UPDATE: A Los Angeles County judge sentenced the man convicted in the murder of rapper PnB Rock to 31 years to life in prison today.
Last month, a jury found Freddie Lee Trone, 42, guilty of murder, conspiracy to commit robbery and two counts of second-degree robbery.
Prosecutors said Trone directed his 17-year-old son to shoot and kill PnB Rock while he ate at a South Los Angeles Roscoe's House of Chicken & Waffles in 2022. The rapper, whose real name is Rakim Allen, was eating with his fiancée when Trone's son walked into the restaurant and demanded the musician's jewelry. The teen shot Allen, who later died at a local hospital.
"I want to extend my deepest condolences to the family, friends, and fans of Rakim Allen," District Attorney George Gascón said. "His life was cut short by an act of violence that no family should have to endure."
Trone denied having anything to do with the robbery and murder, even testifying that he wasn't there the day it happened. The video showed Trone in the parking lot of the restaurant about 30 minutes before the shooting. Trone testified that he had reason to be there because he was hustling business for his nearby beauty shop.
Prosecutors also charged Trone's now 19-year-old son. He remains in custody as a judge decides if he is competent to stand trial.
During last month's hearing, the jury also found co-defendant Tremont Jones guilty of two robbery counts and conspiracy to commit robbery related to the same 2022 incident. Jones was not charged with murder. The court sentenced him to 12 years in prison.

UPDATE: The man charged with sending his armed 17-year-old son into a Roscoe’s Chicken & Waffles restaurant to rob celebrated rapper PnB Rock was found guilty of felony murder, two counts of robbery and one count of conspiracy at a trial in Compton, CA on Wednesday.
The jury took less than four hours to decide Freddie Trone, 42, orchestrated the brazen daylight robbery that ultimately claimed the musician’s life. During nine days of testimony, jurors heard that the alleged teen shooter, charged separately in juvenile court, stalked into the restaurant wearing a ski mask and a “Fruity Pebbles” T-shirt and then opened fire on the artist and his fiancée Stephanie Sibounheuang only seconds after shouting, “If you don’t give me the jewelry, I’m going to blow her head off.” Sibounheuang had recounted the terrifying attack on the witness stand, saying Allen “threw” her under the table when the gunfire erupted. A medical examiner testified PnB Rock, born Rakim Allen, was shot once in the chest and twice in the back.
Trone’s co-defendant Tremont Jones, 46, also was found guilty Wednesday of two counts of robbery and one count of conspiracy. Prosecutors alleged Jones was the one who tipped Trone off to the rapper walking into the Roscoe’s with both Sibounheuang and a half-million dollars’ worth of jewelry on September 12, 2022. Sentencing for both men is set for August 27.
