Another satisfied customer!
This custom fan trench coat started with a fleece blanket, a few pair of jeans and Simplicity pattern S9389.
one of the ways I love to upcycle is by using the structure of a pattern mixed combined with unexpected textiles to create something completely new.
So many details in this piece!
If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to turn old textiles into something wearable, I’m hosting a Virtual Upcycle Sewing Lab on March 21st where we’ll work through projects like this together.
What would you upcycle first — a jacket, jeans, or a blanket?
Comment LAB and I’ll send you the details.

Fit for a King…
Seeing King Charles sitting front row at London Fashion Week honestly caught me off guard at first.
But then I thought about it… and it actually made perfect sense.
He was there supporting British-Nigerian designer Tolu Coker, whose work really leans into identity, heritage, and social history through clothing. She’s one of those designers whose work has depth behind it — not just fashion for fashion’s sake.
What’s interesting is that earlier in her career, she received support from the King’s Trust while building her brand.
That organization — originally The Prince’s Trust, founded back in 1976 — was created to help young people access training, funding, and real career pathways. And that includes creatives. Designers. Makers. Entrepreneurs. People trying to build something from nothing.
So when I saw him at her show, it stopped feeling like a random celebrity appearance.
It felt more like a full-circle moment.
Not the king showing up to be seen…
but the king showing up for someone whose journey his foundation helped start.
And honestly, moments like that matter more than people think.
Working in design and wardrobe myself, I know talent alone isn’t always what moves things forward. Visibility matters. Access matters. Someone opening a door matters. Support at the right time can shift everything — not just for a designer’s career, but for who even gets to enter the room in the first place.
I’ll be really curious to see what this does for her brand, because moments like that tend to travel far beyond the runway.
It also makes me wonder though…
Does institutional support still carry the same weight in fashion today?
Or has influence shifted somewhere else?
Curious what you think.

The Upcycle Sewing Lab is a live monthly virtual session where you bring your own garment, learn a practical technique, and get guidance while you sew.
This isn’t a beginner step-by-step class where everyone makes the same thing.
It’s a supportive space where you can actually move your project forward instead of guessing alone.
First session: March 21
Class fee: $45

I loved watching Durand Bernarr’s mom during his Grammy acceptance speech.
I was smiling ear to ear because my son can sing the ABCs, and I would be the first one yelling, clapping, and telling folks he’s the greatest to ever do it.
PARENTS - If your child is an artist, this is the kind of energy they need.
There are so many people looking at them sideways—doubting them—while being envious of their determination at the same time.
Moments like these are when I credit my parents and my siblings the most.
They never told me my dream of being a fashion designer was strange.
They never batted an eye when I was 17—sewing for hair shows, vending events, and going to unknown places with my sewing machine and clothing rack in tow.
As two blue-collar workers whose idea of success was a job, a Cadillac, and a retirement plan, I was walking into the unknown.
But -
They dropped me off.
They encouraged me.
They showed up when needed.
Even when I decided to pick up and move across the country with dreams of working in television and movies, my mother never planted doubt or told me I couldn’t do it.
Parents—supporting your artist child isn’t always easy, but belief is fuel.
Sometimes your confidence is the only thing standing between them and giving up.
It definitely starts at home.
And that kind of support lasts a lifetime.

Officially wrapped on movie #4 in just a little over a year. It’s been a whirlwind of learning on the fly, long hours, new locations and my favorite- meeting new people.
Through it all, I wouldn't have it any other way.
Beyond proud of the wardrobe department’s work and so grateful to the incredible crew and cast who made the magic happen.
Can't wait to see the finished product come to life on the big screen. 🎥
Now, it’s time to pack up the kit, reset, and get ready for the next project. I am ready.

There’s been a lot of conversation around Nicki Minaj lately, but one thing she said stood out:
“It’s okay to change your mind.”
I agree.
People change their minds all the time — in life, in business, and in how they choose to move through the world.
Growth is personal.
Pivots don’t always need to make sense to everyone watching.
Sometimes a change isn’t about progress —
it’s about clarity, self-preservation, or choosing peace.
And that counts too.
