Apple just placed a $2 Billion bet on the future. And history is repeating itself!
2013: Apple acquires a company called PrimeSense. The Result: By 2017, the iPhone X launches with Face ID changing how we unlock phones forever.
2026 (This Week): Apple confirms it has acquired a startup called Q.ai. The Cost: Nearly $2 BILLION. This is Apple’s second-largest acquisition ever, ranking just behind the Beats deal in 2014.
Why is this a big deal? It’s not just the money. It’s the person Q.ai was founded by Aviad Maizels — the exact same person who founded PrimeSense. Apple is betting on the same visionary twice.
So, what is coming next? If the first deal gave us facial recognition, this deal is about facial communication. The tech analyzes "facial skin micro movements" to allow for "silent speech". Imagine having "non-verbal discussions" with Siri just by moving your jaw muscles—no voice required.
With Jony Ive and OpenAI working on new hardware and Meta launching smart glasses, Apple is locking down the interface of the future.
