Great design often has a hidden grid.
You don’t see it , but it’s always there.
Quietly guiding every element,
holding the layout together without ever demanding attention.

We don’t talk about it much.
But without it, things start to drift.
Headlines would feel off. Spacing may fail.
The harmony breaks, even if you can’t explain why.

That’s the power of invisible structure.
Of the unseen systems that bring clarity and cohesion.
The truth is: Most great work rests on things the audience never notices.

That’s your job as a designer...
To build frameworks people don’t even realise they’re responding to.
To create an emotion or reaction on a subconscious level.
To master what doesn’t show… but holds everything in place.

And maybe it’s true in life, too:
Sometimes, the most important parts of something
are the aspects no one really sees, but the ones that are felt.

Happy Saturday Designers!

Events this week and this month have made me realise something important..
Sometimes in your career, things might not go as planned. A project might fall through. A client may disappear entirely. Heck, your computer might completely crash out on you

But then, almost quietly, something better could step in. This might be in the form of a new opportunity or a new connection. Even something as subtle as a moment of clarity that inspires. But what you once thought of as important, may be replaced by something more profound and fulfilling.

As designers, it’s easy to cling to what was because we invested time, emotion, and creative energy. BUT, how you deal with an upset in your workflow is important. Below are 3 advanced ways to think..

Advanced Tip 1
Even scrapped client ideas can be turned into case studies, mockups, recycled into a different project, or content for your portfolio. A rejected layout could be reworked into an Instagram carousel for example.

Advanced Tip 2
Every time a project ends (or falls through), do a quick solo review. What worked? What didn’t? What would you do differently? This habit makes you sharper with every project, and you need to look at yourself and your approach objectively.

Advanced Tip 3
Sometimes the end of a client project is your cue to upgrade your process. Did they ghost after delivery for example? Did things not get passed the discussion phase? It might be time to rethink your onboarding, payment milestones, or communication structure. Your best systems will often come from your worst headaches.

Have a great weekend!

In case you missed it, I got to chat with an awesome designer and person as the first true podcast on this channel.

However, I am thinking of starting a different channel just dedicated to podcasts and interviews with great creative minds in our field. If you think that's a good or bad idea, drop a comment and have a great day.

Let’s talk about two things most designers face at some point: imposter syndrome and knowing our worth.

Imposter syndrome isn’t a sign that you’re failing, rather it's likely proof that you’re growing.
Every time you push beyond your comfort zone, that little voice of doubt can creep in.
But remember, it’s just the echo of your progress.
Look at your actions and results rather than listen to the voice in your head.

Knowing your worth is just as important.
If you undervalue yourself, others will too.

The industry is full of talented creatives, but confidence in your skills sets you apart.

So, ask yourself:
Are you pricing based on value, or fear of losing a client?
Do you say “yes” to lowball offers out of self-doubt?
Would you hire yourself at your current rate?

Charge what you're worth.
Stand by your expertise.
And most importantly, believe in yourself as much as you believe in your passion and skillset.

The Power of Clarity in Design (and in You)

Good design isn’t just about making things look nice... it’s about making things clear.
The same goes for your mindset.

If your design is cluttered, people get lost.
If your mind is cluttered, your creativity and confidence becomes lost.

The best designers aren’t the ones who add the most, they’re the ones that add enough to create the value and communication that is needed.

The same principle applies to presence as a creative:
✅ When your thoughts are clear, your ideas flow.
✅ When your focus is sharp, your work improves.
✅ When your mindset is intentional, your career grows.

In both design and life, clarity wins.
Simplify.
Focus.
Create.

👇
And if you have read down to here, kudos. Here's what truly matters.
When you design with clarity and a focus on communication, you naturally feel more confident in your work and skills.
The same principle applies to life; when you move through the world with a clear mind and an uncluttered approach, confidence will inevitably follow.

Have a great weekend <3

We are 2 months deep into 2025.
But what are the things you personally need to focus on to get to where you want to be as a designer?

Being aware of, and focusing on your goals on a regular basis, keeps them fresh in your consciousness. And that's the only way you can actively achieve them.

So, where are you heading, and how??

As a designer, it’s easy to stay focused when things are stable, when everything makes sense. But what about when your world turns upside down?

Steve Jobs was famously fired from Apple in 1985. The company he built turned its back on him, and he said it was one of the most painful moments of his life. But it was in that exile that he rebuilt himself. He co-founded Pixar, and went on to develop numerous groundbreaking ideas that became his legacy.

Life has thrown a lot my way recently (even though I induced it)... balancing creative work, personal challenges, and navigating what felt like utter chaos. And in that chaos I became totally lost for a while, but somewhere and somehow, something shifted.
I'm now designing differently, approaching creativity from a different perspective, and most importantly, moving forward with a fresh level of clarity and discipline in my work. But crucially a discipline that is somehow effortless in nature.
Although a large generalisation, I do like what Ginni Rometty said.
Growth and comfort do not coexist – Ginni Rometty

We can sense and feel discomfort when we need to learn a new software tool for example, or when we're stepping into the wonderful world of colour psychology for the very first time. These experiences have a subtle layer of discomfort discretely woven into them, yet those who power through will see the reinvention of what they are capable of.
Crush it this week and do something that makes you feel a little on the uncomfortable side!
