feed everyone the tutorials that kick started this channel to begin with. Not to mention, bringing back a bi-weekly YouTube livestream as I feel I connected best with my community on those streams.
Thank you everyone who's been riding with me for a hot minute. I appreciate you all more than ya know!

Yep.. thatβs me about to get into a tub of 2 degree Celsius waterβ¦ aka COLD PLUNGE π₯Ά A friend of mine and I are launching a new business selling portable ice baths. What does this mean for the channel?!ππ₯
Being a content creator now for almost a decade, the past few years especially, content creation for start up businesses and even established businesses need content like never before. So, as a professional videographer, I was asked to be a partner in this company, Kryo Health & Wellness to curate consistent high quality content for this brand along with run our social media channels.
Being that this product is in the health and wellness space, you can expect a TON of fitness related YouTube behind the scenes content filming for local athletes all the way up to high profile influencers that we have lined up to promote our product.
I love shooting music videos and will continue to shoot them.. but I would say fitness filmmaking ties for #1 in my books for my favourite content of all time to film.
As videographers, there is always potential to be a business partner in companies outside of starting a filmmaking business. Having a business partner that can produce high quality photo and video content at the companies finger tips saves the start up thousands of dollars.
So far, Iβve shot around 10 high end fitness videos involving these ice baths and have chopped up around 40 social media vertical videos that will double up as paid ad content. For that package of work, my rates would sit well over $15,000. Because we can pour sweat equity into our brand, in turn, we donβt have to pay a dime for our marketing other than our FB/IG ad spend.
