Hi there! I’m Dagny Arizona Miller — an NYC-based Argentine tango dancer, teacher, performer, and creator.
On this channel, you’ll find my world of tango: technique, style, storytelling, and now… the beginnings of the Tango News Network, where I step into the role of Founder & Editor-in-Chief and your on-the-ground correspondent inside the tango community.
I started this channel thanks to my students, who inspired me to create a space where dancers everywhere can build strength, stability, coordination, and confidence from home. Over the years it has grown into a place for dancers to learn, explore, and feel connected to the larger tango world.
Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned dancer, my goal is to help you dance with more ease, expression, and understanding — and to bring you closer to the culture and community that make tango so magical.
Welcome to my world. Feel free to ask me anything!

Some must have tango accessories! 💃🏻 What do you always keep on hand?
Not only do I enjoy putting together a beautiful outfit for tango, but the accessories really tie it all together! I have also been getting into nail art recently as well, and I feel like it’s a little jeweled accessory that never leaves me 🤭💅🏼

The biggest shift in my dancing has not come from learning new steps, but rather becoming confident in myself as an artist. Belief in your own body makes a huge difference in landing like a question mark, and landing like you mean it. To me, true confidence comes from repetition- practicing so many times that failure is impossible. And if we fail (and we will), then being confident in our ability to adapt and readjust. In the mean time, here are some of my confidence tips that you can immediately put into practice!

Dressing up is one of the things I most look forward to in tango! It’s an amazing outlet for creativity, however I also know many have their “tango uniform” and always stick to that! Here are some tips on dressing for the different dancing occasions you may encounter in the tango world.
Send this to a beginner that you think may need some guidance 💃🏻🕺🏼

Every tanda is a mirror asking us how we want to show up. It demands that we confront our strengths, weaknesses, and everything in between. And if we aren’t scared to look in the mirror, we can become more radiant than we thought possible.😌
How has tango changed your life?
Until the next tanda,

One of our most interesting social practices in Argentine Tango is the “cabeceo.” While asking someone to dance verbally is a common practice, cabeceo is the traditional way for a leader to ask someone to dance in the milonga, and it is still widely used. Dancers scan the room, looking for a partner, and the followers return this silent invitation with a “mirada.” This sustained eye contact is the follower’s way the follower showing the leader that he/she is interested in dancing this tanda.
Once the leader and follower gesture that they acknowledge each other’s gaze, the follower should remain sitting to avoid an awkward mix up! The leader then escorts the follower to the dance floor.
It’s super satisfying to have a successful cabeceo/ mirada from across the room! Another reason why I love cabeceo is because it gives the follower a way to decline a leader without out having to verbally reject them. If a follower doesn’t return the gaze once, that doesn’t mean no forever, it may be that she is looking for someone else in particular to dance that tanda with, or honestly, she is just thinking about something else entirely. 😅
Cabeceo may be strange at first, but it is definitely an appreciated tradition!

🕵🏻♀️ CONFIDENTIAL FILE 001: MILONGA HYGIENE
Declassified for beginners, appreciated by everyone.
Tango is a close-contact world. Closer than most people realize before their first embrace. And while we spend years perfecting our technique, there’s a whole category of “unspoken essentials” that rarely make it into the syllabus.
That’s what File 001 is for.
Inside this report, we cover the basics that keep the milonga comfortable, elegant, and enjoyable for everyone: managing sweat with grace, keeping your breath fresh inside the embrace, and approaching personal hygiene as a small but meaningful act of courtesy.
Nothing dramatic. Nothing judgmental. Just the things every dancer wishes someone had whispered to them in their first month.
Because confidence grows faster when you feel clean, prepared, and at ease in your own skin.

Until the next tanda,

DECEMBER TANGO INS & OUTS
I have never been afraid of wearing what makes me happy- even if it isn’t “traditional” tango wear. I think you’re most beautiful when you feel beautiful, so don’t be afraid to wear what you want!
Something else I’m learning is the importance of resting after an amazing tanda. Sometimes I get swept straight into the next one because the DJ plays yet another set that’s impossible to resist… but giving your mind and body a moment to process the magic you just experienced is a lovely way of slowing down.
I want to remember that a good night isn’t always the night I danced the most- it’s often the night I talked, laughed, and connected with my friends. FOMO is very real in tango, and I’ve definitely stayed longer than I should, especially when I’m tired. I’m getting better at leaving as soon as I feel that first hint of fatigue.
And finally, let’s never subject ourselves to wearing something that looks good but feels terrible. Because let’s face it- if you’re uncomfortable, you’ll spend the whole night dreaming about taking that itchy garment off instead of being present with your partner.

Let’s talk about perfectionism for a second... 🙋🏻♀️ I’ve definitely struggled with it.
We’ve all heard ‘practice makes perfect,’ but here’s the thing—perfection is an impossible goal. If we make it our focus, every mistake we make can feel like failure, and that’s a lot of pressure! 😬
Instead of aiming for perfection, let’s shift our mindset to excellence. 💫
Excellence means mastering your craft while giving yourself permission to mess up along the way. Practice makes progress, and mistakes? They’re just opportunities to learn how to get better. We will never be “perfect” 10% of the time, so letting this go can lift a big weight off of our shoulders.
For me, excellence in tango looks like improving my strength to be able to support not just myself but my partner, having better solo technique so my lines look better, stretching to be able to create new shapes, and dancing with a wide caring leaders and being exposed to many styles so that I become a better improvisational dancer, aware of more options!
So, let’s embrace the journey, flaws and all. Because at the end of the day, it’s about growing, learning, and enjoying the ride!
