The film score was co-produced by Jóhannsson and Randall Dunn (produced Sunn O)))) and features Sunn O)))’s Stephen O’Malley on guitar. The album was assembled posthumously in March 2018 with the help of co-producers Pepijn Caudron (Kreng) and Yair Glotman.

A Prayer to the Dynamo was written in response to a commission from the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. It received its first, and so far only performance at the orchestra’s New Music Festival on 3 February 2012. As noted by the festival’s curator, composer Matthew Patton, it represented a turning-point in Jóhannsson’s career, having been written without any of the narrative constraints involved in composing for film. “He never wrote a piece for orchestra this big, this long, and with this much freedom.” This recording will turn a much-deserved spotlight on to a work Patton has described as a “lost symphony” and introduce it to audiences worldwide. Deutsche Grammophon - DG announces the long-awaited release of Jóhann’s contemporary oratorio ’Drone Mass’.
Written for voices, strings and electronics, the previously unrecorded ‘Drone Mass’ was commissioned by ACME: American Contemporary Music Ensemble, and originally premiered in the Egyptian Temple of Dendur at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York in 2015.

Now, in collaboration with ACME, Theatre of Voices and conductor Paul Hillier, DG will release the recording, digitally and on CD + vinyl, on March 18th 2022.

Today, the transcendent piece ‘Two Is Apocryphal’ is out.
