I can’t believe we’re here. It’s been almost 3 years since we first laid eyes on our property, 2.5 years since we loaded up the truck and hauled ourselves here for 8 weeks of experimentation with off grid life.

Now we’re on the edge of glory, nearly ready to move into this cabin.

If all goes to plan (or even close to plan) we’ll have 2 videos for you this week… and by the time the 2’nd posts, we should be sleeping in our beds at the cabin.

Snowstorm 2026, day 1
Although we weren’t exactly ready to move into the cabin, we’ve figured out how to make it work, and the kids are loving it.
The ‪@Sunfireheaters‬ unit we picked up a couple of months ago has saved our butts. It’s 11 degrees outside, and 70-80 in here.
We’re putting out a few extra videos this week to share the whole snow-mageddon experience. There’s so much we have learned, and come up with in the last 24 hours that will beef up our self sufficiency.

Nothing like an impromptu snow to show you what you’re weak on!

Opened another pallet of insulation today, and the boys promptly made a new bed. Thank God it’s sheep’s wool, right?
This will be Dave and Willie’s 2nd Christmas, Wade’s 5th, Santa might be bringing Dave a couch.

We’re anticipating a really wet weekend, so Woody will be up on the roof today helping the guys get all the sheathing on before the downpour begins.

He’s got his own harness and can tie off, so I’m not too worried. Feeling so grateful this morning for all that’s been done these last few weeks.

Between demolition, the guys knocking out the framing, and getting the well running, there’s a lot to celebrate.

Next big thing: SAWMILL 🌳
